Not much more than pretty packaging.

I purchased two of the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks after looking for a new, everyday shade and formula. These promised to be non-drying, pigmented and easy to apply, all packaged in a bright, girly tube. I purchased Peony and Nude. Peony wasn't the right pink for me, so I have only worn Nude.

Of course I have to mention the packaging. It’s gorgeous – girly, fun and fabulous whilst remaining sturdy and practical. I know many people don’t like the ‘unhygienic’ furry applicator, but I find that it provides an easy, accurate application. I don’t share my lip products and I don’t suffer from cold sores, so it doesn’t seem unhygienic for me. Compared to a standard lipstick or pencil product, this option does not deteriorate or loose its shape.

The formula is . . .fine. It is more drying than I expected, but I suppose the longevity of the product makes this necessary. When my lips are already a little dry, I can’t stand applying this product. It feels icky and really highlights the dryness of my lips. Although this product doesn’t immediately dry my lips out, I wouldn’t wear it two days in a row. Let that be a warning for those who struggle with dry lips. If my lips are in good condition this product is great. The pigmentation is high and it lasts a solid 4-5 hours. The shade does deepen on my lips after an hour. However the formula and shade isn’t anything special. It doesn’t make me feel fabulous, it does complete my makeup look, and it certainly doesn’t gather compliments from anyone in the street. It is fine, and I will use it, but I won’t be reaching for it on a special occasion or on a day where I need the confidence of Beyonce.

Final verdict: The packaging of this product is typical Too Faced – gorgeous and original. However the product inside is plain and drying. If there was a particular shade that you fell in love with – you may be able to combine it with a lip balm and be happy with the results, but I personally won’t be repurchasing.

Tips: Make sure you want this for more than just pretty packaging.

Melted Ruby

I was very fortunate to have been gifted this from one of my besties which she bought my Sephora while in the States. I received the shade Melted Ruby and it has to be one of the most gorgeous reds I have ever laid eyes on - a rich Christmas red the kind you would see on a beauty lip advert.

There's no denying the packaging is on point; with the shade of the box matching the shade of the tube but neither come close to the shade that's inside. The applicator is ummm quite different to what I would like personally. I'm not a fan of sponge tip applicators for hygienic reasons even if it's just me using it but having said that it feels good against the lips and even though there's no precision to the tip; I still manage to apply it well.

The pigmentation and opacity are incredible - the richness of this Ruby shade really comes through so if you're after "sheer" then keep looking. This is definitely for those who don't mind standing out with the brilliant shade. The longevity of the product is a little 'iffy' for me because the downside below.

Now the downside of this product for me is once applied it never really sets. For me this is not a product that I would hastily put on then rush out the door because there is risk of smearing, getting it on your teeth and bleeding.

I'm not sure how much time anyone has to wait for this to set but as an example 20 minutes is not long enough. I'd like to purchase some myself but so far I'm quite content with this one shade.

Tips: Since I refuse to wait for this to set (if it ever does) I apply one layer then I blot away excess (repeat as required) and then outline my lips with a lip liner (i.e. NYX Plush Red).

Not a fave

I got a mini of these in a gift pack from my wonderful brush Jess. The sneaky snake bought me a mini Too Faced kit of faves for my birthday/Christmas present while she was over in the USA and I'd so grateful for it.

The shade I got is a gorgeous purple, and it's really quite me in a nutshell. I do wish it was more matte, but its still really pretty. It applies through the sponge tip quite easily and I found that it's not messy at all, and it doesn't bleed.

I personally don't notice it lasting longer than an hour, I don't know what the usual time is to know if that's good or not. It also smells pretty good too! I really like this brand, and although I don't wear this often as I'm not a fan of gloss/wet liptsicks, it's still really gorgeous.

Melted Matte

I saw the colour 'Lady Balls' on a non-binary person, and the bright fire-engine red looked amazing on a face with a full beard, so I thought I'd try it!

The colour is so pigmented and intense, there is literally NO room for mistake. The applicator is fine for a nude lippie, but with a colour this strong you really need a brush, and to outline first.

