Nails: Are You in the Mood?

We were mad about magnetized nail polish. Totally in love with textured polish. Went silly for shatter. And gel polish is still a firm favourite. But we’ve just discovered another kind of polish, and we’re hot for it, because it is cool!

Thermal nail polish, also known as colour change polish, remind us of those funky mood rings we wore when we were kids. They’ve been around for a couple of years, but with winter coming we think they’re a fun way to brighten up your look, while amusing yourself on a dreary day.

So how does it work? Is it magic? Not quite. There’s a whole science involved, which I could try (and fail) to explain to you, so instead if you’re interested click here. Basically, in a nutshell, thermal nail polishes change colour based on your body temperature and the environment you’re in. So if it’s cold in your bathroom and you step into a hot shower your nails will change colour. If you’ve been in a blistering hot office then step out into icy temperatures, they’ll change colour again, some polishes will even change is such a way that they create a gorgeous ombre look.

They’re a whimsical way to switch up your style, and they’re actually kind of ideal for people who’d like to change their nail polish more regularly, but don’t have the time or patience.

So have you got the jump on us and already given these polishes a whirl? Have you never tried them but are keen to give them a go? Are there any other fab styles of polish we gals need to know about? Chat away…

Oh my gosh! I want these! I have never heard of it before. Would be keen if someone knew where to get these from

I think these are really cool, I so want to get some and try them out.

These sound fantastic! I've lost count how many polishes I have, and I literally change the colour every few days. Unfortunately I haven't managed to find a set of polishes that tend to stay on my nails longer than that (and I usually use Orly, Essie or OPI ...) so I'd be interested to know the staying power of these!

I've tried one of the Ruby Wing (brand) colour changing polishes. I can't remember the name of the colour, but it was a creamy pink colour that changed to a deep burgundy colour when it warmed up. It was fun to play with (I kept sticking my hand in the sun to make the polish change colour) but I think the novelty has now worn off.

OML I need the thermal polish in my life! How cool is this ??? I'm off to research them right now!

Ooo I love this concept... haven't actually seen them before either. I have seen Kaleidoscope ones where the colour shifts depending on the angle but not mood ring type colour changes. Wonder where you can buy them from? :)

I tried some years ago, it was a BYS Polish. It was pretty good, but you could only really see the colour change if you held your hands in hot and cold water. They didn't create an ombré look though

I never tried these but these are really cool. I like the idea of having a different look for a bit. Will have to get a hold of some and try it.

That is the most amazing thing I've seen today! They sound so awesome but also slightly chemical. Unfortunately I've never seen these in the shops before or online so I've no idea they even exist. Glow in the dark nail polishes are pretty cool too.

Ohhh, I would love that look. Always something nice to look at on a cold, grey day.
