Ok so I have read through the reviews of the lucky ladies fortunate enough to recieve the L'Oreal Wild Ombre trial kit. So I will not bother repeating too much about what has alrady been said and give you my personal opinion.
Firstly my first impression was that the colour would be all over and I would follow some special technique to achieve the Ombre look. This was not the case, it is simply a lightening kit that you use only on the portion of your hair you want lightened (ear down). I was unsure exactly where to start applying, even though the box recommended, I googled a few pictures of people with the same hair colour and length as mine - TIP #1
The first stage of mixing the products was straight forward and the instructions easy to understand, no different from any other hair colouring kit you buy in the supermarket. I was impressed with the quality of the gloves.
It is recommended that you start from the back and work your way to the front. Remember that if you take too long on one section, your hair will lighten much more quickly as I found out. I started from my left side at the back, worked my way around the font and then right back finishing at the right front.... BAD mistake. Basically the lefthand side of my hair lightened faster, giving an uneven colour.
The brush is probably what gave me the confidence using this kit as I was terrified I would get an ugly block colour, I felt the brush helped me to give even coverage. I used the back of my hand to guide the brush and keep my hair in place.
Finally, with the processing time, you just need to be aware of your own hair and how quickly it will lighten etc. I washed my hair out after 30 mins as I could see strands lightening far too quickly. When I applied for the second time, I only applied the dye to the strands of my hair I felt needed a little more lightening.
Overall, I found the process way to stressful, I literally stood in front of the mirror for the entire processing time. Colouring only half of your head is scary but if you are prepared to take risks then definately give it a go.
However, in saying that I did achieve an Ombre look for sure. I have had great comments so far and in the future if I apply an all over colour, I will have a great new Ombre look, so its a win win for me.
I love the L'Oreal Paris Preference Wild Ombre shade 2 brown to blonde because of its easy application and great results. While my hair didn't turn out as light as I would have hoped, it did provide a natural look to the lightening of my hair. Unfortunately I did this by myself and realized too late how great it would have been to have someone else do the back sections for me because though the application was simple in theory it was quite difficult to spread it evenly on the hair which you couldn't properly see. So I recommend using a mirror or having a friend to apply it for you. I did have one other problem with the application process because I found that while continuing to apply the mixture to other areas my hair began to clump which made it difficult to firstly, tell if I had applied it evenly and secondly to apply extra to the area it became extremely knotty. Despite these small problems I would definitely use this product again because it does have fantastic results.
Tips: Tip 1: Have a friend that you trust to do it for you or have an extra mirror on hand so that you can see that back of your hair. This is because making sure the back is done as well as the front can be quite difficult. Tip 2: Make sure that you brush you hair thoroughly before you begin because the brush provided does not act as an actual hairbrush and it will be difficult to apply the die if your hair is knotty.(obviously for those with curly hair would need to straighten their hair before using the ombre die just to make things easier and so that the die spreads evenly.) Tip 3: As with most dyes if you are sensitive to strong smells I recommend applying the dye either outside or near a window in case the smell becomes too overpowering for you. Tip 4: I found that while applying the dye with the brush provided a lot would still be left in the brush after I had brushed through a section. For this it is a good idea to slant the brush like / as it allows more of the mixture to come out. (At least that is what I found in my hair.)
