Good but not great

I was quite excited to try this micellar water as I am a huge fan of Garnier Micellar water and use it daily in my routine to remove my makeup and cleanse my face. When I saw this particular type is for oily skin I was even more excited.

Unfortunately it seems my makeup is too stubborn for this type of micellar, it was great on my face but my eye make up took a significant amount of rubbing to remove on cotton pads and after 3 soaked cotton pads I still wasn't overly happy with the result and definitely noticed the panda eyes in the morning. I was excited also because I have oily skin however I found this to be overly drying when used morning and night and noticed a lot more flaking than usual. After 3 days of struggling to remove my makeup I reverted back to my Garnier Micellar in Oil at night and began using this water to cleanse and tone my face in the morning and I have found it much more effective when it does not have to fight with makeup and my skin was visibly cleaner and found my makeup has a smoother appearance and lasts longer throughout the day. For this reason, I think I will repurchase and add it into my routine as a morning step only, so it's not too drying and helps control oil through the day and continue to use the micellar in oil at night.

Tips: Use for cleansing not makeup removal

A great alternative to cleanser

I first tried this cleansing water when I wasn't wearing makeup, only moisturiser and sunblock, to see how much it would remove and I was shocked by the amount of dirt that came out onto the cotton pad. I also tried it one night when I was too lazy to wash my face after wearing makeup, I used a makeup wipe first and thought everything had been wiped off but then I used the micellar water and it removed so much more makeup. It's also a no rinse cleanser and because I was tired I didn't rinse my face or put on moisturiser which I never do, but my skin was surprisingly moisturised. Usually if I don't apply moisturiser after cleansing my skin would feel extremely tight and dry. This is a really great product for when you don't want to go through all the effort of washing your face - especially in winter when it's too cold to be splashing water on your face!

Pleasantly surprised

I have used a micellar water in the past and it caused breakouts, which are very uncommon for me. I decided to give this one a go, only using it in the morning. With a 2 week old newborn at home, this was a great timesaver however, I still used a cream cleanser at night as I didn’t want to dry my skin out too much. I haven’t had a chance to use it as a makeup remover, but I’ve enjoyed it as a general cleanser.

Classic Garnier micellar water

Packaging is the same the other Garnier micellar water products just a nice light blue colour. This one was fragrance free. However it still has a smell, but it's very pleasant. Easily takes make up off, I however have not had heavy foundation or anything on while using this yet.

Tips: Use face pads to apply to face!

Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water

I was excited to see Garnier bring out a version of their micellar water for oily/acne prone skin. I was even more excited to see that I could use it to remove eye makeup as well as being used on the skin, and I was most excited to find that I could actually use it on my eyes without it causing irritation.

As expected, it is the consistency of water. There’s not scent that I could pick up (I had to go back to the bottle to test it, and only found the slightest hint of a scent).

I love that it is non-irritating, making it easy to remove my eye makeup with. I was expecting it to sting my eyes since it’s the formulation for oily skin, but it didn’t which was great. It’s nice not to need an extra eye makeup remover.

I find the product is best for days when I’ve only worn light makeup (such as just a tinted moisturiser) or no makeup, or to use before a cleanser. I tested the micellar water on a day I was wearing a full face of heavy makeup, and ended up using six cotton pads and it still wasn’t fully removed.

I also like using it on a bare face before applying a face mask, to make sure my skin is clean before applying the mask.

I find the bottle cap is sturdy which is great, and it will last a long time so the price is very reasonable. Depending how much is put on the pad, it can leave a slight residue on the skin but it disappears on its own and doesn’t leave my skin sticky which is great.

I didn’t see any noticeable improvement in my skin, but since it wasn’t at all irritating (and didn’t make my skin look or feel any worse) I will keep using this version instead of the original formula.

I would absolutely recommend it for removing makeup before cleansing, or for lazy days when you just don’t feel like going through a full makeup removing routine.

Clean and refreshed!

This product was great, leaving my skin feeling well cleansed and refreshed. The formula is very gentle - I often find that products for combination/oily skin can be quite stripping feeling, however, that is not the case with this product. Also, it removed any makeup easily, without the need for harsh rubbing - just a few quick swipes and you're done! I particularly loved this product for quickly going over my face after working out.

