Average brow pencil

I feel very on the fence about this brow pencil. Firstly I really like the style of the pencil - the angled shape makes it really easy to fill in your brows precisely. The spooly on the end of the pencil is really handy to have as brushing through your brows after applying product is essential for me.

I did find that the colour of this pencil was a bit off. For a brunette shade I expected it to be slightly more neutral/cool, but it was a very warm colour that was almost orange. It didn't suit my brows at all and it looked very unnatural.

Lastly the thing that would make me not use this pencil again is that the product kind of pills up on my brows, and leaves little particles of colour in random places. I think the formula is slightly too soft so it comes off very easily when you use it. I think this has to be used with a very light hand to avoid the weird pilling that I got.

I will definitely be using this product again, but I think you should test the shade range in store since the brunette colour was very orange.

Tips: Use a light hand and make sure to brush through your brows to avoid pilling.

Fuller brows without fuss

Brow pencils abound today. I have tried an eye-raising amount of these- pencils, twist-up pencils, pomades, felt tip, temporary tattoo style, powders- and the best ones have been soft, creamy, and retractable pencils like this L'Oreal Paris Brow Artist Xpert in 108 Warm Brunette.

The triangular tip is both precise and chunky in one- you can sharpen your arches but also glide over brow for fullness and colour.

The gray and brown plastic casing is sleek and serious, and features a decent length spoolie at the end (about 3mm length bristles).

As a medium brunette, I found this long-lasting shade to be redder than I would usually use but this gave my brows some warmth, and I like this.

There is no apparent smell to this affordable ($22.99 rrp) product and I doubt that this would alter much over time, due to lid. It did not irritate my skin at all.

There is about 3cm of pencil and this could last me about a year, as only a small amount is needed for each application.

Tips: lean the pencil slightly to achieve sharper definition and use a light hand when filling in brows.

Amazing

I bought this after reading the reviews but have tried so many brow products and always been underwhelmed. I have very thin (over plucked) brows and normally anything that makes them look thicker looks very unnatural. I don’t know what it is about this formula but it just glides on and looks incredibly natural. I’ve never been as happy with my brows as I have over the past few months using this brow product. The spoolie brush is quite robust which would be great for thicker brows. I dropped mine when I first got it and the whole pencil came out, unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of product but I’ve been using mine for a few months and it’s still going strong . The shade range is pretty good too. I have already purchased a back up.

All in One Brow Artist

As someone quite inexperienced when it comes to brow-enhancing products, my first impressions of the L'Oreal Brow Artist retractable eyebrow pencil are that it is very straightforward to use, and it gives you a lot of control over how little, or how much, you'd like to pump up them brows. I tried the 108 'Warm Brunette' which shade matched really quite well with my dark brown brows. I like that there is a wide shade range available with this product as it's far harder to match your brows than it is your lashes. The triangular tip of the pencil means that you can draw on individual hairs with the fine point and also shade less precisely with the wider end. In this regard it absolutely lives up to the claim of being mistake-proof, which is important if you're not yet a brow expert! I love that the spoolie brush is attached and it gives a really natural look to your brows once they're brushed out. The product blended seamlessly without effort. One claim that didn't hold true for me was that the longevity being 24hrs and waterproof. It was quite easy to rub off from areas where my brows are thinner, in denser areas though, it did hold for the day.

Overall, a great product to try if you're looking for an all in one tool that provides lots of control and subtlety.

Tips: Start with a light hand and work your way up to a bolder brow.

L'oreal Paris Brow Artist Xpert

This is a very good eyebrow pencil, the consistency is smooth and and application is easy and it blends very well with the attached brush. The tip is triangular so that the thin side is used to create the brow shape, and the thick side of the tip is to colour in the brows. I found it just blends into one thick line for me so I would prefer a thinner tip for more precision. The longevity is great and my brows still looks good at the end of the day, and I have had no smudges after going to gym. The colour 109 Ebony is perfect for my dark brows and I don't feel the need to tint them anymore to improve my mousy brown. The the result I get from this pencil is great for the price and I would recommend this to other people because of the ease of use.

Tips: Use very light strokes at first to get the shape you want to avoid depositing too much colour.

