It's nice but nothing special

I originally bought painterly as a base for neutral eye looks. It does a great job at covering the discoloration on my eyelids but it creases so quickly and my eyelids aren't overly oily. I find I have to use this with my primer potion which kind of defeats the purpose for me personally. In fairness, these are marketed as an eye colour rather than a primer.

Tips: Use a primer underneath, apply the eye colour and set it with an eyeshadow in a similar colour before applying the rest of your eye makeup.

Beautiful eyeshadow base

I have not had great experience with the metallic paint pots but I absolutely love painterly and layin' low for priming my clients lids. It doesn't crease on oily lids and shadow lasts all day.

Tips: If using as a eyeshadow base, make sure you set it before going in with colour and you'll have no trouble with blending!

Amazing eyeshadow base

I bought this in the shade Stormy Pink after seeing Shaaanxo use it in a tutorial, and immediately fell in love.

First of all, I love the colour! It's perfect for purple smoky looks. The formula is also really good, I've had mine for a few months and it's still as creamy as it was when I first bought it.

I use it as a primer depending what look I'm doing, and all of my powder shadows blend really well over top of it. It dries down really well and doesn't crease, however if you have dry eyelids it will emphasise the dryness.

These come in a really good variety of colours, and I often wish I had more colours that I could use with different eye looks. They're very versatile too, you could use them for eyeshadow or eyeliner among other things.

I definitely recommend these for people who struggle with eyeshadow fading on them because these will almost certainly not fade, and will last a really good amount of time on most people.

Multi-purpose!

Love, love, love!

I purchased this product in Soft Ochre as I was seeking out something that would be a good base and also helpful for just creating more intricate eye looks (e.g. cut crease).

PROS: This is a creamy, blend-able product with a decent amount of product within the pot. Soft Ochre is a neutral, almost skin colour shade so it's fantastic as a base and I've used this multiple times to carve out a really clean line for cut creases etc. and it's worked like a dream. It's incredibly easy to work with and it dries quickly but not too fast. It's also adds to the longevity of the eye shadow and when I used this as a base my eye shadow lasts forever!

CONS: I truly haven't found any cons for this product!

CONCLUSION: Fantastic all rounder, it can be used for different purposes/create different looks on the eyes. It's a top quality product.. Easy to use... can't beat it!

Pot of Gold

I had heard a lot about MAC paint pots, however did not try one until I had a makeover at MAC for my 21st birthday and purchased it in the shade Quite Natural. After buying it, I was questioning my decision as I didn’t know how much I would realistically use it for what I paid for it. Now I cannot do my make up without it! It makes a huge difference to the longevity of my eyeshadow and makes it more pigmented! I put it over my entire lid, and use it alone with a small amount of shadow on my inner corner and leave it (for a natural look) or I do eyeshadow over top of all of it. It’s great if I’m in a rush, as it saves me from spending more time blending more eyeshadow and looks really good as it’s a brown colour.

It’s a really creamy, smooth formula and applies onto my eyelids really nicely and blends out easily. It makes blending eyeshadow pretty easy too and shadow doesn’t budge or smudge and it sits better on my lids. It also minimises shadow fall out for me. It’s also buildable, so I sometimes make it darker on the outer corner if I’m not applying any shadow there. It can be applied with a brush or fingers, however I prefer my finger as I feel it spreads more easily and blends better. I have used it every time I apply my make up for almost a year now (although I don’t wear make up daily) and there is hardly a dent in it, so I feel it will go a long way. I have also found that a little goes a long way and it doesn’t take much to cover the eyelid. It’s a small pottle and pretty light so it’s super easy to pack and to store. I like the glass bottom and plastic lid, the glass gives a good weight and feel and it’s comfortable to hold. I like the classic Mac packaging, its clean and simple and of good quality. Overall, I am really glad I got it, as I use it every time I wear make up. It seems pricey for what it is, but it’s of such high quality and it’s a cemented part of my make up routine that I would buy it again. It would also last a long time, so in the long run it’s worth it. There’s also a large colour range as well which I like. Def love this product!

Tips: I prefer applying this with my finger and it can be built up :)

Current staple

I have suuupper oily eyelids and nothing could ever 100% prevent my eyeshadow from creasing. After buying this Paint Pot I was disappointed to learn it alone couldn't withstand my oily lids, but after having it for a year I've now finally found the best way to use it!

I have to use the NARS Pro Prime eyeshadow base underneath the Paint Pot, but neither primer will do the job on its own, so as long as I use the two products in conjunction with each other my eyeshadow literally stays crease proof all day! Normally my shadows would crease within the hour, so it's a huge improvement!

I have the shade Layin' Low, which on my fair skin is a light warm brown shade. I went to the MAC store with the intention of getting Soft Ochre but the sales assistant assured me Layin' Low was lighter and I'd love it more? It certainly is not lighter! But it's a great shade to wear if you don't feel like wearing eyeshadow - it tricks the eye in to thinking you are! But it also doesn't really change the colour of eyeshadows if you want to wear eyeshadow over it. I've since been back to MAC and have realised Soft Ochre is too light for what I'm after so I want to try Groundwork next - I understand it's still a light brown, but is more of a cooler shade.

After a year of frequent use I'm still only about 1/4 of the way through my pot, and the formula is just as creamy as it was on day one. I use my finger to apply, as the application looks patchy whenever I try to use a brush. It loses points for not making my shadow crease proof on its own, but I love how it cancels out veins/discolouration on the lid and I think it's an awesome little investment, especially if you don't have oily lids!

Tips: If it doesn't work well alone - experiment with another primer!

My holy grail cream shadow/primer

I first bought painterly to use as an eyeshadow base. It's lasted years (gross I know) but hasn't dried out or changed texture, applies like a dream (I usually use a finger) and makes shadows last much longer than to bare skin. I now own groundwork too, which is a great neutral to wear on the lid alone, or as a bronze eye look base. I have camel coat, which is a taupe grey shade, which I don't use quite as often. I much prefer these to other cream eye products like the maybelline eye tattoos - the price is worth it for the quality and amount of product.

Tips: Great worn under other shadows as a lid primer, or alone for a basic eyelid colour

LOVE

I use this everyday! I get super oily eyelids and without this, any eyeshadow I use gets all smudged and gross!

I use this everyday as a base for my eyeshadows, and I use it to create a smokey eye. It's an amazing base for when I want to go a bit more glam. Eyeshadows stay all day and night and are so much more vibrant on top of the paint pot.

Tips: Use as a base under eyeshadows to make them stay all day and night.

Use along the eyelash line and smudge to create smokey eye.

MAC Paint Pot

MAC Paint Pot makes for the perfect eyeshadow base! I have re-purchased numerous times now and automatically reach for it to even out my lids before applying eyeshadow, this helps to even out the lid and ensures a longer lasting eyeshadow wear.
