I won a captioning contest on the Oasis Facebook page, and this was one of the delightful prizes. I have a love hate relationship with most self-tanning products, especially cream ones at that, so I was sceptical it would work as well as they say.
The bottle is plain white and shiny, which is a shame because if it were matte it would match the rest of the Oasis range better. Super Tan is big and easy to read, and it made me think that the bottle should have a cape. The lid flips on and off easily, and there is an annoying silver protector under the cap. Inside the box was also a mitt – I’m not sure if they all come with a mitt or if it was included because it was a prize.
The product itself is an orangey brown, and it is THICK. I didn’t really smell it when I had it on my mitt but as soon as it hit my leg and rubbed around I wasn’t too impressed – no fake tan smell, but the smell that is coming out of this isn’t what I want to be huffing either. It almost smells like cooking oil. Gag.
As I said, it’s thick, and I now know not to use too much. Too much product and you find yourself struggling to get it to dry, and too little you’re left with product that’s dried too fast. Not to mention the streaks! So I’m still trying to find the perfect amount for me. The color going on is still that same orangey brown, but slightly less intense as it’s being applied to the lily whites. Usually when I use Bondi Sands (ultimate fave) it takes a bit for me to notice the “tan” but with this it was pretty noticeable straight away and I found I didn’t need to continue for any extra days. (I did the second day, but I think too many days in a row will leave you with oompa loompa legs.)
The tan lasted longer than I expected for a gradual tanner, and I like it even more because I can apply it with my hands if I need to. In my opinion the mitt was useless, but luckily I already had one I could use. So, it’s a great product, but perhaps the payout is too orange for me.
The sleek white tube stuck out to me when this arrived in my NZ Brands Best beauty box ever, an added bonus was it came with an application mitt and normally you need to purchase these separately when you buy tanning lotion.
First I exfoliated my skin all over before applying the tanner. The formula of this is like whipped cream, its thick like cream but also light, it reminds me of caramel (delicious) It has a light tanning scent which impressed me, I dont like the fake tanning smell so this was a big plus for me.
Using the glove I applied a dollop of tanner onto the middle and with circular motions I rubbed it in. I was amazed when I first applied this how quickly and smoothly it absorbed into my skin. It was also an instant change in colour on my skin. I found if I put too much cream onto my mitt it was harder to rub into my skin, its easier to use a small amount and apply more a little bit at a time. I wait for the first layer to dry and then I add a second layer. A fan made drying time a lot more easier and using a full length mirror to make sure you get every inch of your body.
Towards the end of the day the tan darkens but after you shower it takes that darkness away . I like the idea that each day you can apply more to build up the colour, on the second day I applied another layer and it was a perfect shade for me. When applying this there was no streaks on either days which impressed me.
Over the past few days my tan has slowly lightened and its been gradual, I love the shade it gives me, its like a caramel tan with no orange to it and it is very hydrating on my skin.
I would highly recommend this tanner, I will be repurchasing this again.
Tips: Use a little coconut oil on your elbows, knees and ankles to stop the tanner from absorbing too much into the creases. I found standing by a fan helping the drying time.
