Good things come in small packages

I have been using Beauty sponges for about a year, prior to that I always used my fingers or a brush to apply foundation and concealer. I have tried so many from $3 Kmart ones to $20 ones from Farmers but I was convinced that I didn’t need to pay $40 for The Original Beauty Blender. After finding a gift set in Australia containing a range of Beauty Blender products it actually worked out to be great value. I was surprised at just how much it swelled up after holding it under running water compared to other sponges. It was also really easy to squeeze the excess water out of it because it is so “bouncy”. It applied my foundation so smoothly and there is definitely a noticeable difference once the foundation has been applied compared to others I’ve tried. I do think that the price is ridiculously expensive and as this brand isn’t readily available in stores, you often end up paying more for shipping as well. In saying that after trying this out and seeing the results I don’t know if I can go back to using a cheaper sponge again. If you have normal skin and foundation sits beautifully on your skin no matter what then you definitely don’t need this product as a decent one can definitely be purchased for under $10 but if you have textured skin then it’s a splurge that is worth it.

Beauty Blender

When applying my makeup I like to use a brush first and then blend in with a beauty blender and most of my previous blenders got thrown out after a few weeks as they got worn out quickly. I remember purchasing the beauty blender and thinking this better be worth the price as I was going through different brands of beauty blenders like nothing. The shape was similar to other brands of beauty blenders I have used but the actual beauty blender was holding up to what it claimed and it lasted a lot longer than the cheaper versions of beauty blenders I had used. Even the finished result of my foundation looked smoother. I definitely recommend this product for a smooth blended out complexion.

Good, but pricey.

This is a perfectly fine makeup sponge. It applies foundation seamlessly, and the texture is nice, but it is so expensive when there are cheaper alternatives.

Tips: Wet the sponge completely before wringing it out so it is just damp.

Good sponge

It does what it says it will and does a good job, but can you get cheaper sponges? Yes, are they just as good? Yes (IE the K Mart ones)

Great Product

Both dry and wet the beauty blender has great application of products both from foundation concealer, to powder to blush/bronzer. If you can afford this then it is an excellent tool to apply multiple types of makeup - especially if you are using cream products. However, there are sponges that do a very similar job for a lower price point, so if I were to recommend a sponge to a friend the price may put it lower on the list for this reason.

Tips: If you are wanting fuller coverage for your foundation/concealer or cream products use the sponge dry.

One of the best makeup sponges

I love the original beautyblender. I think it's one of the best makeup sponges on the market. The only drawback for me is the price, as makeup sponges can hoard bacteria even if you clean them regularly, and should be replaced fairly often, I think they are too expensive. My other favourite makeup sponge is the Flower Beauty Purple sponge. It's $7-ish and feels/works the same to me.

Tips: WET YOUR SPONGE BEFORE USING IT TO APPLY MAKEUP. Wet the sponge by squeezing it under running water, then wring out any excess water and you'll notice it double in size and become much softer and squishier. This is the best way to use it to apply liquid/cream makeup products to get a flawless blend.

Great little sponge!

Love this little OG! Super bouncy and big once damp. I have tried cheaper ones and they are not always as good and don't tend to last as long.

High Quality Sponge

A great applicator for any liquid or cream makeup product. High quality and very durable this is a great product to add to your beauty bag. Holds moisture well during usage without feeling to damp.

The only downside is for hygienic reasons the reccomended time to use this applicator before throwing it out does make the price quite steep compared to other options out there.

Tips: Using a damp beauty sponge is great to help makeup products mold around dry spots on the skin. When using a dry applicator it can sometimes give an appearance of products "clinging" to dry patches on the skin.

Beauty Blender

I've used this to apply two different liquid foundations, pressed powder foundation, loose powder, and pressed powder blush. Liquid foundation: Does a nice even job of stippling it on but I was only able to get light to medium coverage at best. Even though the sponge was damp it did soak up a fair amount of foundation. It did leave tiny little dots in my foundation application or sponge prints for lack of a better description but they were way less noticeable than finger strokes if I had applied it with my fingers or a lousy foundation brush. The rolling motion to blend it didn't seem work as it either got the application that was setting damp or left sponge prints. I did find the point end useful for getting in corners and dabbing a dot of foundation on pimples and blending it in. It probably would've worked better if I had used a concealer since you don't get full coverage applying foundation with this sponge. Overall though it was a better streak free finish than my previous experience with a lousy brush or my fingers. With pressed powder foundation: I used it dry. It does give a more full coverage look to your foundation and definitely works better for getting in the corners of your eyes and nose better than a traditional flat sponge that comes with compacts. I had better success using the pointy end to dot an extra layer of foundation over pimples and blemishes, no sponge marks either. Can look a bit cakey depending on how much you layer on but I just dusted off the excess with my kabuki brush. With loose powder: I used dry it to stipple on my Antipodes Mineral Finishing Powder on top of my liquid foundation and it gave it a nice easy streak free even finish. I would still recommend using a kabuki or powder brush to lightly dust off any excess. But I would say it applies it better than a kabuki in my opinion and I can stipple more on to areas that need more loose powder. I used the side to stipple some on top of my blush since Antipodes' mineral powder can give a subtle highlight. The point also reached well under and over my eyelids to prep for eyeshadow and to set my eyeshadow application. I probably will more likely use it to apply loose powder rather than foundation in the future. With pressed blush: I would have used it damp if I had a cream blush but since I have powder blush I used it dry. I stippled on my blush and then sort of blended it in with the sponge and it mimicked the look of a slight healthy flush so well in fact it was the look I was always trying to get but couldn't with a brush. I dabbed a bit of loose powder on it to set it and it was gorgeous. The look stayed put all day even though I was doing active work in 40 degree heat. I swear every time I went to the bathroom that day I spent at least 20 seconds gazing in the mirror at my perfect gorgeous flushed cheeks, it wasn't more pink as the day wore on and it didn't fade either. This and loose powder is probably my favorite use of the beauty blender.

Tips: I do find it a bit of a hassle to wash after every use that being said it only takes a few minutes to do and it's texture makes it easy to ring out all the water and soap. It does take a while to dry so I recommend giving it a good squeeze and then another with a towel with a face towel around it and then putting it in the hot water cupboard to shorten drying time. Also I find it takes a long time to dry so if you want to use it daily I recommend you have at least two. The pink dye can run when you wash and wet it so use either kitchen paper towels or a facecloth that the dye won't show up on to wring it damp before use it and after you wash it or you can get the white one. I have a small bottle of the beauty blender cleanser since I got the travel set but I guess baby shampoo would do the trick since the cleanser can be expensive. My partner saw it drying on my dresser and ask what it was and I told him it was a makeup sponge and he said it was cute which is a first since most of my stuff he doesn't have a comment on.

Flawless.

The Beautyblender sure did do what it said it would! I love that after each application, the beautyblender never fails to give me a flawless face! I use the Beautyblender to apply liquid foundation and BB cream, the smaller ends allow me to access hard to reach area easily. The sponge itself is very soft and looks pretty in pink. The only annoying thing about the Beautyblender is the washing after! If the sponge isn't that expensive, I would buy one, use it then chuck it away to avoid the cleaning.