You too could become a Brow Artist Xpert

I've been very impressed with this Brow Artist Xpert product from LÓreal Paris, right from the very first application. Here's why:

* Firstly, it's an attractive-looking product in silver and brown, with a retractable, triangular-shaped pencil at one end and a blending brush at the other. Both ends have lids that are easy to get on and off, and the whole product is easy to grip and use. I was quite surprised when I first took the lid off the pencil end, as the triangular-shaped pencil is not something I'd come across before. But after using it I can honestly say it's been well-designed, with the user in mind...

* The triangular-shaped pencil does indeed seem to allow for more control over the whole shaping/shading process than many other brow pencils do. It definitely helps me to be more precise when defining and sculpting my brows. I've never really been that great at doing my own brows, but the more I use this product, the more I feel I'm improving on my technique! So it's a pretty aptly-named product in my opinion. You DO feel like a bit of a brow artist expert when using this product! Don't get me wrong, I'm still not perfect at it, I still have the odd mishap, but I'm so much better at brow artistry with this product at the ready!

*The pencil is soft and the formula is lovely and creamy, so you only need a light touch when applying it - no need to break out the biceps!

* The brush at the other end of the applicator is very good for then blending the colour in well. I'm able to blend with this brush without too many brow dramas at all!

*The product stays on the brows well and doesn't seem to wear off or smudge over the course of the day. It does take a bit more effort to take off at the end of the day (compared to some other brow products I've used), but that's a very small price to pay for some nice-looking brows!

In summary, the triangular-shaped pencil may not be groundbreaking, but I do think it's a beneficial design as it allows for more accuracy and control. The brush then blends the colour in nicely. For these reasons, this brow pencil has the edge over others I've used. You can't really ask for more in a brow pencil, unless you're wanting it gold plated - with perhaps a diamond on top!

I'd recommend LÓreal Paris Brow Artist Xpert to anyone who does their own brows. It'd be perfect for younger women just starting out at doing their brows or indeed the older girls like myself who still need to improve on their technique! It's a very helpful, user-friendly brow pencil that I can't really fault. FIVE kisses.

Tips: Apply with a light touch - there's no need to be too firm with it as it's a soft pencil. Also, you may inadvertently end up changing the shape of the pencil if you are too overly forceful with it. It's a nice, creamy, soft formula that requires little effort to apply.

Really Good Brow Pencil

I really like this eyebrow pencil. The shade I was sent was warm brunette. It wasn't an exact match for my brows, but I liked that it was just a touch lighter. I found it added a but more depth and texture, rather than making them look drawn on and heavy.

The pencil is kind of like a crayon, a very thin crayon. It's triangular in shape, which is great for angled strokes.

I love that the spoolie end is firm - it blends and tidies the brow easily.

I found my brows still looked good at the end of the working day and removed easily with my usual supermarket cleanser.

Recommend highly.

BDB Dupe!

My natural brows are very fair, so I have them tinted regularly. I still need to use a pencil though, for definition and filling them out. I've been religiously using the Billion Dollar Brow pencil for a few years now.

This pencil has a good texture when applying it, and the pigmentation is fantastic. It's easy to get defined lines. The spooly brush on the other side is perfect for blending the lines out and creating a soft, deep brow.

I like the warmth of the colour of the brunette shade I was sent.

This is about 10$ cheaper than my usual brow pencil, and just as good, if not better. Thanks BR I've found my new fave!

Best brow product I have tried

Easy to use, good quality brow product. I love that it was the brush on the other end to help groom the brows. Such nice rich colours too.

Brow Artist Xpert

It’s a soft but sturdy pencil that glides very easily and feels more like a crayon than a pencil. Took me 2-3 tries before I get the hang of it - applying it with a lighter hand produces better results.

The brush on the other end is a thoughtful addition. It means I don’t need to hunt for a brush, especially when I’m in a rush to get out of the door. The brush is not too hard and not too soft either. Just right!

The colour I get (109 Ebony) is a deep dark brown that matches my black hair and my fair skin perfectly. I really like the colour, as I find black is too full on for me and most browns I’ve tried have too much red on it.

The only reason I’m giving less mark for this product is it doesn’t last 24 hours on me. Everything seems to slowly disappear, leaving nothing much by the end of a very long day.

Tips: Make sure you retract the pencil after every use so you don’t accidentally smooshed them on the cover like I (absentmindedly) did.
