This was the product I was most excited to receive as I use frequently skin BB cream so the prospect of a BB cream for your hair sounded amazing.
The product promotes the following 10 promises: Helps prevent split ends, strength against breakage, smoothes, moisturised feel, shine, manageability, detangling, frizz control, heat protection and softness.
Putting it to the test from day 1, I applied 3 pumps (my thick hair needed an additional amount to the recommended 2 pumps) this formula is a clear opaque colour that is quite creamy in texture, not sticky or leaving any residue on you or your hair. For the first couple of days I suffered some really bad hair days for frizz breakouts so this BB crème didn’t help at all for that. It need however give my hair shine and softness all during the trial week. Aside from the first couple of days my hair got more manageable and I did see a reduction to tangle in my curls. I can’t comment on the heat protection as I don’t use any tools that create heat such as hair dryers, curling tongs, or straightens on my hair at all to be able to say if this BB crème provides any protection against it. I had noticed though that I wasn’t suffering for as much hair loss at time of cleaning then I normally do so I put that down as the strengthening against breaking agent at work. I haven’t suffered from split ends in over 6-7 years now so I also cannot comment on its promise to help prevent them, all I can say is that it wasn’t harsh and drying so I think it definitely hasn’t created any new ones. It did seem to weigh my hair down and I lost a lot of curl definition and bounce but I feel this is through making my hair softer, it seemed to make it more fluffy which in turn made it heavier, resulting in my curls just lying flat and creating a bit of frizz from this. However, on day 4 after I used a treatment the BB crème seemed to have a different effect and didn’t make my hair so fluffy and soft so the curls laid lovely and continued to do so for the next 3 days.
So I can’t really see what the BB crème actually did as I feel the shampoo and conditioner I was also trialling affected my hair by making it softer as well, so the BB crème was kind of a mute point. I still needed to apply my regular oil to the tips to prevent the major frizz breakouts that you get from overly dry hair so the BB crème was just an added step that I don’t I’d bother purchasing again as I really never saw any great results to convince me too.
This is better than the previous BB cream I have tried – a Schwarzkopf one which is thicker in texture. The Thinner texture is more practical for everday non-wash day use – it is easy to rub some into my palms and apply on non-wash days for a conditioning boost which helps smooth any frizz and defines my curls on a curly hair day (au natural), or if my hair is straight it doesn’t make it curly which is a bonus as the thicker hair BB cream I have tried is not ideal for use on straightened strands as it will activate my curls.
Nice and lightweight – smells amazing. The bottle is huge too. Only gripes are the pump – it is fine for when you are using on wet hair as it dispenses the right amount but on dry hair I only need a tiny bit and on these days it pumps out way too much which is wasteful. I end up rubbing it into my hands to use up the excess – it actually makes a divine hand cream. I am also not a fan of parabens and this product contains them which is a bit disappointing as Pantene has started removing them from most of their other products.
Tips: Less is more with this product!
