****This trial opportunity has now closed****

We're laying great foundations this week, and it's not just prepping and creating a beautiful base with our skin that's vital for a finished look.

If you've ever tried to put lipstick over less than smooth lips you'll know the resulting finish will be far from perfect.  Your lipstick will dry, feather, crack and wear off quickly.  You need to prime your lips first, and ideally this should be an ongoing routine.

Begin by regularly (and gently) exfoliating your lips.  You can use the lip balm and soft toothbrush trick or a lip sugar scrub to gently exfoliate your lips using small circular motions. Exfoliation is important to remove excess oil and dead skin.

Next you'll want to ensure your lips are ultra hydrated, especially if you're using lipstick which can be drying.

Living Nature's Lip Hydrator features Manuka Honey to deeply hydrate and condition your pout and Mica to give lips a healthy sheen, and natural sun protection. It promises to treat your lips with its luxurious application and richness along with antimicrobial and anti-oxidant advantages, long-lasting suppleness and soothing benefits.

They're in the BR office right now and we have to say - they look lovely.  But as always, we're going to be looking for new homes for these goodies, so if this is a trial team you'd be interested in why not comment below and tell us your thoughts on prepping and priming your lips; we might just send you one to review!

I know I probably should, it's just never been something I thought too much about!

I think this is something I really need to look into! This sounds like it would be perfect for my lips. I also need to look into lip exfoliating! I can be truly hopeless. this is something I would love to try for my lippy to stay on!

I get dry lips all the time, especially in winter. I've tried exfoliating my lips before applying lipstick but no matter what I do, within a few minutes, most look dry and have sunk into my lip lines. I have tried using lip balm before applying lipstick but I found it only helped slightly and I still had the same problem. I'd really like to try a lip primer as it's a product I'm slightly sceptical about, as nothing has helped me before, but would love to try and see if it really does what it says it will.

I clicked yes but I do not put foundation on my lips. I prime by using lipbalm or pawpaw ointment. I have naturally dry/chapped lips so I always have to prep before putting on any lip product.

I have never heard of or used a primer for the lips. I only ever use the good old trusty reliable Chap Stick when they are dry or sunburnt. Must admit when I use Chap Stick my lips tend to get worse only because I lick it off so probably cause more irritation than anything! Oops. This lip hydrator sounds interesting and great to use just before sleep time so I wake up with luscious lips

I use a chap stick or lip balm before i put on lippy. i only ever use light pink lippies at the moment, but i have an amazing purple lip stain that i love too!

I never really thought of doing this! Makes sense though, and looks like an interesting product. I get really dry lips, especially in winter, and some of my lipsticks are really unforgiving in that department - maybe this will fix them up for me!

Ooooh this sounds like a great idea. I've recently started using lipstick and have been wondering how to stop my lips getting so dry. Very keen to try this!

My lips have been so dry lately as the weather has been getting colder and colder. Normally I only put on some paw paw when it's bad, otherwise my lips are rather neglected. I'd love to try Living Nature's Lip Hydrator - the manuka honey sounds like it would be great for a bit of TLC.

There nothing worse than applying lipstick to super dry cracked lips, as the lipstick just flakes off and brings out the dryness in you lips. I always apply lip balm before I put on lipstick, with enough time for it to sink into my lips beforehand. And if my lips are really dry I'll use a sugar scrub to exfoliate them. This makes my lips super soft and makes my lipstick stay on longer.

As a sufferer from always dry lips, I never use lipstick without at least putting on a layer of lip balm first. If I have time, or it's convenient, I'll exfoliate my lips first with honey and sugar. :) xx

I clicked no because I haven't worn lipstick much before. I do use lucas pawpaw most days but my lips can still get very dry in winter. The reason why I've shied away from lipsticks in the past because of this exact problem with my lips looking gross after I apply it, not knowing what's involved in the perfect lippy application! I really do want to start wearing it though so this would be an awesome opportunity to review!

I've recently started using a sugar scrub and it does wonders. I only started using lipstick properly (and regularly) this year, and using the sugar scrub - as well as a a layer of lip balm - does wonders for the final look. I have never used a special primer but would love to give it a go :)

I didn't even know lip exfoliating was a thing. I use lipbalm about 3-4 times a day and almost never wear anything else (I have one ghastly lipstick). Fortunately, I have pretty great normal coloured lips haha so they do the job when I have a full face on! I'd be pretty keen on trying something for them tho, I don't like using lipbalm so much and exfoliating makes sense. It will be interesting to read the reviews for this one fo'sho.

I've never even tried/heard of doing this. Could be why my lippy only ever lasts a couple of hours. good read BR

Yeah I agree, it's hard when you're on a rush in the morning. Even 30 seconds ought to be enough, just so your, lip so sticky when you apply your lippy
