Lush Baked Alaska Soap Review

Citrus surprise!

When the weather outside is frightful, lathering up with Baked Alaska is delightful! Made to look like a giant snowball, this zesty soap reveals it true colors when sliced. A fresh and uplifting blend of organic lemon myrtle, grapefruit and stress-relieving ylang ylang oil make for a sweet and refreshing blast from head to toe.

pick me up

When I saw this for the first time on the lush website the bright colours caught my eye. The bright green, bright yellow and bright blue were screaming buy me, BUY ME through the computer screen. I love bright colours they can turn a dull, gloomy day into a happy, dance your socks off kinda day.

So when this arrived I was so excited to get it out of its carefully wrapped cellophane. I looked in awe the bright colours with a white top and it gets me thinking.. how do they make this? Anyway the citrus burst hits me as soon as I take it to my nose for a quick sniff. If the bright colours don’t brighten your day im sure the citrus kick will.

I test it in the shower and the whole bathroom came to life, I think I could even see a rouge spider dancing away in the corner of the bathroom. This soap along with most other lush soaps doesn’t dry my skin out after I have washed, instead its left feeling soft and ready for moisturizer. The scent lingers on my skin for a good hour if I don’t moisturize straight away. I love this soap for a pick me up and I even like it has a hand soap to give me a bit of a pick me up through the day.

Smells nice but no bubbles!

I am a soap fanatic. I love soap. Soap is love, soap is life! So when I saw this colorful little delight I had to have it, and luckily for me there was a huge chunk of it in one of the gift boxes I bought around Christmas time!

The smell of this is a lovely strong citrus scent and I really enjoy it. It's a delightful wake up smell that really gets the senses moving. The colors also add to the enjoyment of the smell, and well, to me that's Christmas. It's not necessarily a Christmas smell, being citrus, but bright colors and smells definitely is Christmassy!

I only use Lush soaps for hand soap as I really dislike the squeaky feeling on my skin that soap usually leaves. The first few uses it lathers really well but then after a while it stops any kind of lather, but the smell is still there. Pretty as this is, I wouldnt repurchase!

Family Favourite

We all LOVE this soap. It's our Lush no 1 product. Devastatingly it is seasonal, but I stock up and it sometimes randomly is available at other times of year so I stock up even more.

In its natural state it's a big green/blue/yellow/red dome with golf ball size ( never played golf so it's a guesstimate) balls of colour through out. It's cut to size by lush staff to purchase.

The super strong citrus scent fills the shower and is truly uplifting. Being unisex in colour and scent - my husband LOVES it and it cleans his stinky man body well. Can't say I'm a fan of the flouro yellow that pools underneath it and down the side of the shower but that is typical of all lush soaps (the soggyness not the flouro!).

I wish they would make a body wash for of this one.

I recommend you try this one- and I hardly ever recommend anything to anyone even if I like it (I prefer people to make their own informed decision) but with Baked Alaska you really need to try it.

Too drying

From my reviews you can gather that Lush is my life so I have to have all the purdy things in my ever growing collection. Baked Alaska caught my eye straight away because, well it's absolutely gorgeous and it has citrus aromas. Citrus smells are my life and so are purdy things. I had to have it so I made it happen.

I used this in the shower and oh the citrus smell that filled my nostrils was heavenly. It foams up quite alot which is what I look for in a soap. Blubbles are what makes my mind satisfied in to knowing that I am clean. The problem I have with this soap, as I do with most Lush soaps is it makes my skin squeaky. It means that I have to thoroughly moisturise with a very thick and heavy body lotion to try and keep my skin from drying out.

I now tend to use it as hand soap which works perfectly for me. I still get to enjoy the wonderful citrus scent but don't have my entire body drying out from using it. My son loves how colourful it is and enjoys using it too but it's no good for his eczema seeing it has citrus in it. It is known that citrus aggravates eczema. So for now it remains hand soap and also a part of my jar of pretty Lush soaps.

Tips: Moisturise thoroughly afterwards

Ooooo that's interesting! Maybe I will get my son to use Lush soaps instead of liquid soaps. Thanks for the tip

No I haven't tried that one either. I do have the Baked Alaska in my stash though. Best thing I did for my hands was to stop using liquid soaps. Still have to use plenty of hand cream though.

Oh wow really? Have you used the Bohemian soap from Lush? That too has citrus and I would be interested to know if it helped.

