What is the difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant?

Hey, does anyone know the difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant? I googled this on the website and it says that an antiperspirant contains aluminium salts which block the pores and can lead to cancer, whereas a deodorant neutralises the odour.

An antiperspirant will actively prevent sweating, while a deodorant will just disguise sweat odour. An antiperspirant deodorant will do both.

Hi ladies

The urban myth regarding the link between Aluminium salts used in Anti Perspirants and cancer is generally found to be exactly that.

If you wish to read more, a very good site to access is that of the Cosmetics, Toiletry's and Fragrance association. They have an excellent section which explores a number of commonly used ingredients in beauty products and separates facts from myths (supported by links to reference papers).  You can access it here.

What's in my cosmetics?

Okay that's a relief. It's good to know it is a myth. I've looked at the site reference you gave too, found it really useful, an excellent source for explaining jargon as well. Thanks so much BR!