Super Easy

The concept of micellar water is great for people like me who may be too tired at night for a whole face routine and just want to remove the days grime and makeup efficiently.

I already use Garnier's charcoal Pure Active face wash, so I'm glad that they have now put a micellar water out too because my skin is oily and prone to imperfections.

I used this product every night and morning for a week; after using my waterproof eye makeup remover. It efficiently and effectively cleaned my skin, but I didnt like the feeling and look of it on my skin. The product claims to mattifie but it just seemed to make my skin look shiny, so it always made me want to wash it off.

Perhaps Micellar water isn't for me but I appreciate that the product worked well at cleansing my face, even if I didn't like not washing it off afterwards.

The packaging is lovely and the size is huge which is great! The 400ml size equates to 200 applications, and the bottle is 100% recyclable.

Garnier PureActive Micellar Cleansing Water Review

I have been using this cleanser for a few days now and it defiantly does what it says.

Firstly, I love the blue of the bottle, a change from its pink counterpart but I liked this as it gave off a fresh feeling. The scent is amazing but not too strong, something I need as I get migraines and some scents can set these off.

I use this micellar water every day after work whether I wore makeup or not. My face can get quite oily and is very acne prone, something that the product advocates and I can say that even in this short space of testing this product, it is now going to be a holy grail for my skin. I dab some into my face halo and wipe it around my face.

This acts as a great makeup remover, removing every inch of makeup. It is also great at remove any oily residue and dirt after a long day at the office leaving my face feeling fresh. It doesn’t dry sticky on the face which is a bonus and leaves my skin feeling soft and fresh. This is a great addition to my face washing routine, and I am more than likely to repurchase once my bottle runs out, the low price point helps a lot with this decision!

Tips: A little goes a long way, so you don’t need too much on your cotton pad/remover.

Sensationally soft and sensitive

I have used lots of micellar waters/cleansers. There are a lot of competing brands and formulations. Every brand has a version. Many irritate my sensitive eyes, even supposedly sensitive/hypoallergenic ones, but Garnier never does. The Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water is lovely and soft on my eyes and the scent is clean/neutral. I use micellar mainly for removing mascara, eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, and matte lipsticks. I feel uncomfortable putting richer cleansers near my eyes and mouth as it would taste awful and may irritate. This Garnier micellar smells neutral (fragrance free) and feels soft. The bottle says it purifies and mattifies but, aside from setting spray and lippy, I don't know how one would judge this from a cleanser. I have combination skin, with oily areas, and my skin felt comfortable post-cleansing with this. The 400ml bottle is great value at $13.99 and you can often find it much cheaper at the supermarket. I would have no issue with $13.99 though- it lasts a long time and is such a premium product. Would definitely repurchase!

Tips: Splash onto a reusable cloth makeup wipe- it will hold the water better, feel softer, and won't end up in the landfill.

Micellar Water Convert

As someone who's always used a gel or foaming cleanser I have been quite skeptical about how Micellar Water can completely cleanse your skin, thinking that it was something you used, like a toner, after washing your face. With this in mind this was exactly how I used the product for the first couple of days, I almost didn't trust it to remove my make up properly and with skin prone to breakouts, especially at the moment, I didn't want to chance going to bed with make up on. Boy, was I wrong! I finally read the instructions and used it properly and am so impressed with it! I found it so gentle on my skin, completely non-drying and it removed my make-up with ease. I did have to hold the cotton wool pad over my eyelashes for a few seconds to totally remove it but it was so gentle on my eyelids that that didn't matter at all- there was no rinsing required either so it would be perfect to take travelling with you too.

Garnier claim that a 400ml bottle will get you 200 uses, it is a good sized bottle and really excellent value for money with an RRP of $13.99 (I saw it in the Warehouse the other day for $10!!) so I'm looking forward to seeing if this is true. The packaging is clear and fresh (exactly how your skin feels after using it) and is 100% recyclable- my kind of packaging.

I would totally recommend this Micellar Cleansing water, the 'oily to combination skin prone to imperfections' was the perfect one for me. It cleansed without drying out my skin and made my skin really dewy and glowy afterwards.

Tips: Just use a few drops, you don't need a lot but you might want to wipe you face twice, just to make sure that you have all of your make up off before bed.
