Simple effective colour touch up

I have grey hair but have coloured my hair for many years. I use this to cover the roots along my parting as needed. It enables me to space out my colours. It is easy to apply, stays put and looks pretty natural. A literal game changer for me

Loreal Magic Touch Dark Brown

I brought this when it first came out and was very disappointed. It turned my scalp brown! When I saw this review come up, I thought I had to try I again. So after I had washed, dried and straightened my hair (arrgghh) I sprayed in on, instead of spraying straight down, which causes your scalp to go brown. I sprayed from the front a bit diagonally across the top of the hair. It worked amazingly. The spray was fine that hairspray and it dried very quickly. I've tried hair crayons and hair mascara and I say Magic Touch is far better. I'm glad I gave it a second chance!

Tips: Don't spray directly down on to the hair, it may cause the scalp to colour

Regrowth Control

L'Oreal Magic Retouch - This product is quick and convenient to use. It can hide a multitude of sins quickly and easily. Been a while since you coloured your hair? Cant get into your hairdresser? Cant afford to dye your hair this week? This product is the one to reach for! A quick few sprays of L'Oreal Magic Retouch and your regrowth is covered and perfectly coloured.

Instantly freshen up your look and tidy up that scraggly regrowth. Its like a quick makeover for your hair when you have let it slide a few weeks on your normal hair colour maintenance. Grey regrowth growing through? A few quick sprays in the right colour tone for your hair and now you are instantly fresher and the greys are blended in.

It is not a permanent colour, once hair is washed the colour is removed. The colour will hold fast until it is shampooed out.

The price point is reasonably inexpensive. For $19.99 per can, its a good back up product to have on hand in your bathroom when your regrowth is getting too noticeable. There are about 25 applications in the can and several colour shades to choose to match your haircolour.

Tips: Apply on dry hair. Style hair as usual, once you have your hair set in place, hold can from about 15-20cms away and spray where your roots are needing covered. Spray lightly, check your coverage and reapply if needed. Let dry. Dont overspray or your hair can look a bit clumpy. Dont spray to close to your scalp.

Take care when using in the bathroom not to get the spray on your clothes or around the bathroom. Wear a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothing just in case you miss your hair.

Great idea but too hard to apply

This product was not for me, which is a pity as something that works between washes to cover my grey would be great. The main reason I didn’t like this product was the application method. It’s in a spray can so it was hard to get precise. I tried different methods of how far away I held it and how long I held the spray nozzle down for but just couldn’t get the precise application I wanted around my face. When I got it on my face I could wipe the excess away but you could still see close up that my scalp had brown spray on it. You also only get once chance to apply it right as when I applied too much while trying to get some greys I missed the first time my hair went kinda stiff and felt rough even after brushing through the hair i’d sprayed it felt stiff. So sorry this product was not for me. It did however survive the wet whether and continued to cover the greys until I washed it out so the product in the can was good just not the delivery method.

Tips: cover the edge of your face with one hand or a tissue and then spray with the other hand, this will help you avoid getting it on your face when covering grey hair near the edges

Great for Covering Greys

I went pretty grey from an early age and have been dyeing my hair ever since. As a Mum, I don't get to dye my hair that often so I tend to rely on products that can give my hair a wee touch up.

This is a great product because it does just that.

It's easy to use, gives great coverage and doesn't smell too chemically.

Make sure you apply from a slight distance so as not to soak your hair too much. This will stop product from seeping into your scalp and running down in case it rains and it hasn't dried.

Its definitely a good product and would purchase it again.

Sorry I wasn't really impressed :(

So my biggest problem is its not really that easy to spray and not end up with a brown scalp and therefore looks fake, and if you try wipe the scalp, you wipe colour off the hair. It makes your hair feel like straw, but thats just a temporary thing, once you wipe, wash, brush, your hair goes back to normal. And last negative is that if you touch your hair a lot like I seem to, it just wipes off. On Greys it does take the edge off them, but they do look less shiny bright. I guess for its cost its ok doing what it said it would do, but not for me sorry.

Tips: Make sure you get the right colour. And not good for people that touch their hair, it wipes/brushes off.

Keep your roots covered up

The L'Oreal Magic Retouch is a handy little can to keep with you for a quick touch up at any time. The cute little blue can is discreet and a great size for your handbag!

I have no idea how it works its "magic" but it almost perfectly matched my hair colour straight away. I started off spraying a fine layer onto my hair first of all to test it out and check I wouldn't have any adverse reaction. All seemed fine and I didn't need too much to achieve the required colour. But my advice would be not to layer it on too thick when you apply it so you can adjust in stages.

