plain weird

weird because i can't decide if i like it or not. i think i do but then other times i wonder.

my hair isn't an oil slick, so this mask isn't really targeted for me but it was on sale and i couldn't resist buying. the big bright REDUCED sticker on the label pulled me in. i'm a sucker for that sticker.

i waited until i needed to shampoo again, which wasn't a long wait. my hair was still passable as normal but i felt like i'd been plunged into BPs great oil spill blunder like all the poor wildlife had been. instructions are simple, apply to the scalp and let sit. easier said than done with unicorn hair.

like most masks, i knew this would wash out my color. i was NOT wrong. where this touched my bright hair, the color had all but faded into a light pastel, which was annoying as i hadn't long since redyed. it was also a bit of a pain to maneuver into hair because of my colorful predicament, but i managed to get the worst affected.

rinsed out, shampooed out and conditioned, my hair felt pretty awesome. the next time i tried it i didnt bother shampooing it out, i just put conditioner straight over. and you know, it worked even better. this was probably my preferred method of use, even if it did fade my hair slightly.

this is a weird but kinda good product. i dont think id purchase again as i wasnt a huge fan of the smell (herbally, medicinal... weird) but it did work. so. i guess i liked it!

Clay hair mask

I really liked the clay mask packaging, I think the teal colour is very nice. I also like how it comes in a tub instead of tube. I always prefer face and hair masks in a tub as I find it is easier to get out and use up all of the product.

The clay mask is a creamy and thick textured item, like a thick body moisturiser. Other clay based products I have tried do not have a very nice scent to them but this one was very nicely scented and smells very fresh.

This mask is to be used before shampooing your hair, it says to cover your entire scalp at the roots with this mask then leave for 5 minutes before rinsing off in the shower then follow up with the shampoo. It is meant to absorb excess oils and dirt in your hair to help make it fresher.

I found this product quite difficult to apply as I am not use to using hair masks. I tried to apply it all over the scalp but got quite messy. It does rinse out very easy in the shower, I was surprised how quickly it did rinse out and was expecting it to take a lot longer to rinse out. It was hard to tell if this improved my hair and whether on its own it really makes a huge difference to my hair if I didn’t use the other items with it.

Tips: The instructions are on the lid underneath label and make sure to be wearing something that you can easily take off so you don't get the mask everywhere!

Clay range mask

I was so excited to try this!!! Love the packaging and decent sized pot of clay mask. It smells great and was easy to apply. I think this product did help illiminate the oilyness on my scalp! I used this product along side the other clay products and they work well together. It does feel cold to apply to the head as you apply to dry hair, didn't worry me too much though. I'm not sure I'd especially go out and purchase this product unless it was on sale or came free with one of the other products as I think it would get a little costly to buy as well as they other products. I do think it would last about the same as the shampoo and shampoo as you apply to all of the roots.

Tips: Best used along side the other clay range

Elvive Extraordinary clay

I was so excited to be receiving this product to try. My hair will look nice the day I wash it but by the next day it looks greasy and dirty. I love the colour of this product and that it comes in a tub. First impressions when opening it were that it had a subtle but pleasent smell and looked like a body butter. The first time I used this was on a work morning as I was conscious of the time limit to review and wanted to get a couple of uses in in the week. So I was a bit rushed and didn't expect it to take so long to apply. you do need to allow a bit of time for this, it is fiddly and messy to apply. I had trouble getting coverage all over my scalp so just done as much as I could. I was quite surprised how easy it was to wash out though, expecting it to take forever. I followed up with the shampoo and conditioner and awaited miracles. The next day I did notice my hair looked a little better than usual but did expect a bit more to be honest. Day three my hair looked pretty much the same as it usually does and I felt it needed a wash again. I used it again on Saturday when I had more time to do it properly and it was a bit easier when not rushing. Today it looks OK so I'm hoping by tomorrow it will still look good. Overall I think this is nice to use once a week to give my hair a boost and a treat but so far I don't think it's done wonders for the oiliness.

Tips: Make sure you have the time free to use this product properly. I think it could be great for some people so if you have oily hair for this great price it's definitely worth giving it a try.

Not for me...

I always feel bad when I place a bad review or even a slightly below average review. I have tried this product and I keep trying to see if it will get better but for my hair it just didnt do anything for me. I have natural hair on the top and bleach blionde ends.... think ombre but really grown out. I get oily roots when it is close to wash day and I wash my hair twice a week.

