Olia Brown

I used this for the first time about a week ago now, The actual name of the colour i got slips my mind though. I'm not so sure if I'll buy this again though. It was good not having that harsh smell, the bottle size was generous and it was good having a conditioner I could use multiple times (Think i got 3 uses out of mine). However the colour of my hair dye has faded really quickly, which is slightly disappointed. My hair doesn't feel any softer or different than other brands, if anything - I've noticed my hair being more greasy than normal? It was kind of a product with positives and negatives for me, but on this - the single negative of how short the colour lasted out weighed all the positives. Think it was the first and last time I'll use olia - unless it's on a really good special.

Not great

I've been dying my hair at home for years, and often like to try new dyes, especially ones that are more gentle on my hair (or so they say). And this one just didn't take to my hair at all, the dye didn't last at all, it came out super quickly and the color didn't look good. Definitely wouldn't repurchase.

Wanted something more natural...

I purchased this (bright red) to over dye a previous (patchy) colour attempt. I found the mixing process awkward with the extra bottle and the weird bottle holder hole in the box. I ended up just getting someone else to hold it while I squeezed making it a two person job. The application itself was fine, a bit messy but I managed to cover my whole head with reasonable ease. I didn't use the provided gloves as I have tiny hands so always use my own. The end results were even coverage (which was my goal). The colour was not as vibrant as on the box but I expected that. The after care conditioner was okay, my wet hair became a bit tangled feeling. There was also no red stains on my pillow case which was a bonus. All things considered, I think it did an average job. My hair looks great now (next day) and feels really soft. I am expecting fast fade and will probably go back to a regular non oil dye next time around though.

Dissapointed

I had been wanting to go down a colour shade and this dye said it was possible. It comes in a beautifully packaged box with easy to read instructions. I was very disappointed, only the roots of my hair went lighter. I would possibly buy a darker shade next time.

Fantastic idea

Worked well at first! I loved The idea of using plant based oils is great , however after a week my hair looked dull and lost most of its color.

Tips: Use something else that has a well known back ground.

Longlasting reds, but watch out for hair fall

For the last year I've been going through what I call a red phase, and have used Garnier Olia shade 4.6 (Deep Red) several times. Because it has no ammonia, the smell is not as overpowering as many other box dyes - there's still an odour but you can live with it for as long as it takes for the dye to process. The consistency of the product is quite thin and runny, so watch out that it doesn't drip down your neck! Also the applicator bottle is supplied empty and you have to pour both the developer and the colourant into it, which is a little unusual and possibly increases your chances of spilling it if you're clumsy. Each time I used it it left my hair feeling really dry and matted, and as I rinsed the dye out (which took much longer than usual, maybe due to the runnier consistency) I always had huge handfuls of hair coming out. Afterwards it would feel quite strawlike, but the condition of my hair did recover after using a deep conditioning treatments a couple of times after using the dye. Also, no matter how well I rinsed I would still have dye coming out for 3-4 washes after I'd dyed it. Despite the damage to my hair I kept going back to Olia because the red colour really lasted. Red pigment is notorious for fading really quickly, but this dye lasted longer than other home hair dyes I have tried - it was still looking good 5-6 weeks later, washing my hair every second day. I've gotten over red hair for now so won't be using it again for a while, but next time I hit a red phase I might go back to Olia.

Not quite as bright

Using the product during the colouration process was quite pleasant, and I was happy with the low price I paid for it. It had no ammonia smell, so no vapours in the eyes or nose, which is definitely a plus. It spread well through my hair ( which is medium length) and though the colour was a little less bright than I'd hoped, it was still a nice colour and my hair felt nice and soft and in my opinion, not damaged. The colour however faded quickly, quicker than other reds I have used, and soon needed to be redyed after only a few weeks due to the rather orange colour my hair turned - compared to the tolerable peachy-red colour that I have experienced with other dyes. I would use again if it werent for the quick fade-time, as I prefer to not dye my hair too often.

Tips: I use a comb to spread dye to the lower lengths of my hair to get the product to go further and to spread it evenly

Garnier Olia - Purple

I was looking forward to this trial. I had picked the purple for something out there and different. As I have darker brown hair I was wondering how well it would turn out and I was a bit disappointed. According to the colour shades of how it would work on the side of the box it would work great and be nice and bright, vibrant, stand out etc. and that is not the case. It could be my hair maybe but you can hardly tell I have it in. It more darkened my hair. You can see it under light/sunlight etc. which looks nice so it seems like a part time hair colour. The was true in that there is no smell (ammonia free) which was great as my husband hates the smell so colouring my hair is usually fun lol. I do think it is a great idea, I will probably give it another try maybe with another colour and see how it goes. The first impression just didn't have me screaming from the rooftops.

Tips: Really looks at the current shade of your hair against the colour selection on the side of the box and make yours probably a shade darker.

Smells amazing

This product made my hair look and feel amazing immediately post-application. There was a great gloss and shine, and it was really soft and silky.

The dye doesn't have the harsh ammonia scent that some do (I dye my hair a lot and so can definitely say this with certainty) and Garnier have really thought about making a product that leaves hair in good condition.

However, I felt that the colour didn't last long enough compared to other products in the Garnier range and so would be less inclined to use it again until this is addressed, but for people without the greying issue I have it would be a great product to refresh and change up your hair.

The colour range is certainly diverse enough that everyone can find a colour they are keen on, and the product has real potential - but simply didn't work for me.

Olia - great idea but not for me

I was really excited to try Olia - I'm a longtime Loreal Castings user and liked the concept of more oils and extracts. My hair didn't approve, sadly. The colour wasn't anywhere near as vibrant as promised (all instructions and colour matches were followed!) and it gave me the frizzies after a week or so. Positives - it smells, great, feels great when first done, and would be great if you have light hair/just wanted greys covered.
