Not my fave

I feel like this was possibly a touch too heavy for my hair as it is very dry but gets greasy really quickly. After drying my hair and styling it, it looked and felt great but by the next day my hair looked really flat and dull. The Ointment (which i found a weird term to use) didn't weigh my hair down initially, but i did feel like it held on to the water so it took a little longer to blow wave my hair than normal. Again packaging is really pretty but would prefer a flip top lid instead of a screw lid (if i'm being fussy) just because it makes it much easier and faster to use.

SALON QUALITY

Firstly this range comes in beautiful high end looking packaging - salon quality you could say (but at supermarket prices) and would look fab in any bathroom! The scent is a lovely almost minty manly scent, and could certainly be a shared family range that the hubby/partner would be happy to use, I even used this treatment on my 4 year old sons hair and it feels so soft and smells amazing.

I have a tendency to get oily roots with dry ends (I have colour treated ends - Balayage) so this was just enough extra nourishment to add to my lengths on towel dried hair. I did not really like this when putting on dry hair, I personally think it works better on towel dried hair for some reason, and then combed through.

Instructions were to apply a walnut sized amount but on my hair length, i felt this was too much - as the first time I used this after washing with the shampoo and conditioner my hair felt heavy and tacky like, the description of the softening ointment says it leaves hair detangled and nourished - when I read this I envisioned my soft hair blowing in the wind ... But in reality I kinda felt like I wanted to wash it again!

Tips: Depending on hair length, start by applying a pea sized amount and comb through, add more as required.

Perfect for Dry/Tangled/Flyaway Hair

'My hair was so soft when I washed it I couldn't even feel it' - this was the comment my 7 year old daughter made after using my L'Oreal Paris Botanicals Safflower Rich Infusion Shampoo & conditioner. I have to agree with her as my hair has never felt this soft with my regular shampoo.

We had some trouble working out how to open the shampoo pump but that was more of a user error (should have been wearing my glasses ;-).

I tried different drying techniques to see how it would look and I'm so impressed. After the first wash, I let it dry naturally and I was actually able to leave the house with naturally dried hair that looked half decent. I would never usually leave the house without blowdrying or straightening my hair - or at the very least tying it up as it just sticks out all over the place due to it being dry. After using the botanicals safflower shampoo & conditioner it dried really nicely and sat really well which is unheard of for my hair.

Next up was blow drying, and again, no need to straighten it as it was sitting really well. It looked really soft, silky, shiny and healthy - not the dry lifeless hair I'm accustomed to.

Lastly I blowdried and straightened my hair and it was still so soft, silky and healthy looking after the additional heat treatment. My hair can look a bit like straw sometimes after I've straightened it.

The ointment is also fantastic on both wet and dry hair. I tried the ointment over the weekend on dry hair that had been washed, blowdried and straightened the previous day. It was perfect at smoothing all the fly away hairs, without it looking greasy or unwashed. It actually looked shiny and as if it had been just washed.

We also tried it on wet hair, both my daughter and my own. I felt that it gave some extra protection before blowdrying my hair - definitely less fly away hairs. It was fantastic to use on my daughter's hair as she has long wavy hair which tangles easily. This was fantastic at detangling and leaving her hair looking amazing. All three products smell particularly lovely, as if I've just been to the hairdressers.

Overall we're so impressed with the shampoo, conditioner and ointment that we will definitely be buying this in future. The kids currently have their own shampoo & conditioner but I think I will buy this for all of us in future, or at the very least my daughter and I as it has made a huge improvement for both of us.

Tips: Don't use too much product on dry hair.

Easy to Overdo

I was lucky enough to receive this product, along with the accompanying shampoo and conditioner, from BR. My hair is fine and frizzy, damaged by bleaching, dying and using my straighteners. For my hair, products need to be capable of giving moisture and shine without weighing it down and making it look like I haven't washed my hair in a week (which I probably haven't, but I don't want it to LOOK like that!).

First off I washed my hair with the accompanying shampoo and conditioner. At the end of my shower my hair felt soft and cared-for. As per the instructions, I applied a walnut-sized amount of product to my hair. The packaging is very light on instructions (no instructions at all for the shampoo and conditioner) and it didn't specify where or how to apply the ointment. As such I put some in my fringe - the part most prone to being a fluffy mess. Instead, I looked super greasy! Maybe that was a rooky mistake, but it would have been nice to have more direction as to how to use the product.

The second time I used this product I applied this product I used less - a walnut minus the shell, as opposed to the previous walnut with shell (why do people use that as an indication of size? Do they mean with or without the shell??). I kept it to the ends and lengths and tried to make sure it was spread out. This time I achieved the desired result - soft, but not greasy, hair.

Do I think this was an amazing, life-changing (or at least hair-changing) product? No, I don't. Used in combination with the other two products it did, indeed, give me softer hair. However, the results achieved were not so different to other products I've tried. While my hair felt softer it doesn't appear to look any better condition than normal. Perhaps use over a long period would show an improvement in condition. At this price, you can afford to give it a shot, but at this stage I don't consider it a game-changing product.

Tips: Don't be too generous with the amount unless you like the oily look!

