18 years and counting.

Gosh. Writing that title made me feel old.

Once I got sick of feeling like a pillow was stuffed in my knickers I asked my mum about tampons. She used Tampax and so that was what I used. I love that the applicator means I'm not having to get too up close and personal with myself during Aunty Flow's visits. Also I've never had any leakage, which is a bonus.

The only downside is that they don't come in a pretty portable pack, but I'll take ease and comfort any day over flashy and fiddly (let's just say I strayed to the 'other' kind once in an emergency situation and it was a debacle - no wonder I'm a ballet flats and not a stiletto kind of girl!)

Tips: If you just happen to have a hand fumble moment and the applicator comes loose before you insert, make sure that when you put it back together the cord isn't caught between the applicator cardboard bits or you'll risk the whole thing, cord and all, being inserted - which can be quite difficult and awkward to remove!! (Not talking from personal experience or anything .......)

Tried but not always trusted...

These used to be my tampons of choice before other brands started making applicator tampons (e.g. Libra, U). I liked them at first and found them easy to use and reasonably anti-leak. Now, however, I feel as though they leak quite a bit and don't seem to be very soft once expanded so removal can be a bit painful. I'm not sure any tampon could be 'anti'-leak', but feel other brands offer more confidence when it comes to leaks. I also don't really like the cartridge very much and find the cardboard can be a bit slippery to hold on to when compared to the plastic applicators of other brands, making it difficult to get the tampon in the right place. I also had a bad experience once where the whole box of tampax tampons I bought were 'cut' lengthways down the middle so once they were inserted and you attempted to pull them out the string came away leaving the tampon inside - I'm sure this was a once-off and I did notify Tampax, but it really shook my confidence with this brand. When I'm buying something that goes inside my body, I like to be certain I can get it out again! In all honesty, I much prefer other brands of applicator tampons.

Does what they say they will

I've always used applicator tampons as I find them a lot easier and cleaner to insert and these are a good benchmark for what tampons should aim to be. As long as you are using the correct absorbency for the stage of your period, you shouldn't have a problem with leaks as they fit well.

The cardboard applicators work well and allow you to easily position the tampon where it needs to go and the string is thick and strong so they are easy to pull out unlike some other brands.

They are a bit bulkier to store in a bag than the non applicator ones or other brands versions of applicator ones, but I don't find this to be too much of a problem.

They are also a decent price and I will continue to repurchase them.

Cardboard applicator

I have been a user of Tampax’s applicator tampons for a long time. I have a light flow, so this review is for the Regular tampons.

I prefer tampons with applicators because I find them easier to use, but they are not always the easiest to find. I have stuck with Tampax because they are affordable, and nearly everywhere stocks them. Tampax’s Regular packs come in cardboard boxes of 20. The Regular comes in a blue and yellow branded box, with the tampons wrapped in individual yellow plastic wrappers, so you know what strength they are when they are out of the box. Each pack comes with instructions for beginners on how to use and insert tampons, as well as warning advice regarding Toxic Shock Syndrome.

The tampons themselves are cotton, and the applicator and tube are both made of cardboard. In the past I have found these tampons slightly difficult to get started as the cardboard tubes have a tendency to stick together. I have found the best way to avoid this is to give the applicator tube a little twist, and then just a tiny push, so the tampon breaks slightly through the spokes on the top of the cardboard tube, before I begin insertion. After I do that, I have no problems with the applicator tube sticking, and I can easily push the applicator tube all the way inside the tampon tube.

The tampons are comfortable once inserted. The absorbency of these tampons is good. I have never had any problems with leakage while wearing these. They are easy to remove. Altogether an easy and convenient option if you are after applicator tampons.

Love the applicator

These are really good tanpax with the applicator. Good for general periods. They are more expensive then no applicator tanpons. I think these are great for first time users to get into the swing of things. It’s feels so much cleaner using the applicator too. Would use again old school and reliable

Used to be my favourite

These were my favourite applicator tampons for years and years!! However, as I got older, the cardboard started to too easily bend a bit and catch me on the way up if I wasn't super careful. Ouchie! So I have had to change to the plastic type. Another brand. But I just saw, when I searched Tampax on here, that they do a plastic version too, called 'pearly'? So I may well give them a go. I can only use tampons on heaviest days now I am older, too hard to insert or pull out otherwise. I will always prefer to use applicator tampons, even though I wish the waste could be less, as it is much more hygienic, especially if you're on the go!!! I will never use a non applicator tampon for this reason.

Tips: Be careful the make sure the cardboard opening, where the tampon is inserted out of, does bend out at all.

Tampax Tampons

When I first started using tampons these were they ones I used. I decided to reach for these due to my dad's partners recommendations and I was also very unsure about how they get put in properly. I find that the packaging isn't very appealing especially for the teenage girl market but I do think that these are great tampons for beginners. These are super easy to apply due to the applicator and they are comfortable. Definitely a reliable tampon and am super impressed how no fluff comes off. However, the only downside of these tampons is they aren't discrete like other brands.

Only for beginners

I found these oddly shaped and very uncomfortable. They say anti-leak but because of the shape they do leak a bit. Great for first time tampon users and those who don't want to get right "in there" with their hands. Hard to adjust once in though so can be uncomfortable.

Tips: Buy non applicator, much more comfortable.

Used to be my go to

But somewhere along the line the absorbency of these changed and the super plus whichwas a must have for heavy flowers like me has become a super and just doesn't do the job and I get maybe an hour max out of a super plus. Best thing I have done is buy a cup will never go back to throwaway products.
