Loreal Casting Creme Gloss - Chestnut Brown

Package is average, although I did appreciate how easy it was to squeeze the content of the colouring tube into the main bottle for mixing. The fact that it was plastic instead of a semi-metal or foil, it was easier to squeeze without force. Being a creme definitely made the whole process less messy. The consistency was great as it was easy to mix, spread evenly, and massage into head without worrying about drips. The smell of the colouring mixture was subtle which is a plus for me. I have always hated the strong smell of ammonia that seemed to linger even after washing and conditioner. The conditioner smells good too although can be a bit overpowering. I am not sure if it was just me havent done home colouring for a long time, but I have noticed the size/content of the conditioner have increased. I was able to use the conditioner for 5 days!

I definitely admired the effect of the conditioner on my hair. It had definitely given it the "super glossy shine". My hair felt soft straight after use.

Now the only negative thing I found about this product, it didnt give me the colour it says it would even after almost two weeks. I have dark brown/black hair and I still can't see any colour change. Maybe it just need few more washes or I have the wrong base colour to begin with? who knows! Either way, it gave my already dark hair that glossy shine.

Tips: chestnut brown would be better use by someone with lighter natural coloured hair who wants to go a little dark.

Back to Black

I was lucky enough to get placed on a trial team to review this product, and was so excited. I haven’t dyed my hair is so long its hard to remember when I last did it, but I chose the colour 100 Licorice, because I have some ginger parts of my hair from D.I.Y ombre attempts, and I wanted my hair to go back to black.

I quite like the design of the box, it’s simple but effective and give you all the details you need to know. I myself did not find using the box as a stand for the applicator bottle useful, but I’m sure for people other people would find it useful. I actually found the labelling on the applicator, developer and conditioner useless seeing as the product was labelled in 4 other languages, with English being the 5th on the list. This might sound like a small thing, but because I asked my mum to help me out with the back of my hair, I saw how people who were not that experienced with hair dye may get confused. I think it would be clever for L’Oreal to prioritise the English language label. The developer crème is a thin liquid which is white and slightly transparent (because it’s quite thin) and this mixed together easily with the cream colorant, and actually smelt quite pleasant compared to other hair dyes I have used, and application was a breeze. I was surprise that there was actually enough dye for a decent coverage over all my hair, and the applicator tip made it very easy to control how much product was getting released. The conditioner is white and quite thick, and I really like the smell of it. It smells kind of fresh, but I can’t put my finger on the actual scent.

Anyway, the results. After dying and conditioning my hair, well it looked pretty damn good. The ombre bits of my hair were completely concealed, which is amazing because I have wanted to cover those parts of my hair for ages. Additionally because I used this all over my hair, my hair got a boost, and had this healthy shine to it. After 10 or so washes, that healthy shine disappeared, and after about 15 washes I can see the hint of a ginger in the sunlight, but inside my hair still looks completely black so that’s good. So this is a good product, but would I use it again? Probably not as I would go permanent next time to cover those ginger spots once and for all. Additionally since I have dark hair, its hard to use any other colours that are available. However, I do think this would be an amazing product for those who want to freshen up their colour. Additionally, I like how the dye only needed to be left on hair for 20 minutes, and that it had no ammonia.

Not so fussed really

I'm a prolific hair dyer from the day my mother let me dye my hair and I have always used a permanent colour - mainly because I have a lot of hair and wash out colour seems like such a waste of time. I have to say after using this product - I am still of the same opinion. The truth is I am lazy and I like nothing better than to sit in the salon while someone fusses over my hair. Having said that everything L'Oreal says is true and it does live up to its promises but while I loved the colour it didn't last very long and probably because I do wash my hair everyday. In this case I think it is a great product but just not my bag.

Easy to use

Easy to use, gentle on scalp. It leaves a lovely smell however it hardly changed my hair colour as it said. Not gonna use it again as no point in putting any chemical for no reason.

Light Brown 600 Casting Creme

I used Loreal Casting Creme Gloss Light Brown 600. It was relatively simple to apply as I am quite used to at-home hair dying. I applied to the roots first and left my ends until last as instructed. The smell of the Casting Creme was plesent and didn't make my eyes water or my nostrils burn like some of the permanent hair dyes do. The Casting Creme felt comfortable on my hair and scalp, which is usually quite sensitive, so that was a bonus! Upon washing my hair out in the shower, my hair was left feeling slightly dry but certainly not matted and straw-like as I have experienced with other hair dyes. I then used the provided conditioner which was thick and luxurious with a lovely scent, it de-tangled and smoothed my hair and gave it quite a glossy shine. After blow drying my hair and examining the colour, It had left my hair with a slight brassy tint to my roots where the light hit. Since the application I have washed my hair 4 times and it has faded significantly. All in all though, I am impressed. I would not however pay the RRP $19.99 for a temporary colour but I would purchase again if it was on special.

Tips: Apply petroleum jelly to the skin around hair line. Use an old towel around your shoulders. Comb dye through with a wide tooth comb to ensure even distribution. Keep a timer handy. Try and avoid washing your hair any more often than necessary so you get longer lasting results.

Average

Just gonna start off with my initial first impression, the box was flimsy and fell apart easily. But the products were easy to mix, didn't take me long to shake the bottle for the products to mix. Upon application, the smell is not so strong which is good, however the consistency was runny and was going everywhere, all over my hands and face. The colour showed up pretty quickly but i still left it on for bout 30-45 mins. While washing, it took ages to run the colour down til the water becomes clear.

This didn't make my hair any glossier as it claims, two days later, i washed my hair again and the dye was still running. Its been a week or more since my initial application and i find the colour staying on pretty well. I probably won't purchase this in the near future, as its pretty average for a $20 box dye

Tips: Rinse your hair GENTLY not roughly as you will remove most of the product

Disappointed

I used the Amber colour on my ginger hair and unfortunately it went brown.. like a reddy brown. Not the colour on the box at all. I am pretty disappointed to be quite honest :( it took me a long time to get the black out of my hair and to a beautiful ginger. I really regret doing the trial.

Apart from the colour I liked the application of the dye, it went on very easily and made my hair very soft. There is a good amount of dye in the bottle and the smell isn't offensive.

Not For Me

I had high expectations for this and I was disappointed. The colour used (Dark Blonde) came out darker than I expected and compared to other brands I have used previously but the colour has begun to fade. It did leave my hair soft and shiny which was a positive. Instructions were easy to follow and application was very straight forward with no fuss to clean up afterwards
