This was the first primer I ever used so I didn't know what to expect. I brought it because it was cheap and I liked how it was colorless so I didn't have to worry about matching it to my skin tone. It's a thick consistency and goes on smoothly, the bottle lasted me a very long time and a little bit goes a long way. I found that it sat nicely on my skin, foundation went on smoothly over and it didn't cause my skin to breakout or get dry. I didn't have to touch up my foundation at all when I was using this, it worked amazing! As it is matte some people may think that it's only good for people with oily skin. However, I have combination skin, but it's mostly dry! And I found it amazing, I used a light moisturizer underneath just in case.

I decided to try the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer as I also have the Stay Matte Pressed Powder.
As a product, it comes in a white tube with purple writing/graphics and a purple lid. The primer inside is white and would be be compared to a moisturiser in terms of look and cosistancy, but had a different feel being matte.
On the skin there was a mattifying effect, nothing huge but it did add a matte tone to the skin. It can sometimes be slightly drying, but I usually have mosituriser underneath anyway which I find prevents this. The formula also is lightweight on the skin and not heavy or greasy.
In terms of its other claims I can't say I really noticed any pore minimising, but I also don't really notice my pores that said. Nor would I say it always lasted 8 hours, but it did definitely increase the longevity of make up, especially with setting products over the foundation. And being matte, it definitely acted as a bit of a shine control.
I think it is a good choice for a cheap product, but I would try other products before I repurchase it.
So after searching for months for a primer that stops my skin becoming oily I found this product and have never looked back! I love to wear this on its own when I work and it stops my skin becoming shiny and with foundation, omg, it just helps your make up stay out all day.
Tips: Would suggest for people with dry skin
I bought this primer at a makeup clearance store, after months of wondering why my makeup wasn't staying put; this product solved those problems for me! Great as a base and on top for main problem areas, this definitely does the job as an everyday primer, however I don't think it would hold up as well if I were to wear it on a night out.
Tips: If you have dry skin, try using a moisturiser before using this primer as I found it didn't help me much in that area.
I had never used a primer up till a few weeks ago, studying beauty therapy opens me up to lots of new products and regimes id never tried, but when i learnt about primer i thought id give it a try. I wear Rimmel foundation so went for their primer also, it feels silky smooth when you apply it and my foundation goes on beautifully every day after using this primer. My skin stays matte all day which i love and my makeup looks beautifully applied everytime, i would not be without this product anymore, i love it.
Tips: If youve never tried it give it a go you, your face and your makeup will be so thankful you did
I'm very new to primers and when I saw this on love my makeup website I for a great price of $11 I added it to my cart.
The tube is a white 30ml tube, a very generous size. Purple writing and a purple screw top lid. Sqeeze it and out comes the product.
The primer is just a bit thicker than moisturizer and you can instantly feel the matte once it is on your fingertips. Glides on well and drys super fast. Reduces the apperence of my pores and doesn't over dry my skin.
Applying my foundation on top of this product j find if I use a sponge and pat it on I get a flawless finish. Using a brush I get a streaky look unfortunately.
I find I can use 3 of my 4 foundations with this product. 1 just doesn't sit well on my face with this primer. With all 3 foundations I wind up with a matte and flawless finish.
It lasts really well, I do find on hot days my makeup doesn't last all day with this primer but if u add a setting spray on top it doesn't move.
This product is worth the price I will continue to use this item but I am also in the market for a new one too
I've given this product a real run for its money - using it over the humid period we've been suffering from lately has been the perfect test.
I haven't used all that many Rimmel products but this one has been OK - not amazing, but OK.
I've got a fairly oily T zone and use double wear foundation.
This product comes in an easy to use plastic tube. Just unscrew the cap and squeeze out the desired amount. Easy as!
I've only been applying to my T zone as the mattifying effect can make my cheeks a little dry looking, not what I want.
It blends into my skin pretty well and make up application afterwards is not affected.
It really doesn't seem to affect the pore size on my skin, but It really helps my nose look less greasy throughout the day, but not for the full 8 hours it claims. If it did, I would absolutely give this product a 5/5. I can get about 6 hours out of this before I have to start blotting :( I really feel like it would perform better during the slightly cooler seasons - this summer has been outrageously humid.
The price is very reasonable - I got mine at the warehouse for 20% off - always seems to come up on sale there. WINNING!
Tips: Great for skin types that aren't REALLY oily or REALLY dry.
I'm an oily skinned person, and am always after mattifying primers and foundations, so I thought I'd give this a go but I wish I hadn't.
The product comes with a generous amount of primer 30mL, this had more product in it than other primers similarly priced in my area. It comes in a pretty white and purple tube with the image of a crown, and it is easy to squeeze the product out. Unfortunately the writing on the packaging is off-centre on mine, making this look a bit cheap. The primer is white and looks a bit like a thin moisturizer. Now I have oily skin, yet I find this really difficult to rub into my skin, it feels like I'm pulling and tugging my skin to apply this.
When applied to my bare face, my skin is mattified and my pores are reduced/dissappear. However, my skin is left feeling incredibly dry. Whilst I do want a matte base, I don't want dry skin as primers are supposed to help foundation to glide on the skin, not make it more difficult to apply.
I have used other mattifying primers in the past, and they make my skin matte, but not incredibly dry so I'm not sure why this one does. I tried this with the L'Oreal Infallible Matte foundation. I found this dried my skin out so much that it was impossible to blend my foundation and my skin was left looking cakey, and it went shiny within an hour (the foundation doesn't do this by itself, so it was the primer). I thought perhaps the product didn't like the foundation so I tried it with a couple of BB Creams from different brands and once again-overly dry skin, impossible to blend BB Cream due to dryness and looking shinier than ever! Perhaps this works with the Stay Matte foundation, but I'm not a fan of primers that only work with one particular product.
This seems to work for others, so perhaps it's just a matter of finding a product that works with it. I wouldn't repurchase this as it did not make my make up stay matte-it made it oilier, and it made my makeup so difficult to apply. I think I'll stick to the more expensive mattifying primers.
This product does make me really matte. Probably a bit too matte in some patches on my face. It sort of accentuated some minor dry patches so I think it is best to really concentrate this on your T zone area.
This product does absolutely nothing for pore minimizing. If anything, I would say my pores look bigger after using it.
I think I might pass this product on to someone with more oily skin. I prefer a more smoothing primer and mattifying with a powder at the end of my routine.
This does exactly what it says it does for me. I have used this every day since I got it, and my eyes no longer have the collection of foundation or eyeliner that I used to get. I have never been game enough to try it over my makeup, but seeing as it works perfectly under it, I am happy to keep using it the way I am. If you are like me, and prefer the matte look, then this is by far the best primer I have found so far for that.
