Oral-B iO Series 9 Electric Toothbrush

This is the coolest thing. I never realised how much I was favouring certain areas of my mouth, or applying too much pressure on certain spots - really enlightening. It is also really comfortable to hold, handy for travel (the charging carry case is genius!) and the light changes colour when you're applying too much or too little pressure which is great. I'm really excited to keep using this and hopefully seeing some improvement in my dental health and hygiene! A bit weird having to remember my phone every time I brush my teeth, but I am getting used to it. I do find it quite a messy process compared to standard brushing, but perhaps I just need to practise my technique.

I received this to review at the start of a busy work week. I currently have a standard Oral B electric toothbrush which has seen better days and I was looking for an upgrade. This product came with everything I needed to start brushing right out of the box. I downloaded the app and synced to my iphone via bluetooth, super simple process as there was a QR code in the box. The app allows you to monitor your brushing which I found really useful and it helped me to identify areas where I was not brushing properly. There are also different routines you can set up if you want to target specific concerns or just to help keep you on track & they will remind you to do those routines. I did find though I tended to go over the 2min guideline so I need to practise being a bit faster! There were other settings like tongue cleaning, gum care, intense clean, super sensitive, sensitive which I tried but found I liked the daily clean setting the most. It was good to have options. In the box was a chargeable case, love that idea for when I go away, there was also a refill holder so I had somewhere to put the head after removing it for cleaning. It has a magnetic charging base making it super simple to put back on the charger after you have used it too.

I really enjoyed using it, albeit a bit more practice required, my teeth got a good clean according to the app, lol. It is at the higher price point but if you are serious about wanting to keep track of all your brushing routines then this does it all!

This is the first time I've ever had a product to review that has had an immediate impact. I've had a basic Braun electric toothbrush for years and ironically it had just started to die right before I got the iO9 to review. I just did not realise how different the experience would be with this new brush. Even without the app and gamification, just the pure brushing experience was so much nicer.

Opening the box you can tell everything is quality (which you'd expect when you're spending $500+ for a brush!). The brush itself feels solid but ergonomic. The charging travel case is such a bonus (and I even got to try that out). Even the box feels classy!

I downloaded the app before I even got the brush but didn't really look at it much beforehand. But having it's help to guide my brushing, both from a time point of view, pressure and location, was transformative. I never realised a) how mush longer I need to brush my teeth for; b) how I used to put way too much pressure on my brushing, and c) how unevenly I brushed my teeth. Until the brush and app told me.

The added gamification keeps you focused on your routine consistently for a number of days. I'm part way through my first 28-day "journey" and I'm determined to see it through. But I also already have 7 medals in my pot.

Competitive? Me? Nooooooooooo!!!

This is a fantastic toothbrush that has transformed my brushing routine. But would I pay $500 for it? I don't think so. To be honest an online tutorial video would achieve *some* of the same things, although it wouldn't have the same educational impact on the pressure you apply. But you can buy cheaper brushes that just use the LED indicator to tell you that you're brushing too hard (hubby has one).

I was lucky enough to be selected to trial this amazing toothbrush. I had previously been using the cheapest Oral B Electric Brush and thought that did a great job and was skeptical on how this could be any better. I was wrong! This brush is amazing. The head vibrates faster and the different modes change the speed. Intense lived up to its name - this was much too strong for me. I have tried all the settings and the Daily Clean seems sufficient, I personally can't tell the difference between that and Whitening. Intense makes the brush feel like it spinning super fast while Sensitive and Super Sensitive are a much gentler Clean.

I have been using it with the app which I highly recommend. I am currently doing one of the daily program challenges it let's you select from - this prompts you to do all the steps in your Oral care routine such as flossing and cleaning your tongue. The guided tooth cleaning system is also great - again I was thinking I am not that dedicated to toothbrushing to use an app... again I was wrong. As you brush it changes the colour of the teeth on the screen from Blue to White. This ensures you brush all areas - I don't believe I have ever cleaned the inside of my teeth as much. This app would also be great for children so they learn how to brush properly from the beginning.

The difference in mouth feel after use is outstanding. My teeth feel as smooth as if I just had a professional dentist Clean. The brush also lasts a long time between charging. I have been using it for 6 days now and have only just had to put it on charge - it arrived on 48%. So I believe the claims of it lasting 14 days before it needs charging to be accurate- perfect for traveling you won't need to take the charger. The charger itself is also an improvement on the entry level brush - simply stand it on it and the magnet puts the brush in the right spot.

The only downfall for me is the price point. I think $750 for a toothbrush puts it out of reach of many people. However if you can afford it I would highly recommend it.

