I bought this from The Warehouse as it was $5 for a box. I have really long hair and need two boxes so I usually just get whatever is cheapest. I didn't really have the highest hopes but I thought it didn't really matter since I was only 'investing' $10.I chose the shade black, I have darker brown hair and a couple of greys so I thought that this should work out quite well.
This is just like any other home dye I've used where you have to mix up the active ingredients and then just apply it. I found this did not smell as bad as some others I have used. Sometimes I even have to go outside for fresh air every now and then with others but I had no issues with this one at all. I'm not sure if these packs are bigger than others or they just spread further but one box almost did my entire head so I was really surprised. I did end up using the second box as I still had a few bits to dye but I think if you normally need just two boxes with other dye that you would be able to get away with one box from this range. I had no bad reactions to this dye at all, I wasn't expecting too, so I'm glad nothing happened.
I did leave this on for a bit longer than what it said but only because I lost track of the time. Rinsing out is just like any other dye, this will stain the shower for a few days but every other dark dye I've used has done the same thing. The conditioner this comes with is only ok, I usually love how hair dye conditioners make my hair feel but this didn't really do anything special and it didn't even smell amazing!
I dyed my hair about 8 weeks ago now and I did notice the first few times that I shampooed, that my hair felt super dry. After I put conditioner on it felt fine though but I was a bit worried I'd damaged my hair for a while. The pain in the butt thing with this is that even now, every time I wash my hair, colour will run out. It's not a massive amount but I can definitely tell that the black has faded a lot now and some brown strands are coming through. My greys stayed dyed for over a month, but I know that they don't hold colour as well as normal hair strands.
I'm a bit lazy with hair dying and I usually leave it until I really need it before I redye so it bugs me that this fades away. I'd possibly use this again if I really didn't want to fork out a lot of money but I think I'd rather save for a better dye. If you regulary dye your hair, this could be a perfect cheap product for you.
I love this hair colour, so much so that I always have a back up supply tucked away incase I can't find it (only a few places sell it in NZ) right now I have 6 boxes of it in the cupboard so I won't run out. It is always affordable, easy to apply, doesn't destroy my hair, isn't too stinky/ have those chemically burn your eyes type of fumes and doesn't particularly stain my skin and if you get any stains from this they usually wash off within a day which most colourings will take a week or so for me to fade away (I always use the darkest shades), the best part for me about this colouring is the shade is the perfect super deep blackest brown (my shade Soft Black) which doesn't look un-natural for my skintone as jet black does and has some warm undertones/hints of brown tones in the sunlight. I have been using this 3 years now and use a box each month or so to touch up the roots. Sometimes it is on sale for $5-6 so I stock up when I can. Definitely the best blackest brown hair colour I have ever found and I just love the after colour conditioner that comes with the pack - it smells divine and reminds me of the Revlon Outrageous hair product line which got discontinued in the early 00's!
