St Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub

This scrub is so harsh and abrasive and for a long time I was scared it had permanantly damaged my skin (I used it for ages without realising it was causing my skin problems!) I much prefer chemical exfoliators now and would never buy this again.

Sadly not something I Recommend

My early teens were most definitely an experimental stage when it came to skincare and haircare. A lot of prototypes of "make your own at home" Face masks and hair masks were done at the time. And it was my time to explore drugstore brands (as it was all I could afford :)

However, from what I have learnt through years of research is that a lot of large particle scrubs should not be used for the skin. E.g St Ives (Especially if you have sensitive skin like me)

I must have been 15 when I first bought this product and at the time I was not prone to breaking out. But Man did this lead to some serious acne and rashes. I was heartbroken, especially after seeing the good reviews.

Tips: Many scrubs contain particles that damage the skin by disrupting your natural skin barrier. It is recommended (By research, I personally don't have any qualifications) to use exfoliants that don't contain particles but instead, chemical exfoliants (I recommend Paula's choice, inky list and some of the ordinary products) as they work to deeply clear out pores from debris and skin cells without physically scrubbing away your skins cells. They have done wonders for me. But of course every skin type is different :)

Dont Buy It

Worst thing I did for my skin it made it all dry and sore and within days I was breaking out. It couldve been that I was scrubbing to hard but despite that it still destroyed my skin. Would not reccommend.

Tips: dont scrub hard?

St Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub

I used this for over 2 weeks, it dried out my skin, and I really didnt benefit from it. I have dry/sensitive skin so this didnt really help. i used this atleast everyday and irritated my skin, so I had stopped and used only twice a day.

Tips: If you do use this, maybe use 2 times a week to avoid your skin from drying out and use a good moisturiser to help as well.

Very harsh

I used to use this on a regular bases but found that my skin would always be breaking out. I ended up going to a dermatologist and found out that the apricot shell pieces that are in this were breaking my skin, causing it to re-heal but with dirt etc. under it and so the break outs started. Just way too harsh for my skin. I would not recommend to anyone. Or at least I would say not to use it extremely often.

Exactly! I'm forever trying to explain that to people. Those crushed, jagged shell pieces scratch the heck out of your poor skin.

Never again

I was addicted to this product, it gave me that clean tight feeling after use. That's until I went to have a facial and they remarked about my red aggravated skin ... asking if I was using an exfoliater. When I said what I was using they said throw it in the bin it's way too harsh. Never used it again!

Tips: Don't use on your face if you have sensitive skin.

Be warned...

when I first got this product I thought it was awesome, cheap and really felt like it exfoliated! It wasnt untill I went and got a proper facial when they asked what I used to exfoliate and said the apricot scrub that I learnt the truth.. To say I got told off is mild.. Apprently the small fragments of the peach scrub actually causes little scratches all over your skin and is really bad for your skin. so although it might do what it syas it doe, skin experts DO NOT recommend using it.

Tips: I also got told to never exfoliate in the shower because your pores are too open and to instead use a more gentler exfoliator.

Let Down

I switched to this scrub a couple of months ago, having used it in the past with great success, before that I used their Green Tea scrub but.. that wasn't on special that shopping week and decided I'd go with this one for a change.

Mistake.

Where the Green Tea scrub thrived this one failed. I went from having lovely, smooth, blemish and pimple free skin to flaring up within a week of me using it.

It does have a nice scent to it and feels nice when I'm actually using it, but afterwards, there's no difference in my skin, it doesn't feel smoother or as nice as it did. Maybe they changed the formulation? Maybe I had a faulty batch? I don't know.. :(

St Ives Apricot Scrub

I used to use this scrub every day for years, and I loved it, my face felt smooth, however I did notice the size of my pores getting larger over time. I went to a dermatologist and she advised me to stop using St Ives as is is far too harsh and that was the cause of my bad pores. I haven't used it for almost a year now and my skin and pores have never been better. I know this is the top rated face scrub on the market and it is a really reasonable price but just not worth it in the long run. In saying this though, I do still use it on my body and its perfect for this especially before tannning and I think it also has helped me with in grown hairs!

Tips: Perfect for the body, not so much the face.

Sandpaper in a bottle

This is an amazing exfoliant dont get me wrong, but it should be used for body only!! The beads in this are FAR too rough for your face. Washing your face with a cleanser and flannel if you dont have a gentle exfoliant is far better for your face.
