Did not work

I was excited to trial this as it seems like a more convenient, clean and pain free way of removing hair than other methods. Unfortunately it dod not work for me.

The product looks nice, it's stylish and well presented and easy to hold in your hand. I only used this on my legs as it seems too rough for other areas. My hair is quite thick as it's winter and i haven't been shaving as much. I followed all the instructions but it was just no good at removing hair. I think it did exfoliate my skin and left it quite smooth though.

Definitely wouldn't bother purchasing, I'll be sticking to shaving.

This was interesting to use...

Let me start out by saying I have normal skin, both face and body. I am pretty lucky and don't have any issues with shaving or waxing etc. I was excited to try this, especially the fact that it was going to buff my skin at the same time.

Firstly, I am not convinced it was 100% pain free, and it wasn't quick. I tried this on my arms first, and it sort of caught on the tiny hairs and would pull at them, rather than removing them. I changed angles, but still had similar issues. It also took a really long time, and I think this created further issues for me. It took so long I actually think it ended up removing layers of skin. I found my skin to be quite sore to the touch in the days following, almost as if had been sunburned.

I did like how smooth it left my skin, but that only lasted for the one day.

I tried using it to get my arms as smooth as possible, and then I tried it one week later to see if it would get the tiny hairs, which it did not.

Tips: It looks smooth and sleek, but honestly I think shaving is a lot faster, and doesn't leave my skin feeling stingy. I liked how smooth my skin felt, but an exfoliant does the same thing. I am sad it didn't work out for me in the way I had hoped, but it may work for some people, perhaps those with a different kind of hair type.

A bit hard to use

I was really excited to see this be an item to try as a trial member however, I was a bit disappointed in how it performed.

I found it didn't really do as it said by removing hair but it did exfoliate! I used small circular motions and applied just enough pressure so that it sits on the skin. I learnt the hard way the first time I used it to not push down too hard otherwise it leaves the skin with a very "cool" feeling and later red bumps appear. It was slightly painful a few days later as well.

I used it on my legs and my arms. I will say it takes a long long time to use and hair is not removed every time, you need to go over areas and if you go over areas too much it starts getting a bit sore. I found that along the shin bone of the leg, it was really difficult to use as the remover doesn't sit flush with the bone and so I wasn't able to use it there. It would be nice if it was curved or something rather than flat so I was able to get the shin bone.

Overall, my good ol' shaver wins this time as this took way longer and results are not guaranteed! Plus I was left a bit red and sore.

Tips: Don't push too hard and don't go over areas too much!

Good for waterless hair removal

The manicare crystal hair remover feels like one of those glass nail files. It’s easy to hold in either hand and the grip side has a matte finish so it doesn’t slip.

You use it in circular motions to effectively buff off the hair. It’s challenging to get into crevices, like the dents at your elbow. You do get the smell of burning hair (like with the cream chemical removers) but overall it definitely functions. It removed most of the hair from my arms (I have very hairy arms) though it was a little patchy and stung a little, I think I overdid it a fraction. You have to be a bit careful not to over exfoliate.

I used it on my leg - one leg dry-shave and the other crystal removal. The time was similar though I am faster at shaving. The results felt the same and after a couple of days they still feel the same. But it was my shaved leg that had bit more of a sting this time for a bit after (that is normal for me and I have heard it happens if you do that use fresh blades).

Overall, it’s a novel idea. I wouldn’t use it for my regular hair removal product but it would be great of you’re going away camping with less access to water and not have to worry about the blades dulling or rusting. So the crystal remover has it’s place for sure.

Interesting, different but worth exploring...

This is an interesting concept and one which I was intrigued by when I first heard about it. I often have dry legs with the odd inflamed follicle after shaving my legs so the exfoliating nature of this hair remover was really good. The object itself fits nice into your hand although after awhile I did have a bit of a cramp. The crystal pad tends me of a crystal nail file and as you rub it on your legs in the circular motion described it is clearly sloughing off any dead skin. My legs felt so smooth! I found it quite tricky to remove all the hair especially in areas like behind the knees and around the ankles. After using you are left with a white dust (skin I guess) all over and the box says to rinse legs after use. I couldn't be bothered with that but gave them a rub down with my towel. My legs felt beautifully smooth but this would be no good in the summer after tanning as it would remove the layer of tan. The next day I could feel some hair again so it's definitely something you would need to use really regularly. I think using this the night of a tan would be ideal as you'd get a smooth surface without the open pores of shaving.

