Bad shatter is bad

I was a big hater of nail shatter polishes to begin with so this was probably written in the stars that I would hate it. I didn't want to hate it though! I wanted (and to be honest expected) OPI to blow my negative shatter thoughts out the window. No luck! 9 times out of 10 I ended up with a blob of nail polish that barely "shattered" it just blobbed :( Maybe there is a knack to this I am missing? But I can easily see why it ends up in the bargain bin in The Warehouse. And still not a bargain.

Tips: Just don't bother, it's not worth it.

Not for me

These were pretty useless. Dont get me wrong, they did give me the shatter effect I was after(the gold over black polish or black over red, GORGEOUS!!) but it wore off my nails pretty quickly even when I used a top coat. They went thick and clumpy in the bottles very quickly so I found they were a huge waste of money

Worth the hype?

I remember how much hype there was around this range, and when I got them I felt quite disappointed.

To begin with I had to make sure that the underneath nail polish colour was bone dry before attempting to apply the Shatter or it would start to pull the nail polish away with it when it started to shatter - not a great look.

I also found that it chipped SO fast, within a couple of hours it had started to chip even with a top coat.. I also thought the brush was too small and you weren't able to coat your whole nail with 1 stroke which would have been more ideal.

The thing that annoyed me the most was how fast they dried up and started to go bad/gluggy. After a couple of uses my black was almost unusable which sucked - especially after paying $25 for it! I've found dupes which work better from the $2 shop... Sorry OPI :S

A positive is that they had a nice selection with a decent range of colours, but I would not repurchase again...

Some good some bad

I have purchased/been gifted a number of shatter OPI's and have to say I am not very impressed with them.

I find that some of them look really tacky and it does take a bit of practice to get the right amount of polish on in order for them to shatter with a nice look to them.

You need just a base covering- too thin and it shatters too much/ you cant see the colour very well. Too much and it hardly shatters and just looks messy.

The other problem I found was that after really short amounts of time the nailpolish went gluggy and unusable in its jar. This was something I found for all my 4 shatter polishes.

Tips: They work but not for a long time, practice on yours or someone elses nails to get the amount of polish right.

Yup, it shatters.

It claims it is a nail polish that give a shattered effect and it does exactly that.

I have have the white, black and gold. The gold is my favourite and it looks great over a coral peach colour for something a bit different. I really didn't end up liking the black or the white.

In terms of lasting - only a few days, just like any other OPI nail polish. OPI doesn't last any longer than any other nail polish I own in my opinion.

The formula is quite thick so you have to be quick at applying or it goes gluggy.

One coat is all you need of the shatter polish. It gives the best effect with one coat - two coats make it separate/shatter really thick lines which doesn't look any good.

I wont be repurchasing any more shatter polishes - I think they have had their day in the sun.

Tips: One coat only! Make sure the underneath polish is completely dry first.

The Warehouse have these super cheap (like $5) so don't bother paying full price - it is not worth full price!

pretty average

Mehhhh... everybody talked about these nail polishes for quite a while but I never really toke interest in them. It is pretty easy to stuff up. Doesn't really appeal to me. It's okay. Doesn't actually shatter a lot, it shatters a small amount as what the product advertises. But yeah it's okay. Not worth the 25 dollars though, you can get them cheaper online and in sales

Tips: Do not apply more than one coat because it doesn't shatter.

Gold Shatter

I got OPI shatter nail polish in Gold as a gift from my MIL. I was happy to receive it as I collect nail polishes and this was my very first shatter collection. The consistency was thin unlike other OPI nail polishes. What I didn't like was it doesn't really match with all nail polishes. I could only make it look good on Red or Blue nail polishes. Same applies to other shatter polish colors, it's hard to pair with other colors. After 3-4 months, the nail polish in the bottle completely dried, it had solidified in to a small ball in the bottle. I was disappointed as I have many OPIs but this particular one was a shocker, even the nail lacquer thinner couldn't come to rescue. Overall I really liked the look of the shatter on my nails, it stands out and gets noticed too.

Tips: Gold shatter nail polish looks good on Red or Blue nail polishes.

Not the best

As a huge fan of OPI i was very excited when they came out with shatter polish. However i am not a huge fan. The product is quite thick and clumpy compared to the usual formula of OPI nail polishes making it harder to apply and spread out. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but quite often with mine, some areas on the nail would not shatter so i ended up with just a random patch of nail polish which didn't look the best. I have tried the black, blue and gold shades. The black looked the best, the gold was the easiest to apply and the blue straight up sucked! It did not shatter at all and the whole bottle dried out after about 2 months with the lid on tight which was strange. I wouldn't repurchase due to the high price. I have tried "cheap" brands of shatter and they are the same quality as this, if not the slightest bit better.

Mixed reviews

This product is okay, I got it in the white and navy. The white one was kinda gluggy and went on like white out. The navy one was smoother but it didn't give a huge crackle effect. Overall it sort of does the job but isn't a fav of mine.

A trend that is now on its way out

This was such a big deal when Katy Perry wore it that everyone I knew just had to have it, and I bought three bottles on sale. I have to say, I was not that impressed. They were hard to use and to get to shatter properly. Too thick an application and it won't shatter at all, too thin and the shatter is so fine that it isn't really visible. After several tries, I could only get the black shatter to work properly - the red shatter and gold shatter were a bit too sheer for the shatter to show up properly. In real life, it doesn't look that great either, it sort of looks like your nails are chipping. It does last a while though. The look is also so trendy that its pretty much on its way out.

Tips: Do your base coat of color a few days before you apply the shatter polish. Your base coat needs to be well and truly dry, otherwise the shatter polish re-liquifies it. Also, do a top coat of clear polish to make the final effect look less like just chipped polish.
