Does anyone else feel like new skincare ingredients appear out of nowhere? One moment, you're scrolling through your Insta feed seeing the same ol' same ol', the next a product - or in this case an ingredient within a product - keeps jumping out at you, proclaiming to be the one thing you've been seeking that will make all your skincare dreams come true. In this case... cica.

From Instagarm to YouTube, I've bee seeing cica skincare popping up on the daily, so naturally I needed to know more. So what is cica, and why do we need to seek it out? Read on...

What is cica?

Cica, also known as centella asiatac, is a herb that's found in tropical regions such as Africa and Asia.

It can be used in cooking, and for centuries it has been used in traditional Chinese, and Ayurvedic medicine.

What's cica known for in the beauty world?

More like, what's it not known for? Cica features anti-inflammatory properies, is said to help boost collagen production, while also hydrating and nourishing skin.

With all those benefits, no wonder it's a skincare superstar. The anti-inflammatory properties make it perfect for calming irritated skin, while helping to soothe inflammation and redness in skin that experiences acne, rosacea and/or eczema. Meanwhile, as a collagen booster, it works to improve the overall appearance of skin, while reducing the looks of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also help reduce the look of scarring, while working to speed up wound healing, due to it promoting cell turnover and collagen production. Finally, Cica's ability to nourish the skin works to strengthen the skin barrier, while helping it to retain moisture.

What skincare can I find it in?

Cica can be found in all sorts of skincare, from masks to moisturisers, serums to ampoules. It can also be found in cleansers, but due to a cleanser only being on the skin for a small amount of time, it's unlikely you'd get the greatest benefits from using one that features cica.

Do I really need it?

Is cica skincare truly a cure all? While it's suitable for most people, some do experience irritation. So if you're going to try cica skincare, do a patch test first.

Other than that, cica seems like a ingredient that can truly enhance your skincare routine, it's certainly one I'm keen to investigate further!

So, my beauties, have you tried cica skincare before? What did you think of it? Or is cica skincare something you're now keen to seek out? Get chatting below!

I have heard of it before on Asian skincare sites and I'm quite intrigued by it especially since I suffer with rosecea prone skin.

Interesting, I haven’t tried it but have definitely noticed a bit of buzz around it in skincare recently.

Never heard of Cica until now. Looks like it may be an ingredient in mid to high end products. Still a bit of my price range but maybe one day I'll try it.

Never heard of it before so thanks for sharing. Just hoping it becomes affordable as I know Elizabeth Arden products are expensive & not heard of the other 2 brands.. Will you be doing a trial for these?