This was almost impossible for me to get my head around (user error people) because it looks like a treatment tub and it is a pre shampoo! The first time I got this order all wrong despite reading the instructions first. As soon as I got into the shower my brain took over and was like "treatment goes last" hahaha - epic fail!

Once I got it right......It has a pleasant clean smell (I am more of a OMG fruit or OMG sweet tasty wonder smell fan myself). I believe this product is the reason I did not need my two shampoos as per usual. I was able to get away with one shampoo.

But like the shampoo and conditioner left my hair feeling bla or heavier? I can not pin point which of these made my hair feel like this, only that the combo ended up with my hair feeling heavier and weird.

It did remove the oil but it left my hair feeling bla. I do not need help feeling bla! By day 3 my hair was oily and gross perhaps more than usual. I think this really didnt agree with my hair type.

I did give it a good try and it did do what it said it would. It just also made my hair heavier and feel weird.

Tips: Read the instructions to avoid user errors like mine ;)

Take it or leave it

L'Oreal Paris ELVIVE Extraordinary Pre-shampoo Clay Mask was part of a BR trial for the entire range, and I was quite excited to try it out. It was a bit hard to find the instructions, would have preferred to read them on the side of the container or the bottom rather than hidden away under the label that you need to peel off to see them. I applied it to my scalp and hated the cold feeling. It was quite hard to apply it on my own. Washing it out was a bit of a mission as well, and it was hard to tell if all of it came out. I did use the shampoo and conditioner afterwards, but cant say that it made my hair feel or look better than without using it. I might use this once a month, but would maybe not buy it again.

Smells nice but not much else

I trialled this product and intitally I was excited, but the novelty quickly wore off. I found this product messy and to be honest I didn't notice too much difference regarding my oily roots. On a positive note it smelt devine and didn't dry out my hair as I was expecting clay to do.

Tips: I feel it's a wasted and ineffective step

L'Oreal Paris ELVIVE Extraordinary Pre-shampoo Cla

I loved the idea of a clay mask for hair, however I wasn’t sure how to apply it so ended up putting it on my roots like I would if I was dyeing my hair (however usually a friend would do this so it felt weird to try doing it myself!). I’d like if it said how often to apply it, or even a rough guide of exactly how much I should be applying. It’s not really practical to use it every time. When I was washing it out, I never actually saw the product being washed out like the instructions said I would - it made me wonder if I was using enough, or getting rid of it all. It made my hair feel super soft after it was washed out, but then the shampoo left a too squeaky clean feeling which was kind of a bummer. Overall, I didn’t really notice it doing anything, or a difference in the days after using it before the other products, compared to going straight to the shampoo. It may have absorbed excess oil and impurities, but I couldn't see or feel any difference unfortunately.

Tips: Tie your hair up before applying the mask to make the process a bit more manageable.

A Detox Pre-Shampoo?

First off, I have never used a clay before so had no idea how much to use, how often to use and whether to apply to dry or wet hair. Fortunately there were instructions however it took me a bit of searching as the writing ‘flip for instructions’ is extremely tiny FYI you can find them on the lid by peeling off the label. Once I opened the lid I was hit with an amazing fresh smelling product. It is a blue/green colour and of a thick putty like texture. I found it ok to apply – you definitely need to take your time to ensure you have full coverage.Time is something I don't have a lot of. The results… My hair felt light and clean straight after use. By the second day my hair was oily again therefore this product did not work for me or maybe I didn't use it right Likes: Love Love Love the fragrance! At less than $7.00 this is really affordable Dislikes The size of the pottle means you would not get many uses. Probably 4 or 5 max. The instructions are pretty vague - There are no guidelines on how often to use the product

L'Oreal Pre-Shampoo Clay Mask - Extraordinary

Extraordinary is a good word to describe this product. As part of the Clay system, this is the first item you would use when you wash your hair. I had certainly never heard of such a product, so was keen to see what it actually did. Luckily for my forty something eyes, instructions on the pot were nice and large. You are instructed to work the clay into the roots of you hair section by section and then leave in for five minutes. Squiggey feeling - quite nice actually. Nice scent. Leave for five minutes then into the shower to rinse out and continue with shampoo and conditioner system. Honestly - I just don't get the point of this step. It is very hard to assess whether it works on it's own merits as you then follow up with shampoo and conditioner. Maybe a better test would be rinsing out and not shampooing to follow and see what the result would be.

Tips: Take your over the head entry clothing off before you apply!
