Nail Shapes

I spent my weekend making a display for my wall of 10 different nail shapes ... It’s not perfect, but it’ll do. The first 8 are made from plastic tips, the last two (edge & stiletto) are sculpted with acrylic. The edge nail has a raised ridge that runs up the middle, kind of like a roof or two sides of a triangle ... it’s hard to describe, maybe Google it.

That's more nail shapes than I thought there were. My all time faves are squoval and round.

Super informative thanks. I had no idea about the cuticle shape and suiting a specific tip shape. I'd never consider edge or stiletto, just not my type but I can appreciate the different shapes.

There’s no set rule when it comes to nails shapes, it’s all about personal preference, but if you’re unsure of what would suit you best look at the shape of your cuticles. A rounded cuticle area generally suits round, oval or squoval tips. A flatter cuticle area suits square and squoval. Short fingers can look longer and more slender with oval or almond shaped nails. The top row of shapes in this pic are usually done on natural nails, the bottom row is done on enhancements (overlays or extensions), as those shapes weaken the side walls of the nail and can cause nails to weaken and split, while Edge & Stilletto can only be achieved through sculpting.

I don't know what actually suit's me I just usually go for squoval at the salon. I'm wearing glue on nails atm and they are almond, love the shape. Unfortunately I am lazy and have no patience so never file or shape my nails.

I love the look of squoval nails but I wear my nails more oval, purely because that’s the way they naturally grow and it suits my fingers better than square or squoval.

Squoval is my favourite. What's yours?
