After 10 years on the pill, I decided to stop taking it in December 2021. For the first time in my life I now have deep cystic acne along my jaw, neck and chin. It is painful to touch, feels hot and inflamed and is bright red.
I knew this was a potential outcome of stopping the pill, but has anyone experienced this? How did you cope and/or cure your acne? I know there are no miracle cures, but I would really love to hear other people's experiences <3

Acne Help!

Oooh cyctic acne hurts sooo much, I have had it alot of my adult life on my chin particularly. Some things that really helped me were cutting back on dairy (I havent given it up, I eat cheese and dont avoid dairy in baked goods or recipes but I have oat milk in coffee and stopped taking protein powders/shakes that had whey in them which helped alot! I drink a lot of coffee, so that has reduced my milk intake lots!). The combination of niacinamide serum and azeliac acid also seemed to help me heaps as well, I have just started this in the last 6 months and have noticed a big improvement. Im also taking zinc drops in my water each morning, Im not sure if it helps but maybe as its meant to help with healing?!
I hope you find something that helps, I know how miserable it feels when they hurt so much.

I think I had the same as yours Elise, like last November 2021. around my cheeks and chin and it feels hot and itchy. I tried many products in chemist warehouse but didn't work. But finally i found what worked for me. Thought of sharing it to you.
Nellie Tier Tier for teens Mini Series (wash, spritz, and moisture). https://nellietier.co.nz/collections/tier-for-teens/products/tier-for-teens-miniseries This one is very gentle to skin and it was really meant for troubled skin not just for teens. Then my final step in my skincare routine before sleeping is the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5.
Hoping you can find find which will work for you! :)

Update: I have been using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser which has calmed a lot of the irritation. Acne makes me feel dirty (even though I know I'm not!) so I was scrubbing away at my face and using harsh cleansers. This probably led to a continuing cycle of irritation and inflammation.
My doctor prescribed Differin Gel (retinol). The many online blogs/videos/clinical info sheets all say retinol will make the skin worse before it gets better. Hopefully it will give some eventual relief, but I'm sad I couldn't find a way to balance things out myself. The post-acne scars and hyperpigmentation are already very evident, so I have accepted that this is just my new face now.
