Would Only Buy if Desperate

After coming off non-applicator tampons as I was sick of having to get my hands involved and not finding it very hygienic or easy I decided to give these a go.

They aren't very discreet so I can't really just slip one into my hand when going off to the bathroom at work. I also don't like the cheapness of the cardboard applicator. It just makes it a little difficult to insert and makes it a bit harder to push up into the bit that releases the tampon.

The tampon itself is odd and fairly long and slim which could be quite intimidating to younger girls. They did what they were supposed to so I don't have any issues there but just can't get over the packaging. I will not repurchase.

I just can't get my head around these. ..

. . .or the actual body part they're used for.

I've tried Tampax Tampons several times, and given them up in favour of the non applicator types.

I don't know if it's the applicator or my own 'inner angles' at fault, but the way they're shaped doesn't work for me. I find the applicators are unwieldy and odd. There is also the extra waste aspect, which seems unnecessary. I find that the tampons themselves are absorbent, but that they expand unevenly, allowing leaks to pop through, and making them uncomfortable to remove. They also seem to drop little bits of fluff where you don't want little bits of fluff left behind.

I also find these really indiscreet - they're much larger than the non-applicator types and much harder to quietly pop into pocket or handbag.

The packaging appears to not have changed in years, and - contrary to competitors - they don't seem particularly interested in innovation.

They're not completely unusable, they just are an absolute last resort for me. I would never buy them again, but if that's all there was available I would use one for the moment until I could access the type that suit me better.

Good for beginners

Tampax's applicator tampons were the first tampons I used when my period started as a teenager. My mother purchased them for me and as a beginner I found them easy to insert when I was just getting used to the idea. From what I remember the applicator was quite long so it was a bit awkward to use and unlike non-applicator types they're pretty bulky to carry around.

I found them fairly comfortable to wear and they did the job but I wouldn't purchase this particular type again. I would purchase them for younger girls just getting used to the idea.

Tampax Tampons - Regular and Super

I use these each month and absolutely love them. So easy to use. My periods are very heavy so I use the Super at the beginning of my period and then the regular one a couple of days later. So having these different sizes is perfect.

Tips: It is easier to open from the end of the applicator and not the tampon end.

Tricky Tampons

I tried Tampax Tampons several times over the years, and they have been around for many years.

They are as easily accessible to purchase to approximately the same price as all other tampons in the same size and pack size. They come in a box and are individually wrapped.

The difficulty for me was that I could never get the hang of the applicator. I even tried removing one from the applicator to use manually ( so to speak), but still without success. I found this suprising as a lot of my friends swore by them and liked the applicator because the tampon can applied without touching it.

Otherwise the tampon looked and felt similar to other tampons, and if I'd been able to use them I imagine they would have been as effective as the other brands.

I ended up remaining mostly loyal to my go-to brand (that does not have an applicator).

Tips: I would recommend borrowing one, or a few from a friend and trying them before buying a whole pack, just in case you have the same problem I had.

been using these for years!!

it's a wee bit embarrassing to say but these are the only tampons i use and know how to use. i have tried the regular types but can't seem to get the knack of is lol. my mum got me into them when i was a teen coz i was never able to swim in the summer, and i use them ever since. I don't want to gross everyone out so I'll just stop there and say they are bloody brilliant (no pun intended)

freedom

I love the freedom I get from tampax. Not only is it readily available from most stores but it allows me to continue doing all the activities i normally would with all the freedom from worrying about leakage.

Applicator tampons

I have not re tried these for years as when i did the only good thing about them was the applicator because when the tampon came out it dudnt keep its shape like libra and carefree and other brands. The tampax rampon looked like several cotton balls or a handful of toilet paper scrunched up I am not joking. I decided to steer class ar because was worried about bits of the tampon hreakung off and being left behind in there like leading to an infection not saying this happened hut that was my concerns and so as much as the applicator is easy i have not re purchased these again.

My personal faves

These are my preferred brand and type of tampons.

Love the applicator for ease of use and I haven't seen any other brand that offers an applicator.

I've never had any embarrassing leaks using these tampons alone (I know some people add a light winged pad because other tampon brands have let them down in the past) even when swimming.

They are more expensive than the non-applicator varieties however by buying several packs at a time but only when I see them on special I can minimise that price difference and indulge my brand preference.

Tips: It's already been said but: they're individually wrapped and easiest to open and handle from the applicator end.