I was worried about the spray getting on my clothes but I didn't really have that problem. The spray head is good at keeping it contained. I imagine it would wash out easily if it did get on any clothes.

I didn't have too many greys showing at the time of reviewing so I can't totally vouch for its coverage of greys, but on the evidence of my testing, I saw a natural looking colour that blended well with my existing colour.

Because it is applied so lightly, you can't even see it washing out!

As I'm terrible at letting my hair colour grow out too far before re-doing it, I'm sure this will become a staple in my bag! For lazy, low maintenance gals like me, this will be a lifesaver!

Tips: Start by spraying a very fine layer and add more if needed. This will get you a more natural look. Don't overspray to start with.

'Use in Case of Emergency!'

This Magic Retouch is essentially a long lasting colour hairspray.

I've not used these sort of products much, in fact only once before, many years ago. So in comparison to that, I thought this was an improvement but still not fantastic.

My hair is a bit salt and pepper in colour, I do have to dye it, as I'm not ready to be grey yet! Budget calls for home dye, to cover the grays and regrowth is a pain. It's especially noticeable around the temples, hence it would be useful to have a quick fix to this, without having to put all of my hair through the dying process as often as I do.

My hopes were in this product to save me from that and it is quite good, the colour match/blend was spot on. I used the Auburn shade, which blended well with my natural colour, dark brown and the Auburn/Chestnut colours I dye it and the grey coverage was impressive.

The application wasn't too bad either, with its directional spray. It has a longer more precise nozzle, but I still managed to get some on the top of my ears and a few spots on my forehead, so it's not perfect but it cleaned off quite easily with a damp cloth. You'll want to hold the can relatively close, say 5cms to your hair so as not to get it on your clothes.

I used it to cover the most noticeable areas around my temples and on top of my head and that used up about half the can! Why is the product so small? It felt pretty cold as it went on but didn't take long to dry and then didn't notice it but it did make my hair feel sort of waxy and sort of powdery at the same time? To be honest it made it feel dirty and as someone who loves the feeling of clean hair, I actually couldn't cope with the 'dirty build up' feeling. Also, I do tend to touch my hair (more than I realised actually) and found that the product came off onto my nails and hands more easily than I would like. It did also transfer onto material relatively easily, so you wouldn't want to go to sleep with it on as it'll be all over your pillowcase or rest your head on anyones shoulder! It also dries quite matte looking, so if your hair is naturally quite shiny, it dulls it down quite a bit, which isn't great.

In the shower though I did notice just the water didn't make it run, which is a relief if you were to get caught in the rain you'd be ok! Once I put a a tiny bit of shampoo in, it began to come out very easily, but it took a couple of washes to get it all out.

I also noticed, due to the silicone in it, it's not 'Curly Girl' friendly (which is what I try to be most of the time, as I have curly hair) so it was a bit of a bummer that I had to use shampoo to get it out, thankfully it didn't ruin my curl pattern.

In closing, it is a good product. It covers and blends well and it lasts relatively well. It's what you want in the cupboard for those 'emergency' occasions when you need to look good for a short amount of time but haven't had the chance to sort those roots! Also due to the size and price would say use only in emergencies!!

Tips: Use sparingly and perhaps style your hair first and only spray the bits that can be seen, to make the product last a bit longer (due to the small product size).

L'Oreal Paris Magic Retouch

I was lucky enough to be chosen for this trial, thanks Beauty Review.

Don't those pesky grey hairs just ruin your look? They are so annoying and really stand out, especially if your natural hair colour is dark. My hair suits the colour cool brown perfectly.

To use this spray is super easy but make sure your aim is good.

The instructions will tell you to wash, dry and style your hair and then you spray at where those greys are. Hold the can about 30cm away from your hair and try not to get your ear like I did! Luckily it washed off easily. The colour will be dry in one minute and will last in your hair until you shampoo it out, so you could have a great greyless hair style for a good few days.

I loved the results, not a shiny grey in sight which for me is a real win. They say it can last up to 25 applications so I feel it is great value for money.

L'Oreal Paris Magic Retouch

This product comes in a handy aerosol can and the spray is used to cover the grey hairs from regrowth in between colours. I had the blonde colour and I used it on my hair after a month since I'd had a colour done. The roots were just starting to show. The spray came out a bit a spurt and it took a bit of technique and several tries to get it going correctly on my hair. It does stain if it gets on your face or elsewhere so you need to be careful with applcation. The result was very good, it covered the grey, This is a good product to use if you want to stretch the time in between your colours, I would buy this again.

Tips: Allow sufficient time to have a proper go at using this.
