Do you buy hand-made?

I don't know about you, but I can't resist a great craft market.  Hand made yummies, hand made homewares, hand made kiddies clothing.  There's something quaint and kitsch about taking home something that will, in all certainty be unique.  I mean, no matter how hard you try to reproduce the same thing exactly, unless you're in a factory, every creation will be slightly different!

But what about handmade beauty products?  Do we hold them with the same regard we do other homemade items?

What people seem to love about handmade products are that they are made with care and attention.  When you think handmade beauty, chances are you're thinking natural and simple - the way products used to be back in the old days right?  No preservatives, no unnecessary extra ingredients, just fresh products that work.

We're putting NZ Scrub a Dub Dub to the test - in the gorgeous flavour CandyFloss.  This scrub is handmade using a blend of coconut, olive, avocado, essential oils and sugars. You'll smell like strawberry and French vanilla after using this!  Scrub a Dub Dub recommend the best way to use this sugar scrub is before turning the shower - scrub your body gently and then rinse.  You will successfully remove excess dead skin and clean out blocked pores without leaving the skin feeling irritated. The natural soothing natures of the oil combined with the grainy, exfoliating sugars blend perfectly and leave your skin with an even color, cleared pores and a soft texture.

I've tried making lemon and sugar scrubs before and that turned out super well, so I adore diy scrubs. I usually don't go out to buy scrubs from shops but I've bought some from markets etc or from those stalls that have cute little jars of them.

First of all- how cute does that packaging look! I looove handmade products :) Recently I visited this cute as 'soap factory' in samoa which was literally in a couples garage at their house and it was just gorgeous! We got a little tour of their two room factory where all the products were handmade- and even got a little demo on how the soap was mixed and poured and then set and stored before labelling, the mans wife then took us to their little shop in the garden and talked us through the range of products ! All of us ended up buying something, I got two soaps and a bottle of coconut oil- so fab! I can't wait to go back and stock up when I'm next there. I also loooove lush products too. Theres something so inviting about home made products, knowing where they come from and that they are not full of nasty chemicals! This body scrub sounds like it will smell amazing and do amazing things for the skin :) Loving seeing all these new trials and products pop up!

Oh yes, I think most of the products I use are pretty much handmade brands especially in the bathroom I have Lush soaps and massage bars and skincare, Sorbet bars, Bossy bath and skincare and Temple Tonic body oils. Oasis another favorite of mine is pretty much handmade except on a larger scale than when they started because they're such a fantastic brand. I love handmade in that it's usually made with natural ingredients fresh, with lots of love and plus the added bonus of supporting a small business as opposed to big companies overseas. Oh and I find that customer service is excellent with smaller businesses since they value them more and want repeat customers and recommendations.

I enjoy buying hand made products from local markets. So far I've purchased oils, creams and soaps. I would like to try more out.

I try to! I think homemade is best and you know there will be little to no nasties in the product, whereas if you buy from a big wig you never know exactly what's in their products - well I never do anyway. And I love me some candy floss - Should've picked some up in the grocery shop :\

I prefer to buy handmade soaps, body scrubs and bath salts and it makes me feel good to know that my hard earned cash is going to someone who has taken the time, effort and love to make a gorgeous product to help make me feel pampered. I would love to try these!

Oh I love a good scrub! I really like the look of these. I think I've bought some nice homemade soaps before but I think that is about it. It has been a while since I have been to a craft fair or anywhere I would find homemade goodies.