I was lucky enough to be selected for the trial team for this super product. I will admit to having a certain degree of scepticism around the need for such a "fancy toothbrush", the price tag is on the high side and I did wonder how much better it could be than other electric toothbrushes I have tried that had less features and much smaller price points - I mean an electric toothbrush is an electric toothbrush right? Oh so very wrong was I! Right from the moment I opened the package I could see the quality in this product. The brush handle is a nice size and weight and has a decent sized LED display. The replaceable heads can be stored in the included container, and there is also a travel case (which can be plugged in and used to charge the brush). The charger is a really cool disc thing that the brush balances on and seemed to me to charge really quickly. It was hard to really gauge the speed of the chargers because even though I have been really putting the brush through its paces over the last week the battery is yet to drop below 50%. The brush itself is packed with features, like the colour ring on the brush handle that glows blue/green/red depending on whether you are achieving the correct pressure while brushing and the brush head that made my teeth feel at least as clean as professional cleans at the dentist. The brush has a timer that counts down the two minute brushing time, with a vibration every 30 secs so you can attack each quadrant in the mouth evenly. The Oral B app is where this brush really gets its WOW factor. My fave features are the reminder to replace your brush head and of course the 3D map of the mouth that has teeth that change colour and show you when all areas of the tooth have been brushed long enough. You can also use the History to map your progress over up to 3 months worth of data. If you are the competitive type then the Challenges will be right up your alley with "medals" awarded for different challenges with goals such as "fresh breath" and "whitening". There are many other features and options that I am sure I will discover with more usage but here are my Pros and Cons after one week of use Pros - The clean that you get was superior to any other toothbrush I have ever used. The brush held its charge really well and charges on the very cool looking charger quickly. I was incredibly fortunate to receive the Oral-B iO Series 9 toothbrush to trial. You can buy these wee gems for around $450 at the moment but they range up to around $800. That's a lot of money but when compared with, for example, whitening treatments at a dentist, you could argue that it is value for money. As I've never used an electric toothbrush before, I only have the good 'old-fashioned' mechanical one to compare it to. Here's where it gets interesting, though. It took a bit of getting used to in terms of feeling like I was at the dentist - not my all-time favourite place to visit, but this odd feeling didn't last long and would only have been because I wasn't used to an electric toothbrush. My teeth honestly did feel cleaner after using the Oral-B iO and I can say hand on heart that my teeth are noticeably whiter - even after only a short time using this toothbrush. I chose the whitening setting as this was what I saw as an area of need and I was pleasantly surprised. I also found out that I had not been brushing my teeth for nearly long enough all these years, so this was another bonus in terms of looking after my teeth. The timing function is great - you get a sad face if you haven't brushed for long enough and a smiley face with stars when you have. I quite liked the fun factor of this. Another absolute bonus is that this toothbrush is bluetooth and has an app so you can really make sure you are looking after all aspects of oral hygiene - that's got to be a bonus in avoiding the drill at the dentist! You can use it without the app but it's great fun to explore all the different settings and options and it keeps you on track with progress if you're focused on the whitening function. It also tracks how you are brushing your teeth so that you can see if you are missing spots on a regular basis. This Daily Coaching feature is actually pretty cool. You can use the app and brush and it records how you are brushing your teeth. All you need to do to connect the toothbrush to the app is to turn both on and shake the brush. The Oral-B iO comes with a spare brush head in a nifty wee container and you can also set up a reminder in the app for when you need to change it. I'm still new to the world of electric toothbrushes and I'm continuing to explore the app and other features but I'm loving this experience and have really noticed a difference in how my teeth look and feel. I'm still not sure regarding how expensive this is, but if I'm already noticing an obvious difference in the short time I've had this brush, then I think I'm sold.

To get the 'negative' out of the way...this is expensive. This is a $750 investment - but I think in terms of results, the investment in your oral hygiene is well worth it!

I love the black handle and brush - it's very classy. It does show up toothpaste debris, but that's a reminder to wipe it down haha.

It's pretty intuitive to 'plug and play' with this, and I confess I did that instead of downloading the app or reading the instructions first!

The clean of this is unbeatable. Even without the app, my teeth felt incredibly clean - I just opted for the daily clean mode to start and my teeth felt incredible through the day, and again when I woke up in the morning.

The app definitely allows you to up your brushing game, telling you where you rush, areas you need to pay more attention to etc. It's pretty cool, and if you were a 'sticker chart' kid, you'll love earning medals for brushing your teeth.

Truly an incredible trial team to be a part of, I can't thank BR or Oral-B enough. I will be purchasing replacement heads and using this until it dies, but the quality suggests it will outlive me!

