Lip stain that goes on liquid and dries completely matte. Touch-proof, long-wearing, and utterly addictive!

LIMECRIME Velvetine Review

So I LOVE liquid to matte lipsticks! They are my absolute fave, my make up kit has about 30+ of them. These are fantastic for people who are a little more "out there" and quite comfortable with themselves as the colours are quite bold and make a statement, but on the other hand there are a few neutral colours too which is nice. The applicator is nice I always achieve a perfect lip line without using a liner. They are super long lasting so you don't have to worry about re applying all the time! They smell amazing also. The only Problem with these is that they are quite drying! That would be the only down fall for me personally.

Tips: Would definitely use a lipscrub or lip balm before using these as tjese can be quite dry, also don't over apply product or it will crack and won't look nice!

I'm Feelin'... Wicked

I had heard a lot of things about Lime Crime, and had ventured onto sites that sold it several times. Then all the nonsense with the company went down and I had no interest in giving them my money anymore. Luckily I have awesome friends, and one gifted me the shade Wicked. I didn't realize until I owned this that I can rock a red lip. Preferably dark, but I rock it. And well. So I was pretty excited to try this! It comes in a frosted plastic tube with a red lid covered in flowers, and it's pretty girly. It has a doe foot applicator which is quite small and easy to use.

The color, daannnngg. It's a glorious dark red with possibly a blue undertone - which is perfect for me as I think it compliments my skin tone. The formula is quite thick as well, one coat is enough but I almost always do two.

Recently I used a lip scrub before I used this - wow, talk about drying. I won't do it again in a hurry! I almost always use a lip balm underneath this when I wear it to make it slightly more comfortable and easier to apply, but usually I don't notice it on my lips. Lasting power leaves a lot to be desired, and it transfers quite easily as well (always gets on my chin!!)

I have to say, since using Jeffree Star, this formula is a lot more drying than I thought. I will still use it however, but I know in my heart I won't buy it again or give Lime Crime any of my money.

Matte lips

I have mixed thoughts on this product, I got caught up in all the hype I must admit, I wanted some vixen red lips that didn't budge. What I didn't consider was matte lips and I don't get on much, while it looks great on others I just don't seem to be able to pull it off! I have red velvet and while I adore the colour the formula wasn't really what I expected. It was very watery which made it really hard for me to apply, no matter what I get a stupid amount on my teeth! A little goes a long way so I think you need to apply with a lip brush to get a neat job. Once dry (I feel it takes awhile) it is very long lasting. Overall it was an impulse buy which just doesn't suit my preference. I think I'll stick to the lipsticks in future.

UPDATE: I am not sure if it's because mine has been exposed to the air but the formula has changed slightly, it's a lot easier to apply now, not so watery. So it's not quite as nightmarish to apply anymore which is great!

Suedeberry velvetine

I loooooove the look of matte on lips, think its gorg. But for reason I found that the formulation of this product, although it did stay all day and didn't budge, was extremely drying on the lips. Also the colour was slightly darker than what I was expecting. All in all a better than average product with minor problems

Tips: Make sure you moisturise your lips like crazy before you use.

Pink Velvet: hard to apply but worth the hassle!

I have the Pink Velvet one and despite loving the colour, I have mixed feelings about the product. As someone who can barely colour in between the lines, I initially struggled with its application as it is really runny and bound to go everywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE; waaay beyond your lip line). Your hair, your face, your clothes; nothing will be spared if you're not careful!

Once it is on and it has dried it is a fabulous shade of pink. The matte consistency is rather drying though, so make sure to moisturize your lips before and after wearing this lipstick.

Tips: Apply with caution! You need a slow and steady hand to master this product.

Beautiful Product, Mixed Reviews

After hearing a lot of hype and rave reviews about the Velvetines, I finally got around to trying them out for myself. I own three of the six colours- Pink Velvet, Red Velvet, and Wicked, all very unique, intense colours. I'll start off with the positives-they're beautifully packaged, and certainly do what they advertise, they've got amazing dramatic colour with awesome pigmentation and they're VERY longwearing. Because they are a liquid lipstick/ lipstain they don't need to be re-applied, meaning that a little goes a long way- great value for money aaand low maintenance on a night out! So while I think they are a great innovative product, there are some drawbacks that you should be aware of- they have an incredibly matte finish when dry (no gloss at all), and as a result can be very drying on the lips. To combat this, as well as the fact that I prefer as little shine to my lips colours, I find myself having to apply a little balm or gloss when wearing them which makes them much more likely to smudge and wear off, and kind of defeats the purpose of wearing a longlasting stain. If you're anything like me, make sure your lips are as hydrated as possible before applying, or you'll find yourself constantly wanting to lick your lips!