Tips: Practice makes perfect. This is worth persevering with I think.

Results Not What I was Expecting

Stoked to have been selected for this trial. Have seen similar products on the market but got my chance to try it.

Received the Lilac purple shade. It looks cute. Followed the instructions on the box and attempted to use. I had not hair removed my arms so there was a lot to work with. It didn't pull on my arm hairs per se but did feel a bit like buffing it into non existence. I still have some hair in patches it's not completely smooth like I would have expected. Felt more like an exfoliating product than a hair remover.

As weird as this sounds, I like it for knuckle and toe hair removal. Easy and effective on these areas. I did try on my leg as it was normal regrowth from shaving. Appeared to perform better on shorter hairs.

Compared to my normal form of hair removal for my arms (depilatory cream) this didn't make the cut. It would be faster and less effort to use my other method than using the crystal hair remover.

Tips: May be better for just regrowth or smaller areas.

Instantly smooth but irritated skin

I have been using a combo of shaving and laser hair removal so was excited to see the Manicare Crystal hair remover as another potentional option as I find shaving in between treatments annoying.

I used the Manicare Crystal Hair Remover as per the directions on the packet - used on dry skin after having a shower and used twice in then space of a week. The packaging advises not to use on delicate areas of the body so is not recommended for underarms or to maintain the Braz. The claim is 'uses premium ultra-fine Crystal technology to help buff away body hair and dead skin cells'

The item comes in a cute Lilac colour and is perfectly shaped to fit directly in one hand. It is comfortable to hold and use. To remove the hair you move the crystal hair remover in circular motions in the area you are wanting to treat. I found it difficult to know the right amount of pressure to apply in order to remove the unwanted hair and as a result have ended up with skin irritation. The packaging advised of light pressure however I found myself almost scrubbing as some of the hair seemed stubborn and wouldn't remove.

I found this to only work on flat areas so would be great for legs, arms and back if you wish to treat those areas. The length of time before the hair grew back was the same as shaving (for me 1- 2 days). However the area felt much smoother for a little longer than shaving does.

Product maintenance is easy- a quick rinse after use to wash away the hair on the product.

Overall I am not sure that this will be used regularly in my household. It almost needed to have a curved tip so that it could be used all over the body and not just on flat areas. It was difficult trying to use product around ankles and knee areas.

Surprised!

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when this turned up and I took a good look at it, I thought there was no way it would work on my leg hairs after 16+ years of shaving.

My legs only had a few days of growth when this arrived but thought it give it a go anyway - I washed them in the shower then thoroughly dried them before using the tool in circular motions - it actually worked and left my legs feeling super smooth.

I also thought I'd try it on my arms - which I dont usually use any form of hair removal on so the hair is very fine - unfortunately although it worked, it left my skin feeling grazed and a bit sore so I probably would stick to using this on my legs only.

This would be great for those who aren't sensitive when you need a dry form of hair removal and dont have time to shower etc beforehand.

One improvement I would suggest is some sort of case for storage - the packaging it comes in isnt suitable to be kept long term and the crystal side of the tool could easy scratch some items/surfaces

Crystal Hair remover

The remover is a nice size to hold and use, even for someone like me with small hands. Curved shape allows you to hold and manoeuvre around the body. I was surprised at how well this worked, It doesn't hurt when using and would be a handy way to remove hair if in a hurry. I could see a light white colour where I had used the remover and could feel the skin was getting smooth. Was a good way to also buff away dry skin. I wiped the remover as I went along. Needed to take a bit more care when doing the ankle and knee area as it is rough. I noticed my skin was very tender after using the first time. I am not sure if it was because of the first time using this type of hair removal. It is easy to rinse clean afterwards.

I was suprised!

Going in to this review, I must admit I was very skeptical. But low and behold, the Manicare Crystal Hair Remover absolutely did what it was supposed to do. It removed my hair with very little effort! Unfortunately my skin must be just too sensitive as my legs were ON FIRE within around 30mins and i had to soothe them with a cold flannel. But if you're skin is generally pretty tolerant then I would definitely recommend giving one of these a try. Im disappointed that my skin reacted the way it did, but I will give it a try again in future and see if I have more success.

Tips: Just rub lightly in circles, not too much pressure. If you have sensitive skin I would defnitely recommend doing a patch test first and not going the whole hog like i did! Haha
