Colourista Wash Out

I bought this for a bit of fun. I trialed a similar one from Swharzkopf and was really happy with the result. This was similar in the format and application, so thought it would be much the same. WRONG! My hair is fine and naturally silver or "metallic blonde", with blonde highlights and the Swharzkopf one delivered what it promised. I git pastel blue again as i feel that this colour suits me. Application was easy and straightforward. The colour however came out really bright! My mokopuna loved it, and once i got over the depth of colour, was quite happy initially. After all, it states on the box that it would wash out after about 11 washes. Well, that was a month ago and i am still blue. For some people this may be a bonus, but i was hapoy for the colour to gracefully fade out after a couple of weeks. Again, like the Swharzkopf one did. Unfortunately, i can't find that one anywhere! And i have been searching for a while. If you are happy for a permanent tint to your hair, then this is for you. If not, don't do it.

Tips: I now know of some blondes that have turned green with this...be aware!

Good staying power

I decided to give this hair colour a try after seeing it on sale in the supermarket. I have used temporary pastel hair colours before from other brands. This Colorista line from L'Oreal is more expensive than those, and I wanted to see if it was worth the extra cost.

My hair is naturally light brown/dark blonde, and I lighten it to a very light blonde. Parts of my hair are almost white, and other parts are more golden blonde.

This hair colour is easy to apply. Just like the packet says there is no mixing required. It is for use on naturally light, or lightened hair only, and can be left on for a maximum of 20 minutes. In the packet you get an 80ml bottle, which is quite a lot. It is enough for a whole head of hair, if your hair goes down to your shoulders, or for more than one application if you are only partially colouring your hair. The packet also comes with two pairs of disposable gloves, so it accommodates multiple colour applications. On the outside of the packet the image of the model demonstrates what the colour should look like. In this instance I purchased pastel blue, which is meant to be a sort of denim shade.

I applied the colour to the ends of my hair only, in a sort of ombre style. You can squirt the colour out of the bottle onto your gloved hairs, and then paint it onto your hair. The colour has built in conditioner to moisturise your hair while it colours it. My hair did feel nicely conditioned after washing out the colour. The colour rinsed out easily afterwards too.

So far the colour has lasted well through washing, longer than other temporary colours I have used. It has only faded a little after a couple of washes, and I had enough left in the packet to touch up the colour after a couple of weeks.

The reason I cannot give this hair colour full marks is because of the colour result. As I said I bought pastel blue and I have very lightened hair, so in theory the colour should have looked just like the packet. But both times that I used it, the colour came out as a brighter blue, verging into turquoise. On the parts of my hair where it is a more golden blonde, the colour was nearly green. It looks all right, it just is not quite the colour I thought I was getting.

So in conclusion, this is a good quality temporary hair colour that lasts well and does not damage your hair. However, the colour on the packet may not be true of the end result.

Tips: Definitely use a towel to protect your clothes when applying, as the dye can get everywhere!

Expensive, but good.

These first caught my eye at New World, doing my weekly grocery shop. At $17.50 a pop I snorted and put the box back on the shelf, but the dye stayed in my mind. I wanted to try it, I needed to try it. Thankfully, the big red shed had a sale, so I picked up two turquoise boxes and went on my merry way.

The bottles were actually much bigger than I was expecting. I’m used to the small metal sachets from Schwazkopf brights range, so when I saw this had nearly triple the amount of product I was blown away. I was also very pleased to see that this came in an easy to squeeze tube. The turquoise tube is a gorgeous color, assumedly the color of the dye, with a black lid.

Application was easy as pie, and making a pie is pretty damn easy. It is thick, but not nearly as thick as the brights, and it applies a bit like conditioner, now that I think about it. Super simple stuff. I left my dye in for an hour, and then the second time longer than 4 hours, but its preference how long you leave it. If your hair is super blonde, you won’t need too long. Darker hair, longer would be more helpful.

I have managed to get at least 10 weeks out of this dye in my hair, which is roughly 10-15 shampoos like the box suggests, so I’m pretty stoked with that. I am pretty disappointed with the color it went in my hair, it wasn’t the color on the box, nor the tube or even the “color suggestion” on the side of the boxes. In freshly bleached hair it went a green color, and over top of super faded colors, it goes blue. I still like it, but it’s not what I expected. I’m unsure if I’d repurchase, but I still have a bottle left so I’ll use it with a smile on my face!

Tips: I don't think that the box is true, the model has brown, almost black hair and you can clearly see the color - not only is that color not what comes out, but it doesn't show up that clearly in dark hair!

Interesting! I saw that shade the other day on sale and I was really tempted to get and try it since it looked like it came out a nice green turquoise on the model with black hair.
