Great product, just not for me.

I will begin this review by saying that I am fussy and particular when it comes to facial exfoliators. There is a fine line between too harsh and too gentle, and it can be such a satisfying and skin changing aspect to your routine if the right product is found. Currently, nothing beats my Clarins One Step Exfoliating cleanser, which is pricey but lasts forever. I received the Skinfood Exfoliating Scrub in a GoodieBox and decided to give it a try.

Most exfoliators that I have tried have had an even consistency of 'beads' and these make up the bulk of the product. The Skinfood exfoliator however has larger 'beads' scattered throughout a thick, creamy formula. The thickness of the products means that it can be moved over my face easily without slipping between my fingers. I did find the beads scratchy, perhaps because they are natural. The exfoliator feels like certain parts of my face are being scratched and harshly exfoliated, whilst other parts are simply being cleansed.

I take a lot of interest in my skincare and as I am treating acne scarring exfoliating is an important aspect of my skincare. Therefore, I won't be continuing to use the Skinfood exfoliating scrub, I will be passing it onto my partner instead. For somebody that isn't quite so fussy, or places value on natural based skincare, this would be an affordable purchase that can be picked up from the supermarket.

A good change

Hi, I used the old packaging Skinfood scrub and as I have read in many of your reviews, I felt like it lacked the grit. I have now been using the new Skinfood scrub for 3 weeks and it has that grit that I was missing on the other one, they have incorporated walnut shell and you really feel your face soft after, it is really good!

Tips: I use it at night time, twice a week, before going to bed and after the scrubing I use the Skinfood nourishing moisturiser. My face feels fantastic ;)

Another Win for Skinfood

Skinfood products are slowly taking over my bathroom! I really liked this exfolianting scrub, but I had put off buying it for a little while due to a couple of other reviews. However this is an example of what doesn't work for some, works for others :) There is barely any fragrance (which I love because, 1: I have incredibly sensitive skin, so heavily perfumed face products usually means my skin will react badly to them, and 2: My last exfoliating scrub was an amazing product EXCEPT for the fact that I hated the smell! To the point where I only used it a few times before giving up). Secondly, the beads in the scrub aren't as big as some others. But I like that. It still has that nice gritty feel of a good exfoliant, but is gentle enough for sensitive skin like mine. Way to go guys, I'm in love <3

Tips: A little goes a long way! I put too much on the first time I used it and it took me forever to wash it all off. Less is good.

Rough and Waxy

This thick, gritty paste comes in an easy-to-use flip-top squeeze tube and has a very subtle lime scent.

Comparing this product to my usual facial exfoliator, I found the paste to have quite large exfoliating particles and was quite rough on my skin, although it left it feeling smooth and soft. One thing I didn't like about this product was that it left a waxy feel on my skin after rinsing and as I have naturally oily skin, this wasn't very pleasant.

Because of the waxy residue and harsh exfoliating particles, I would not purchase this product again, but I would recommend it to others, as it's just a matter of personal preference whether you like the feel of it on your skin or not.

This could possibly be a great exfoliator for those with dry or combination skin types, as the waxy feeling I experienced could be from the sweet almond oil and may help to lock in moisture.

Tips: It works great as a body exfoliator, not so good as a facial exfoliator.

Scrub-a-dub-rub

Face scrubs have always made me cringe, It reminds me of when we would go to the beach as kids and we rubbed sunscreen on ourselves, there was sand mixed in with the sun screen, sunscreen+sand= scrubs, and it took me a long time after that to even look at face scrubs let alone put them on my face.

I like how Skinfood has a simple packaging for each of it's products, it's normally white and fresh looking but I need to be 100% sure on which one I pick up incase it's the mud masque instead of the exfoliating scrub.

Squeezing this scrub onto my hands is very thick, the beads are large and rubbing this into your face isn't as bad as I imagined it to be. I like to apply this in large circular motions before going in with small circular motions working on my nose, chin and forehead.

I'm surprised with the smell of this as it smells really good, I am not a lime fan but it's very subtle and sweet, there's a hint of aloe Vera which I'm a big fan of, all the smells make a really good scent together.

Rinsing this off was harder than most scrubs I have used in the past, it has a waxy texture which makes it hard to remove ,warm water is the easiest way and be careful not to get this in your eyes.

My skin does feel softer and smoother, dry skin is gone and I'm left with a clean replenished face. I don't have the Skinfood moisturiser so I've been using the Love skin in Ti amo which moisturises my skin really well.

This is a good exfoliating scrub but I don't think I will repurchase another one when this one runs out.