WOW hands down the best toothbrush I have EVER used in my 42 years of life! After the first brush it felt like I’d been to the hygienist. But…let’s start at the beginning. The toothbrush comes in a box that is extremely secure and takes a bit of time to unpack. I took my time and read through all the ‘paperwork’ that came with. This is the bit that caused the ‘but’. The instructions are very ‘light’, and it isn’t clear how to set up the toothbrush. Through trial and error, I had it synced to my phone in about 15min. The instructions are missing the bit that explains how to move from each screen in the menu and save your selections. The device is larger than I assumed, and I thought the brush head was large, but it all works seamlessly. I really enjoyed watching my technique IRL on my phone and the brush lights up if you are using too little or too much pressure. The brush gently vibrates every 30 second to indicate you can move to the next section for brushing. At the end of 2 minutes, it has a longer vibration but doesn’t turn off so you can keep brushing if you want. I found the programme motivated me to want to see if I could improve my score for the next brush. I’ve only used the daily clean option but will experiment with the others over the next week. I wanted to stay consistent to see the results and after just one day it's amazing! For what it does I think the price is worth it. I didn’t realise that if you don’t initiate the brushing session on your phone you won’t get any assessment of your session. There isn’t anything about that in the instructions. The brush does sync and register that you’ve brushed your teeth and the time, but you get no scoring. I did find it frustrating that the date and time on the app are wrong and apparently this is a bug that Oral B are looking at – after some searching online how to fix it. Overall, this is a very impressive toothbrush and I’ve very grateful that I got the chance to review it.

WOW! I was ridiculously excited to be one of the lucky people chosen for this incredible trial! I've always used Oral B electric toothbrushes but a toothbrush at this value was never something I'd ever considered spending money on, so to have the opportunity to try it was once in a lifetime stuff. (As always, thanks BR Babes, you are truly amazing!)

The package came with the brushing unit, 2 heads, a case for the heads and a cool chargeable travel case along with chargers. The travel case is going to be fabulous to store my brush in and keep it charged when I go away for work. I guess a point to note here is that the head is different from other Oral B toothbrushes, so if you have spare heads, you wont be able to use them on this unit. The magnetic charging base is also different from the other models - I was a little sceptical at the brush falling off the charger as it has a flat charging platform, but the magnet is strong enough to keep it in place, and actually makes it heaps easier to keep clean.

When I opened the box I was really looking forward to see what info was in there to convince me that this toothbrush would change my life (at such a high price point it has to right?). Initially I was a little disappointed with the limited info in the pamphlet, but then I realised it had the QR code, and because it had the interactive app, that was where I should start for info. . Downloading the app was easy (iphone), and it setting the brush up with my personal settings was super easy. The app has some really great suggestions, and tracks how you are brushing your teeth.

My first brush - I freaked out because I thought I had chipped a tooth, but it was actually a flake of plaque (gross!!!) that came away - so clearly, this brush is amazing! The colour settings are awesome to guide you to show whether you are applying enough pressure - interestingly it was really clear I hadn't been applying enough pressure because I really had to concentrate to get it to green. This brush has the 30sec buzz reminders which are really helpful, although if you have the app running at the same time when you're brushing, it doesn't do the little buzz. At the end of a brush, you can check the app to see where you have missed any areas, if you were too light or if you applied too much pressure.

I've tried all the settings, and love the intense one, and the tongue clean. There's something really helpful and purposeful about using this brush that makes me want to keep my teeth clean and get that 100% score on the app! Although the brush is up there in price, when you consider what a dentist visit costs - I really think this is worth it. My teeth have never felt so clean, I have never been so excited to brush before, and to be able to identify areas that need more attention is going to prevent tooth decay.

Woweee - you know you're adulting when you get excited about a toothbrush!

This is definitely the most exciting and advanced tooth product I've ever used.

This brush itself is nice and sleek, black finish with a screen which tells you what brush mode you're using, how long you've been brushing, and the battery level when it's not being used. I was previously using the old school Oral B electric brush which tended to just slowly die on you, usually mid brush, so this addition is great.

The brush comes with a stand-up magnetic charger, but also comes with a travel case which has its own charger which charges the brush inside the case.

The brush has multiple settings - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Intense, Super Sensitive, Gum Care, and Tongue Clean. Sensitive and Whiten are my two preferred settings, and I try to remember to finish each brush off using Tongue Clean.

Where this brush gets interesting is when you use the app, and use "guided brushing", using this you can see in real time which areas of your mouth have had a sufficient clean and which areas need some more love. You can also brush without using the app and just view it after to see how well you've done. The interesting thing about this is, if you're like me, you'll find out that there were areas that were being neglected when just doing your regular brushing routine. I have found the guided brushing so useful for ensuring I am brushing for the recommended amount of time and covering all areas of my mouth. My teeth are always left feeling super clean, just like leaving the dentist, and I have had zero gum bleeding while using this brush.

If this product is in your price range - it is definitely a worthy investment that may reduce those spenny dentist visits!
