My friend recommended this to me and we used it for a while but eventually gave up on it. I remember the first time I tried it and felt amazed at the intensity of the black color and how easy it was to apply the gel liner.
Because the product is a pot+pen combo, it’s easy to control the amount of gel you’re putting on the eyeliner brush and applying on your eye. The brush itself is thin and light which makes it very easy to go for a winged tip. However, I never got to panning it because I either lose the pen or dry out the gel pot. I even repurchased because I thought I always left the pot open too long. When I bought my last one, I always made sure I turned the pot upside down after I dip in my brush. I kept it fully covered at all times except when I’m dipping in. It still dried out. I would need to use a small spoon to carve out the top layer to get the fresh gel underneath just so I can continue using it. After a week, it would again dry out. It’s overall so hassle to use because the gel itself dries easily and having a separate pen for it makes it hard to carry around. It is also neither smudge proof nor waterproof. It could be because I have oily lids but the color fades by the end of the day.
The Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner is not the most amazing gel liner but it's not bad at all. It's black, it dries to a matte finish and doesn't bleed or smudge but it's not the creamiest or the blackest gel liner I've ever used. I will finish the pot but I don't think I'll repurchase as I'm looking for something a little creamier and blacker.
Tips: I would definitely suggest not to use the angled liner brush that it comes with as it's not really the right shape for creating a crisp line or a winged liner. My suggestion is to saturate both sides of your brush the wipe off the excess and do short strokes as opposed to a one swoop line as it doesn't glide across the eyelid very nicely.