Better than most

It has taken me a while to make up my mind about this product. Before I tried it I decided to finish the exfoliator I was using. I am quite particular or fussy when it comes to an exfoliator because I believe that half of those on the market probably do more damage to the skin than good. The packing is simple and convenient. The product is very thick but no problem squeezing it out of the tube and it has a very light lemony/lime fragrance which smells 'clean'. Usually the beads or exfoliating substance is what causes the damage to the skin, but the walnut pieces are not too small (in fact they are fairly large) and I don't believe they do any damage as they are well 'rounded' . The exfoliator leaves the skin feeling squeaky clean. It does not leave that tight dry feeling which is great. Yes I am impressed as it is very affordable and it appears to do the trick.

Tips: I use a small quantity on my knees and elbows (the driest patches) when in the shower and then apply moisturiser and have found the dryness has disappeared.

Love this product!

I recently received this in the Beauty Review beauty box and was a lil unsure of how I would like it due to almond in it. But I absolutely love it! The smell is amazing and the scrub is actually gritty!! I Prefer gritty in scrubs and get frustrated when you buy a product thinking yay its a exfoliator and its got the tiny lil beads that do nothing on ya face. Tho I have used Skinfood products before I find the packaging quite plain so its easily missed on the shelf when buying a new product! The fact that's its a natural product and hasn't got the added junk in it, I definitely will be purchasing again when I run out

Skinfood does it again

When I saw in the BRBB that quite a few people got this product I really wanted to purchase this. I received the Cleanses All Cleanser in the BRBB so I picked this up the next time that I went to the supermarket. The Skinfood products are all very reasonably priced around $10 so it doesn't hurt the bank too much to pop one of these into your trolley every now and again.

The packaging for this is very simple and doesn't feel cheap at all which is nice. It is in a white tube with a flip top lid at the bottom. I love the skinfood logo in green, so modern and cute. The tube is squeezy so easy to get all of the product out.

The product itself is a thick cream with the exfoliating 'bits' in it. I really like that the bits are walnut shell so are really natural and you don't have to worry about them getting into the eco-system. The scent is quite nice and I really like the lime in it, quite refreshing. Nothing about this feels cheap. I like this a lot as you can decide how exfoliating you want it to be by how much you scrub it into your skin. Once you wash this off it doesn't leave any residue, makes your skin feel really nice and clean. I really like that it doesn't make your skin feel stripped.

Overall I am extremely impressed with this product, and I can't wait to try more from the Skinfood range. Thanks BR for introducing me to it.

I am so impressed with Skin Food

So this was a product i picked up in the latest beauty vault, after i had received the cleanser in the March BRBB.I have to admit, i just wanted to get it so i could use this in conjunction with the cleanser, and the mud mask which i already own, just because i like trying products that are meant to be used in conjunction with each other.

The exfoliating scrub comes in the same packaging as the majority of the skin food products. A white soft plastic, squeeze tube. It has a flat flip top lid, so this product sits nicely pretty much anywhere. It has a simplistic design, just the white tube, with the green skin food logo, and a little bit of writing.

The exfoliating scrub is lovely. It has a slight fresh citrus smell to it, which i love. The scrub it slightly thick, and holds it shape nicely. Its a slight cream colour, and is speckled with tiny exfoliating walnut pieces, which i think is awesome. Its amazing that skin food uses an exfoliator that won't harm the environment.

This scrub is easy to use, Because its thick its easy to apply onto your face without getting lots of fall out, and its easy to scrub over your skin. It is gentle, but exfoliates well, and you really can control how much of a scrub you get. I use warm water and a flannel to wash this off, and my face just feel so soft and smooth.

Probably my biggest positive about this product is the fact that is does not dry out my sensitive skin. I am so impressed, so yes i will be repurchasing this item.

I know, i think it is such a great exfoliator, with such a small price tag. Plus i love how it has walnut shell for the exfoliator. No more plastic micro beads going into the sea because of me!

Exfoliatingly good

Skinfood is a New Zealand brand that I became aware of through my cousin using it. When I received it in my Beauty Box, I was happy to try it.

It came in a box with the skinfood labelling on it. I like these green tear drops that represent this brand. This bottle is a 100 ml. It sits on itself. The lid is easy to open. The exfoliating scrub is white with brown bits through it. The scent of it remind me of kiwifruit and lime. It has a zesty fresh scent. The texture of is creamy with small bits making it feel textured.

I like to use this this scrub when I'm having a shower. I use it on my face, neck and body. When I applied it , it covered my body well. It felt like this scrub is cleaning my skin. I used about two to three pumps of it to cover my whole body. I alternate it depending on how my skin is. My skin is drier on my legs than it is on my body. My face is a combination between dry and ance prone. I was surprised that my skin wasn't dried out from it at all. I also tried it to help remove make up and it did an excellent job.

Overall its made from natural ingredients which is a plus. Another great product from a New Zealand based company. I think price wise it's affordable to buy. I have purchased more of this from countdown on other occasions. One bottle lasted me a little over a month with daily use. Was a nice addition to the beauty box, I did enjoy using it.
