I have medium brown hair with 4 levels of lift to about a level 9 blonde. This means it is absolutely crucial that I have a strict regimen of toning to keep my colour from going orange. Not just 'brassy', but ORANGE.
I was told be my hairdresser friend that if a 'blonde' or 'toning' shampoo stains your hands when you use it, then it's an effective product. And wow was I impressed with the high pigment of this Essano shampoo which gave my hands a temporary purple hue! (don't worry, it washes off)
It was still very drying on the hair, which is not great considering the dyeing and bleaching process of going blonde is already highly stressful for anyone's locks. But I was happy enough to tolerate some momentarily straggly strands which can be helped with a deep conditioning treatment IF the toning element of the shampoo was effective.
To be honest, I didn't see a huge improvement in the tone of my blonde once my hair had dried. It's not orange, but my hair hasn't completely corrected to be the ash colour I was hoping for. I feel this could be because the accompanying conditioner was only a faint lilac colour with little pigment.
I will definitely still consider repurchasing though, as the price is very competitive for a shampoo aimed at blondes.
This purple shampoo is something else... As a newbie to the purple shampoo idea I did not know what to expect from this product and its partner conditioner.
My first impression was positive towards the recyclable packaging of the bottle and darkened colour bottle to preserve the quality of the shampoo. I liked the pump for the shampoo and was pleasantly surprised by the very vibrant colour of the shampoo (a bright violet). The smell wasn't too overpowering but could have been better.
To use this product I just assumed it was like a normal shampoo as it gave no direction about how much to use. The instructions did suggest leaving the shampoo in for 2-3 minutes in order to allow the product to do its work. I lathered the shampoo into my scalp and doing the ends of my hair where most of the blonde is. After doing this, I followed up with the Essano Blonde conditioner too.
I found the actual work of the Shampoo in cleaning my hair was effective. I was concerned at one point that the shampoo's colour would stain my hands but it just washed and faded after the shower. When used with the conditioner I definitely felt and saw my colour lift and pop to be brighter!
Tips: Use like a normal shampoo but leave in for a couple of extra minutes to allow the product to do its thang.