I only use Lush soaps as hand soaps. They've actually gotten rid of my eczema but I haven't used this one yet.

Yes Please

First off, this soap is pretty. It's got lovely vibrant colours on the little piece you buy and looks awesome as the big wheel in the shop. It certainly caught my eye.

I believe it was part of the Christmas range which I found interesting given its not really a seasonal soap. Sure it looks bright and festive, but not specifically Christmas festive. However due to several trips to Lush during their month long boxing day sale I've only just started using this one, so hopefully that hasn't had any effect on the scent or anything but I don't think so since the best before date is still months away.

As a soap it has a strong citrus scent, but different to the citrus scent that sexy peel or bohemian have. But perhaps its just the blue base telling my brain it is different.

Using it in the shower, my shower quickly smelled delicious but the smell sadly didn't linger.

And I would recommend this soap, its a lovely smell and both genders can use it.

Obsessed with the Citrus Hit but hate how it feels

This is the third product I have reviewed today that is a citrusy product.. I don't know what it is but I love when my bath and beauty product smell like citrus, its just so fresh and zingy!

This soap is part of Lush's Christmas range, and it might even be part of their mid-year Christmas range as well, but I can't be 100% sure.

This soap is so pretty. It a cloudy sea blue colour and has colourful spheres spread throughout the soap and it is simply stunning.

It has a beautiful citrus scent to it, and I actually stored this in my wardrobe for awhile before I used it and it scented the entire wardrobe and left my clothes smelling amazing. When this soap is being used, I find the smell lingers in the shower/bathroom for about 90 minutes after, but it doesn't really linger on the skin all the much.

I love how the soap smells, but not how it feels. It seem to clean my skin well.. but maybe it cleans it a little too well because it leaves my skin with almost a 'squeaky clean' feeling.

I like this soap because of the smell, but i think I'll just stick to using the sexy peel soap which has the same citrus smell, but leaves my skin feeling a bit more hydrated.

Grippy, grabby, and unexpected

I am not sure what my expectations were, but mild fruity lemon-y (Solid Whoosh jelly) type scent was not top of that list. It reminded me of a window cleaning spray I used to buy.

The bar of soap I have is mostly oceanic blue with circles of opaque purple and green/blue, it looks pretty and colourful, and a larger piece would be even more so.

It lathers well although it didn't seem to clean very well (pen ink on skin faded but still visible even after normal method of removal), yet my skin was left feeling grippy and grabby... not soft or hydrated like I would like. I didn't like using my shower pouf with it either at it didn't lather much more with it, instead a face cloth worked better.

The scent lingered for a short while after my shower but that's fine as I wasn't a fan of it to want it to last. It would be a nice morning shower soap, a wake up kind of scent, rather than a relax and unwind one.

I personally wouldn't repurchase for myself but I might as a gift for a friend who likes citrus scents.

Intense!

I picked this up in the post-Xmas sale simply because it was cheap and I hadn't tried it. I got a fairly large chunk.

I don't dislike this at all but it's definitely not a new Lush fave. The latest incarnation of this soap is iridescent green and yellow, and it's very in your face, plus it leaves a wee lemon and lime trail down from my soap dish that's not great.

Like all Lush soaps the lather is lovely and it cleans my hands without drying - I only use soap on my hands, so unsure what it would be like on my body.

The scent is another in your face one - very sharply citrus. It's actually quite refreshing in the morning, but isn't one I'd say I love at all.

Overall, I'm happy to use this and I'd be happy to use it again were I given it, but I probably won't seek it out and repurchase it (and not just because I currently have about 94 other soaps to pan!)

Tips: As always with Lush, go in and ask for a sliver to take home to try before you get too carried away

Middle of the road for me

Lets open with: I love Lush. I also love citrus. So when I was given a chunk of the Baked Alaska soap for Christmas I was pretty pleased.

This soap smells like sexy peel but not as intense and also it's missing all those good peel bits and pieces to help exfoliate. The colours are very striking, being mainly blue & green with pops of other colours throughout - definitely an eye catcher.

However, in use I found the Baked Alaska less appealing. Though it did lather it wasn't particularly bubbly, it wasn't hydrating at all or good at exfoliating, and once out of the shower it made my skin feel on the dry side. I did have a nice smell to my skin after the shower and it did make the experience of showering more enjoyable just by having Lush soap...but I'd not buy it again. There are many other Lush soaps I prefer.
