A highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with M·A·C shadows and liners.

MAC Paint Pots

This is my all time favourite as an eye primer! I have tried a few colours, but Painterly is by far my favourite. Perfect neutral colour for most skin tones, and very smooth and blend-able. I usually apply with my finger, though a spot concealer brush usually does the trick also.

Since I started using this, my eyeshadow has lasted a lot longer each day, it doesn't crease, and the pigment has been a lot stronger too.

My other favourite colour is Blackground, which is the dark black coloured one, absolutely perfect for a smokey eye as a base!

These are a must have for anyone who wants their eyeshadow to last, and could turn even the cheapest eyeshadow into high end quality!

I personally find them very easy to blend. But again, I use my finger to blend as I find the warmth from my finger really helps blend it all in

Love these!

Fantastic product! Almost like using a eyelid primer. It is the perfect base to hold your shadow in place all day! I sometimes just use them on their own. When doing a matte eye I find the shimmery ones like painterly, give another dimension to your eye shadow. Perfect for brides it can crease on really oily skin types but I find if you put shadow on top it doesn't. Comes in a wide range of colours! Just love them.

Tips: You do not need much at all! A little goes a long way!

You need this in your life!

I have this paint pot in the colour constructionist and I love it! I have found that you only need the tinest amount and can use it as a base, by itself as a sole colour or even as an eyeliner. The advantage to these paint pots is that they don't crease over time and I have seen that my eyeshadow lasts longer if I use these. The only slight downside is the drying out of these paint pots over time, so you need to take extra good care of it to ensure it lasts as long as possible! They retail for about $47 from memory, and for the amount of product you get, you are definitely getting a bargain :-)

Tips: turn the pottle upside down when the lid is off and you are using it to stop air getting in and drying it out :-)

Paintpot

This is the best eye shadow money can buy, I swear by this it doesn't budge once put on and has so many uses I have 4 different shades out of this range . you can even use the lighter one dapped on the lip to create a nice ombre effect if done correctly and is an awesome highlighter around the eyes not to heavy and doesn't crease .

Fab eyeshadow primer

I use MAC paintpots solely as an eyeshadow primer. I use painterly most days (and it's actually so opaque and suited to my skin tone I use it under my eyes lightly as a concealer). It keeps my eyeshadow lasting well throughout the work day and also really enhances the colour of the shadow. I can't imagine not using this! I also like bare study, which has a bit of shimmer and is nice for going out. For versatility's sake, painterly is my favourite and it lasts for a really long time for the price, and I've never had a problem with them drying out. Would totally recommend!

A must have in your bag

I love love love this primer! I have it in Painterley and solely use it as a primer. I know they have other colours which would double up as an eyeshadow but I bought the more neutral shade so I could use it under any shadow colour.

Since using this, my shadow colour appears stronger, stayed on longer and doesn't crease at all!

It is quite pricey but I have had mine for years now and still only half way through. I use it every time I wear shadow.

Tips: Doesn't work so well on dry/flaky skin.

MAC Paint Pot

I love MAC's paint pot range.I own a few of these beauties and use these at every opportunity! Once applied it is easy to blend and doesn't drag on your skin. Shadows apply well, do not not crease and are lasting. Although a little bit pricey for the size, one pot will last you a very long time.

Tips: You can use these as a Primer, Shadow & Liner - 3 in one! You can't go wrong!

Best Base

Pretty much every single time I apply eyeshadow I will use my Painterly Paintpot by MAC as a base. My eyeshadow clings to it which gives nice colour payoff plus it stays all day without creasing and gives me a nice even coloured lid to begin with. My favourite application technique is using the brush from one of my Urban Decay Naked palettes. I pick up a small amount of product with the shader type end, roughly apply it to my lid then blend it out and over the entire area with the fluffy end. Less is definitely more with this product, a little provides a nice barrier between the skin and shadow but too much kind of melts and creases.

Mac Paintpot Painterly

i recently bought Painterly and pretty much every single time I apply eyeshadow I will use my Painterly Paintpot by MAC as a base. My eyeshadow clings to it which gives nice colour payoff plus it stays all day without creasing and gives me a nice even coloued base i use a small brush to do so and also put a little under the eye if i am going for a smoky look. It's great as you use a minimal amount so is definately worth paying a wee bit more for it.

Tips: Use a small shadow brush and cover the whole lid for a great base with eyeshadow,

'Bare Study' and 'Let's Skate'

From the start the MAC packaging is great. Makes you feel like you have bought quality. From the glass bottom to the rubberised cap. I love the cap in particular as it lets you get some grip to open this (especially when you close the lid as tightly as I do).

I find using my fingers to apply these best. I find it warms up the product quite nicely so they apply smoothly and means I can blend out the edges. If I use a brush for these I can often apply too much product.

I often use these by themselves on simple makeup days. But they also work well as bases or primers for product. They definitely make powder eyeshadows last longer without creasing for me. I also like that a colored base like this can make the same eyeshadows have a completely different look.

Bare Study - Golden light brown. Great as a starter color although quite shimmery. I say it is great as a starter color as it is very neutral so will be within many peoples comfort zone. It also means it goes with many other neutral shades so you can use it with things you already have.

Let's Skate - Pale shimmery pink. I must say I don't use this nearly as much as Bare Study. But it is a great going out color as it is extremely shimmery. I do get a bit of fall down with this product - the shimmer dropping onto the face. However I usually do my eyes before face makeup so just brush it off. This is great as a bright base and really brings out my blue eyes.

Tips: Make sure you always do the lid up super tight and store them lid side down. As with many cream products these can dry out and doing this can make them last longer.
