What a girl (or guy) wants

I bought a set which included a lipstick, glass and liner all in mini sizes and I’m pretty sure I paid about $45 through Sephora. It was a lovely light pink shade that would suit most complexions. The formula itself is creamy and very high shine. I think this is probably one of the best glosses I’ve tried although I am a little put off by the price as I tend to go through lip gloss really quickly. The packaging is nice and the applicator is a great shape as it seems to pick up the perfect amount of product. I do have to reapply this after a few hours but my favourite thing about this product is that it doesn’t leave any residue. You know the stringy bits or the line around the inside of your lips that has to be scraped off before a new layer is applied? This is definitely an apply and forget kind of gloss and if I can purchase another gift set or get it on sale I will definitely be repurchasing it and soon as mine has all gone.

Taboo

As luxurious as this product looks and feels it’s borderline more of a nice-to-have rather than a must-have! I bought this from Sephora NZ with high hopes that it would change the lipgloss game but at this stage I would still opt for my go-to glosses by Gerard Cosmetics. That’s not to say I wouldn’t buy more shades, it’s just further (way further) down the list.

For such simple packaging it stands out amongst the rest of the lip products and personally it’s without fault. It comes in a clear curved plastic tube with MARC JACOBS printed on it and a black shiny lid. Out of all the lip applicators I’ve across I would have to say I dislike this one the most. The applicator itself is actually great in terms of application, it’s a flexible sponge tip that is wider than I expected (half of my pinky nail) covering my lips in 1 or 2 swipes. It’s the not the best for precision but I guess with glosses we’re not looking for that so much.

My issue with the applicator happens to stem from the very same things that I actually love about it!? Since the sponge tip is flexible and wide, you’re at risk of breaking it off when trying to put it back into the tube because the entry hole is slightly smaller than the sponge tip. It’s not major; you just have to pay attention not to slam it back into the tube. I would not be a happy camper if it did break off without making use of the $42.

I was caught off guard with the manufactured minty scent. It’s not overpowering but it’s not delightful either, it takes a few minutes to fade away after application. I have the shade Taboo and in the tube, it’s a gorgeous pink mauve shimmer but on my lips it’s an iridescent nude where I can’t detect any pink at all, even when heavily layered. When wore on its own it’s a shimmery light brown so there is some pigment to it.

This particular gloss is more on the sheer side which I don’t mind at all because it still provides a bit of dimension to the lips with the shimmer and has a lovely glistening shine. When you really layer on the gloss you do get maximum shine however “like 30 coats of lacquer”? I think not. My lips stay shiny for a good 3 hours before calling for a retouch. What I love about this gloss is how it feels on the lips – it’s one of the most comfortable glosses, it only has a slight bit of tackiness and it doesn’t slip. I love that it doesn’t dry my lips and at the end of the day I find that it leaves them as they found them – soft.
