The Loreal extraordinary 1001 uses hair mask was just what my hair needed for some deep conditioning.
The hair mask comes in a 300mL plastic tub with a screw off lid. The packaging is attractive and alluring with a 'fresh' design. I find hair masks that come in tubs like this with a screw off lid can be awkward and difficult when using in the shower with slippery hands, but perfectly fine if applying prior to a shower.
The consistency of the hair mask is very thick, creamy, and holds its form. It's like a luxurious body moisturiser but for your hair. The fragrance is delicious and smells like a combination of coconut and sweets.
Application of the hair mask relies on unscrewing the lid, and scooping out required amount with hands, being careful half of it does not go down the drain of the shower. Like I said above, the application can be more difficult in the shower, but the benefit of the extraordinary 1001 uses hair mask is you can use it so many ways, including application prior to getting in the shower.
Once opened, the packaging claims the mask will last for 12 months, this is a very reasonable amount of time as using the mask about once weekly would last about 2-3 months.
My hair can be very knotty, frizzy and sometimes quite dry. The hair mask is recommended for normal to dry hair. Mostly, I applied the mask onto my dry hair 5 mins prior to having a shower and rinsed out. I did this using the mask entirely on its own and also prior to washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner. Even when I used the hair mask solely on its own, my hair felt like it had been fully washed. This product works wonders for having knot-free hair!! After application, my hair felt soft, knot-free and nourished. The claim on the packaging states 'incredibly soft, shiny, and free-flowing hair.' I agree with soft and free-flowing 100% but less so on the shiny aspect, namely because my hair is curly is hard to tell if it changed shine.
Personally, I would only use the mask about once per week for my current hair condition. At $11.99 per 300mL pot and only applying about once per week, the mask should last 2-3 months which is about $1 - 1.50 per use. Compared to other hair masks, I would say this is about the middle of the price market. The aspect that makes this hair mask better than others is how versatile it is as it can be used onto dry hair prior to a shower, a quick leave in mask whilst in the shower, a leave-in whilst styling hair or a leave-in overnight for very deep treatment.
Overall I am really happy with how the hair mask made my hair feel. I will definitely be including this in my hair care regime moving forward.
Would I recommend this? Absolutely, especially if you have hair like me: thick, curly, and a tendency to be dry and/or knotty.
I love hair masks but I never use them because they often require you to use them for 20-30 minutes or even leave them in overnight. No thanks! This hair mask can be used a variety of ways, from 5 minutes before you hop in the shower to during the shower after shampooing. The pot is so big so I didn't hold back and covered every inch of my hair from the ends to the tips and left it on for 5 minutes before I took a shower. I thought I might not experience the full benefits because I didn't leave it in too long but my hair is so unbelievably silky. My flyways usually leave me looking like a baby orangutan or like I've just been electrocuted - it's probably my least favourite thing about my hair - but after using this range my hair was A LOT softer and far less frizzy.
Tips: If you don't have time to sit around in a hair mask for 30+ minutes or leave it overnight, or you're just lazy like me, put it in your hair, put on a face mask (like a 2 in 1 cleanser and face mask that you only need on your face for a few minutes such us the Dr Jart clay masks), brush your teeth then hop in the shower to rinse it all out! 5 minute beauty routine.