The formulation was ok, goes on quite wet and then dries quickly. But because it's a matte, it dries and DRIES. My lips felt (and looked) very cracked and wrinkled after an hour or so. I tried using a primer pencil underneath which helped immensely. It's definitely long wear - no fading or smudging, even after eating. But I don't think I'll buy another of the same type, I've found better mattes from other brands that aren't as drying and are a lot cheaper.

Tips: Use a primer, brush and liner when applying, esp if it's a strong colour.

Nice colour!

I got the colour Chihuahua which is like a pinky brown colour. It absolutely love the colour it's perfect! The applicator is great but could be better to get a more precise line. However I am really not a fan of the smell. I think this liquified lipstick is meant to smell like chocolate however it just smells bad. I do love the colour however so I try to get past the smell. A few minutes after applying you can't smell it anymore. I find i do have to reapply it a few times throughout the day but it is a great easy handbag product because of its ease of application.

Comfortable

I love Too Faced and was excited to try their Melted Long Wear Lipstick - yes they are long wear and i love the applicator! The colours are amazing but I find that this packaging makes them hard to store in my collection. And personally they are a little too expensive for my taste, maybe if they were $25NZD? The ones I have were purchased from their Christmas collection when they end up doing their bundles.

Tips: Line your lips first!

Pretty good!

These are pretty good lipstain lipsticks. They do however require some additional work that others don’t so they are higher maintanence. The colours are beautiful and go on great at first. You definitely need to line your lips first because they go on really wet and can bleed a little at first. Then they dry and this is where the formulation could be a bit better. With this, you HAVE to have just exfoliated your lips or else it’s going to look like a cracked wonderland on your lips. Even after exfoliating, a few hours in the cracks will come anyways. So it isn’t one for a really long day wear. Maybe for photos or for a quick event or lunch/dinner date or something like that.

Nice formula and applicator

I have this in "Melted Nude". I don't know why it's described as glossy because it appears matte on my lips.

The applicator feels nice and applies an even coating to my lips. I'm able to get a sharp lip line with this. The formula is long lasting, highly pigmented and not drying, however it is not transfer proof. It has a subtle sweet scent.

I would love to try the other colours.

Tips: Apply straight from the tube, no need for brushes or lip liners.

Too faced violet

I have had the good faced violet for a few months now and I love the staying powder of these lipsticks! The first time I wore mine was a night out clubbing, I didn't have to reapply and it did not bleed out. It's so hard to find a good lipstick that stays on and looks good. These are worth the price. Though I find it hard to get a defined line with the applicator so I line my lips first then use a lip brush

Unique application for awesome colours

I have these in the original and the new metallic versions.

Currently owned shades: Melted Villain, Melted Chihuahua, Metallic Melted Violet and Metallic Melted Jelly.

These cute lip products come in a tube container made out of flexible yet strong plastic with a metallic golden lid, the outer body of the tube is the colour of the product or what the inside should look like on your lips, this however varies slightly with each person. Inside the nib point of the tub has a foamy cushion tip that has 5-6 little holes in the centre, squeeze the tube and the liquid lipstick seeps up through these holes onto the application pad for you to smooth onto your lips. Application is easy with this foam pad you simply swipe it back and forth and the creamy liquid inside evenly applies to your lips. There has been no feathering or drying effects from this formula as it doesn't dry matte like some liquid lipsticks but stays in a soft sheen state, especially the metallic versions which has a soft metal effect that looks wet on the lips but doesn't move around on your lips much at all.

Wearing these colours is very comfortable as they don't rub off quickly but keep an almost buttery softness to your lips. lasting a good 3-4 hours before touch up is needed unless you eat or drink which is reasonable for this type of lipstick. There is no stickiness or drying from these lipsticks and I have been really impressed by just how they look as packaged as well as on my lips.

Quick recap of shades owned:

Villain - Intense plum purple that sits on the lips with a hint of deep blue to it, this is the most firmest liquid out of all owned but still it is not hard to apply and remains sheen and buttery on the lips.

Chihuahua - A nice beige nude colour that is slightly on the orange side, or so it appears on my fair skin

Metallic Jelly - A soft purple with a silver metallic effect that keeps a wet look on the lips without the sticky effect of a gloss

Metallic Violet - Appears as a light pink shade rather than violet coloured with a silver metallic effect that gives that wet look without gloss effect. This is my least favourite of the 4 owned due to the pink shade not being that complimentary to my skin tone.