Tips: Be very careful when applying, because once it's dry it becomes very hard to remove- using lipliner underneath will help with this, as well as preventing the product from feathering or bleeding, which it is a little prone to doing.

Velvetines

I have tried the Wicked shade of the Lime Crime Velvetines (which i am wearing in my profile picture) and I love it. Such a rich wine red.

However what did bother me was that although it sticks really really well (a little too well when you're attempting to remove it lol) i find that I get an area around the inside of my lips that I've chewed/sucked/bitten off and it looks really terrible. You'd think that that'd be easy to solve with a simple re-application but when you re-apply these Velvetines they go quite lumpy and you can really see the edges of where you've chewed. It's just apersonal flaw of mine but yeah.

Tips: Apply with a lip brush rather than the wand to get a crisper edge otherwise you can go around the outside with concealer.

Not Sure If I Love It To Bits

I was really excited to buy my very first Velvetine, my very first Lime Crime after wanting it for months on end! So, a month ago I caved and bought myself Red Velvet. At $30 it's really expensive for a lip product in my opinion, and I might have expected miracles as everyone raved about it.

The packaging is beautiful, yes, and the product inside smells lovely, and it's Lime Crime, I mean, what's not to love?

Pro's: It's beautifully packaged, it's luxurious. It stands out from the crowd of red lippy wearers. It's a smooth formula. It doesn't bleed.

Con's: You can't build the colour. Once it's set, you can't patch it. If you lick your lips or anytime when your lips are wet, the colour rubs off ie when you're eating a burger, drinking coffee, etc. It does make your lips dry, and shows your dry lips off to everyone if you don't moisturise them first ie. use lipbalm.

I don't know if I'm completely sold though, yes it's a great colour and a great lipstick, but I think the hype over these were maybe too big and ultimately it was a let down because it didn't exactly do everything that everyone claimed.

Will I repurchase? I might buy another colour and see if I like it.

Tips: Don't lick your lips, or rub them as the colour will come off. Try to keep your lips dry for it to last longer.

A little drying

I was so excited to try this after all the rave reviews. Nice attractive packaging very pretty, nice to see the level off the lippy and a nice sponge tip applicator. So nice primed lips and a great pencil lip liner around the edge I carefully stick this on my lips evenly all over stick my finger in my mouth and pull it out I hate lippy on my teeth. And such a lovley deep pigmented colour very matt and my lips knew I had it on them sort off a drying feeling. This colour lasted a couple off coffees and lunch with no topping up around 6 hours, and when it decided to come off it was quite patchy but it was the end off the day and the rest off it just came off with makeup remover easy as. My lips did feel dry all day and even through this is a long wearing lippy I have had ones that last as long but are more comfortable for my lips and around the same price. A great lasting product I won't probably wont repurchase as I like soft lips.

Tips: keep your lips dry

Beautiful Colour & Packaging, but not for me

Its weird to think a year ago, I didn’t know or care who Lime Crime was, but when this company did pop up on my radar, it was because of their velvetiness. They were beautiful. I have googled swatches for these left, right and centre, and not just because of the beautiful and unique colours they came in, but also because the beautiful packaging.

The lime crime velvetine range is packaged in a clear frosted plastic cylinder. The top half on the packaging is red and covered in roses with the lime crime logo printed in white text. It’s pretty and I don’t think anyone could deny that. The red part of the packaging twists off and pulls out of the frosted section to reveal the wand applicator, and the beautiful velvetine inside. In my case, my chosen colour was uptopia, which is an epic cool toned magenta.

Application is easy, but I find with the package design, way more product then I need come out so I have to wipe it off before I use it which make it a bit messy. But it’s a good fact that a little bit of this product goes a long way. I use the wand for application, and carefully line my lips with the velvetine before colouring in my whole lip. The colour is opaque, that’s for sure and it has some serious staying power. But I also find that it really really dries my lips out. Plus even when I exfoliate before using the product, this product seems to almost highlight the lines in my lips.

I find this product is lovely in regards to colour and packaging, but it just does not agree with my lips and this means I rarely reach for this product, and have only used it a handful of times. For that reason as well as a couple others, I won’t be repurchasing Lime Crime Velvetines again, and I have decided to sell my Utopia Lime Crime aswell.

I have NY-CEE, MA-LI-BOO, SHAN-HAI and TO-KI-O... MA-LI-BOO is probably my fave - it's the neon pink in my profile pink, but SHAN-HAI is a lovely darker pink that could suit you!

I really want to try these. Utopia is the purple yeah? That's on my list. I'm liking my Australia Velourlips a lot and I'm told by some that these are better but by some that they aren't as good