Very conditioning

I have been using the matching shampoo/conditioner for just over a week now with thus ointment.

I have had mixed reviews on these products- see my separate reviews.

It does take a great product to help my hair, as it is long, chemically treated and really needs a lot more tender loving care than it gets!

I applied this product a couple of times over the week to assist with getting the brush through my hair.

I used the product on towel dried hair and followed it up with a quick blow dry to get the dampness out.

Yes, it helped me to get my hair brush through my hair, though it didn't provide any miracles.

I liked how it left my hair, it didn't leave a greasy look, which meant I could have the treatment in my hair throughout the day.

The ointment had a nice smell and did not leave my hands greasy.

Overall I am pleased with the ointment results.

Unsure If I Would Use This Again

I am very fussy when it comes to aftercare hair care products. If they don't do what they say they are going to do, then I will move on to the next good thing. This may be the case for this product.

I first tried it after the shampoo and conditioner in this range before styling my hair. When it came to drying my hair with my hair dryer, I felt it didn't offer any protection and my hair felt dry (after it had felt so soft after washing and conditioning). FAIL. I then went on to straightening my hair with my trusty straightener and wow, it was actually super easy to straighten my hair. Hard to tell if this ease came from this product, or the previous shampoo and conditioner use in this range, but hey, I was impressed. I then went to try it as an after styling treatment but unfortunately found it too heavy for my hair.

Being one not to give up I decided to try another tactic. The product said to try it on wet hair before styling - so I decided to try it as a deep conditioning treatment...and you know what? It worked!

Unfortunately this is probably my least favourite product in the range, but I am going to experiment with it some more to find the best result with it for me.

Tips: If you are going to use it as an aftercare product, don't use much. Also, even though it doesn't state to use it this way, I used this product as a conditioning treatment with pretty good results

It's not everything

I have used this softening cream in both wet and dry hair. I applied a walnut size amount and massaged through after towel drying my hair. To me it didn't make any real difference, which was a bummer. However applying the same amount to dry hair was amazing! After styling my hair (straightening/curls) I would rub some through and it would keep flyaway tame and it also gave shine to my hair aswell. What I loved most about this is that using it as a styling product it didn't leave it feeling "wet" just dried through my hair.

Tips: Use before bed as an overnight treat x

Lovely product but nothing to write home about

Again with this product I love the packaging and the colours of the bottles (I trialled the full regime). One thing about the tube I don't like is the screw cap, maybe I'm fussy but I like a flip top as they are easier to use.

Love the smell of this product, very fresh and makes your hair smell great.

I didn't need to use that much of the product as I have shortish hair and it seems a little goes a long way which is good.

I used the product on my hair wet before I blow dried and it didn't really make a lot of difference - my hair still was quite dry looking and flyaway even though I used a decent amount.

In saying that I can't be too harsh as I haven't tried it on dry hair yet and can see by other reviews that it may work better on dry hair :)

I probably would buy it again in conjunction with the other items of shampoo and conditioner if it was on special, not sure if I would buy it at full price.

Tips: Don't use too much, it says use a walnut sized amount but I think that's too much, start with a little and you can always add more

Just average

With my very long, slightly dry and rebellious hair I was excited to be chosen to test out the new range from L'Oreal Paris Botanical range. This review is for the softening balm that accompanies this range. I tried this on on wet hair (after getting out of the shower from shampoo/conditioner) and also on dry hair to tame the fluffies!

The draw card for me the natural focused ingredients, the lack of parabens and silicons definitely was a great point for me.

This balm comes in a small tube. As all the range, The packaging is really funky, I really like the colour way- it's natural looking colours and on trend design.

The smell is pleasant and not too strong. The colour is white and just a fifty cent piece was enough to massage through my hair.

As my hair is very long, and on the dry/ rebellious side, treatments and balms are very important to make my hair look smoother and healthier.

This balm applied nice and also worked quite well to moisturise my hair. (My hair wasn't as glossy/ silky as it gets using my holy grail product, but it still did a good job).

Overall, not my absolute favourite from the range but a good and affordable product for those with dry hair.

Use as recommended?

This stuff is interesting, I liked it, but I liked it my way. Read below.

Let's start with the packaging. Gorgeous autumn colours, so nice in fact I left it out rather then hiding the bottle away which I normally would do. The thought in design is evident and it looked great. It comes in a squeeze tube similar to a hand cream.

Secondly the smell is devine! To smell from the bottle it smells warm and exotic but once applied to your hair it smells fresh and pepperminty. Contradictory I know, but heaven scent.

The softening cream I'd describe as an added treat, that something special over and above. I personally applied it to my wet conditioned hair and left it on a while before near rinsing it out. The intention though is to leave it in and not rinse it however, to wet or dry hair. I tried a small amount on my dry hair and didn't like it this way at all. Sad to say that lovely peppermint smell suddenly felt like I was rubbing toothpaste though my hair. It was far to thick to manage effectively. It made my hair feel like it needed to be washed honestly. Be sure not to overdo it, it does weigh your hair down.

Tips: Don't over do it! Try it my way by applying it to wet hair and rinsing out after a few minutes, this in my opinion, gives a much nicer result.
