Becca Shimmering Highlighter 4 Eyes + Cupid's Bow

I paid pretty pennies for a set that had deluxe minis of the pressed shimmering powder and the liquid highlighter in the shade Opal. Opal is described as a neutral white gold with soft pink undertones that's universally flattering, it looks like has slight peach undertone. The mini has 2.40g of product and a small mirror inside and the clasp on the small compact is good. There's no chance it would open your makeup bag. The pan size can fit my Real Techniques setting brush, fan brush and cheek hightlighting brush so it's a good size. Now while everyone online went into this major highlighting craze and went gaga trying to collect every highlighter that would make their cheeks shimmer from a mile away, I didn't jump on the bandwagon. But I wanted to try it out and so I just wanted a small amount which is plenty for the amount of use it gets since I'm more into a glow rather than a shimmer. So I do go for a more subtle highlight usually, but there is a couple places where I prefer to use a shimmery highlight to a more glowy one and that's the inner corners of my eyes and cupid's bow. If I'm using a glowy highlighter on the inner corners of my eyes then I have to really build it up and it doesn't show much, whereas with this I can just apply a bit and my eyes look much more open. Sme with the cupid's bow, it doesn't show much with other more subtle highlighters but add a tiny bit of this and my cupid's bow stands out a bit more and makes my lips look more full, well my upper one that is. I'm into using matte eyeshadow but to make my monolids look a bit bigger and less like monolids I put a shimmery, metallic, or this highlighter in the center of my eyelid to make it pop a tad bit. I have used this on my cheeks and it doesn't look bad but it's just not my style to wear shimmer there especially during the day. This mini will last me a long time and when I do years from now hit pan I would consider repurchasing.

Tips: Excellent highlighter for those wanting more shimmer and less glow, but not chunks of glitter. Can be also used as an eyeshadow. I like this best for highlighting the inner corners of my eyes and my cupid's bow and use a more glowy highlighter on the larger areas of my face.

Beautiful but lacking luminosity: Rose Gold

My review and rating is purely based on Rose Gold - it doesn't by any means apply to the other beautiful colours in this range.

I’ve been using Becca Rose Gold (permanent) for the past 2 years and more recently Blushed Copper (Limited Edition) for the past month. It looks absolutely stunning in the compact but I was unexpectedly let down by the fact that it’s lacking luminosity which I feel any good highlighter should have. I have to use Rose Gold in conjunction with another highlighter that gives me the ‘dream highlight’ I’m after for the day / night. If you like sheen with fine shimmer then this could work really well for you but I’m sure we could all pick up one that is more affordable if that’s what we’re after.

It comes in a sturdy rubber compact, a silver metal lid with BECCA embossed on it and a good quality mirror. Note if you purchase a limited edition shade (with the exception of Champagne Gold) that the lid is the same but the rest of the compact is mirrored plastic and the pressed powder has raised triangular patterns – seriously it’s royalty! Rose Gold used to be limited edition but has since become part of the permanent range and still has the raised patterns which will disappear over time with use; even after 2 years I can still make them out.

In the compact, the pressed powder looks beautiful under any lighting; it’s incredibly pigmented and soft when swatched. However upon application you will notice that there is very little colour left behind on your skin because it’s so soft and blendable that the colour just disappears – I’ve always wondered if that’s how it’s suppose to be or whether it’s just my dark skintone. I do feel that those with a lighter complexion will be lucky enough to see more warmth and added colour with this highlighter. On me, it’s a glowing natural sheen with super fine shimmer - smaller than specks – what do you even call that – fairy dust!? The shimmer transfers quite easily so it’s a good incentive not to touch your face because you’ll be sporting sparkly fine shimmers all day. Lasting power is average even with a primer and another highlighter over the top of it; I can get a maximum of 4 hours.

Would I recommend this highlighter? No. However I would recommend looking at the other shades they have available which may work better with your skintone. In my case I would possibly look towards Opal or Moonstone based on what I have seen online.

Tips: If you’re a chocolate skinned beauty; I’d highly recommend using Rose Gold with another highlighter to give it luminosity – I use The Balm Mary Lou Manizer or MAC Soft and Gentle.
