The BB cream that unites us all

I have to say I was a little skeptical about the claims of matching most skin tones. I have enormous trouble matching generic foundation or BB cream with my tan olive skin tone with greenish hue undertone. Normally I have to buy several shades and blend them together to achieve what I need. The downsides to this method is heavy caked make up, and sometimes I luck out and look like an Oompa Loompa, or Casper the ghost. This BB cream is lightweight and pigment coverage is sheer enough to compliment and work with my skin tone and the appearance is enough to substitute in place of foundation (or in my case blend of several foundations). The only thing I would mention is that it has been unusually muggy these past few days since I have been trialling this cream my face has been ultra shiny, sweaty and gross. So, I am not sure what the ultimate finish would be like under normal weather conditions but based on my experience I would think this product would be a good all round performer.

I liked the clean light packaging, but being white it would get grubby quite quickly tossed in a make up bag. That might not mean much to most people, but I am a visual person and like pretty things so I would probably be endlessly cleaning the tube to keep it looking smart.

As far as BB creams go. It's on par with most. The colour matching magic is great. But in my experience with other BB creams the available tones are usually limited to one, or two and they perform similarly well.

This cream is more suited for enhancing a natural clean, even and clear skin look. I would recommend it and I can't wait to try it out on a less humid day to see how it wears.

Subtle glow

I decided to get this in the Beauty Vault, after I saw it go up for trial on Beauty Review, and I really wanted to try it.

This BB cream comes in a 50ml tube. It claims to have self-adjusting properties that adjust to match your skin tone. It says it will give you a natural, healthy glow, while feeling lightweight. It also contains SPF 15.

First of all this cream is very easy to use. It comes easily out of the tube, and it rubs easily onto the skin. You do not need to use much product to cover your whole face. It also feels light, but ever so slightly tacky.

I am a very pale lady. When I first apply the cream it looks very orange on my skin, however, the formula does actually adjust as promised to a more natural shade. So like the picture of the woman on the side of the box, I end up with a very subtle hint of colour to my face, which must be the glow they promised!

The main drawback of this BB cream is that the coverage is very sheer. If you are looking to cover up any imperfections, then this will not do it. The box says to apply a second layer for more coverage, but I don't want to do that in case I just look more orange. However, if you have great skin and just want a subtle glow and sun protection, then this is a great product for you.

I have found because of its slightly tacky feeling, that this cream works very well as a base for foundation. My makeup routine now goes like this: primer, BB cream, foundation, and brightening powder. It is really good as a base for my foundation, and for giving me a subtle glow beneath the foundation.

Tips: For extra coverage, use as a base underneath your foundation.

It's a no from me.

I've tried a few different BB creams, as well as a few that claim to have self-adjusting pigments. This is another failure!

Color: this product comes out white, looks kind of like a skin cream. But when on the face, it changes to an orange muddy colour. It doesn't match any of my concealers and I have to be extra careful to get it right up to my ear line so there's not gaps in colour. This would be fine for someone with darker skin tone than mine but just doesn't work for me, even now it's summer.

Smell: a light non-offensive smell that doesn't bother me.

Packaging: I like that it is in a tube. This means you're not scooping the product out of a jar, leading to potential bacteria entry. Comes out of the tube evenly, and I normally squirt some on a clean hand then use a brush from there.

Other pros: the finish is dewy, but definitely not full coverage. I tried this for work and still had some on at the end of the day, so the staying power isn't too bad. It's a good price point, if you're med-darker skin and it works for you. There's a bit of sun protection, but if I was going to be outside for long periods, I would layer it with a dedicated sun screen. It doesn't 'pill' when I've tried it with different skin care products, which is a nice bonus. I've also tried it with different powders and still got a good effect.

Tips: If it's too dark and you're in a pinch, you could just bronze your neck a lot to match.

If you're spending long periods outside, use a sunscreen underneath, getting burnt to a crisp is not safe or sexy!

Nourishing but minimal coverage

The nude Garnier BB cream did what it said- it was very moisturising & provided a VERY natural base! It has a really nice fragrance (I loved it, but if you’re one of those people that prefers their products without fragrance this wouldn’t be for you!). It comes out white, but then blends into a nude colour that matches the skin really nicely!

However, it’s coverage was very minimal, I was having a bad skin week so it really took it for the test, & unfortunately I’d have to say it didn’t really cover my pimples at all. Additionally, the little cover it did offer didn’t last particularly well, I wore it for a whole day over toner & moisturiser without anything else & photographed myself at 3, 6, & 9 hours post-wear & even after 3 hours it had worn off significantly! In saying that, the next day I tested it with concealer over top, powder & make up setting spray & it lasted much better- but personally for me the whole purpose of a BB cream is to not have to wear as much make up- so this method isn’t ideal!

Will I use it again? Yes definitely! Would I buy it again? No, probably not- as I’ve found better BB creams that have offered long lasting coverage & still maintained a natural finish (e.g. dermalogica & Bobbi Brown). Although this is a much cheaper option so that’s great!

Tips: Know that it does exactly what it says- don’t expect more, & if you want a longer lasting coverage apply powder & setting spray!

Smells amazing

I was interested to try this new bb cream and compare it to the normal garnier bb cream. This bb cream is different as the original colour of the cream is white but it adjusts and changes colour when you apply it on your skin. You can see the tiny beads of the micro pigments in the cream. Once I applied this to my face it began to darken and although the shade is slightly on the orange side a bit too dark than what my normal shade is its still passable. It just looks like my face has a nice tan. Just a warning too that it does take a while for the bb cream to oxidise, so be aware that it will still keep darkening.

The texture of this bb cream is smooth and light, similar to a moisturiser. This makes it easy to apply and blend on your skin. I've applied this using fingers and a brush (stipple) and find it just as easy to blend using fingers. This bb cream is hydrating as it says. However if you have dry skin I would still apply your normal moisturiser underneath.

The coverage is sheer to light which is what you would expect from a bb cream. It doesn't provide much coverage and you can still see my acne scars underneath. It feels quite light in your skin, like our only wearing moisturiser. It does smooth out my skin tone a bit and gives it more of a fresh look.

I find that this doesn't last long on my face. I do have combination oily skin which might be why it slips off quickly. Even if I set it with powder it will only last half a day at the most.

I love the smell of this bb cream. It has an almost fruity smell which must come from the apricot oil. I also love that this bb cream has SPF.

Overall I have enjoyed using this bb cream. It gives a light overage while also hydrating your skin.

A bit... orange

I love BB creams. I use them pretty much every day because of the light consistency. I was excited to be picked for this trial but unfortunately I feel a bit underwhelmed with the product.

I have very pale skin and when I put this product on my face it immediately went bright orange. I had to blend and blend, essentially blending it to nothing to try to get rid of the orange colour but the colour still managed to get into my hair line and eyebrows. I also found that this product grabbed a bit to my dry skin patches which is strange for a BB cream.

The product does feel light on the skin and does give the skin a bit of a glow which is nice. The smell is not offensive and the consistency is good, not too oily.

I would consider this product as having very minimal coverage as I had to blend it to essentially no coverage to get ride of most of the orange tinge.

I'm going to keep trying this product to see if there's a way I can make it work better for me. I'm curious if adding moisturiser of shade adjusting drops would make it better for my skin tone.

I think I would recommend this product to someone not as pale as me and perhaps not with dry patches.

Tips: If you can get your hands on a tester before you buy this product, I would really recommend trying it out and seeing if the colour matching works for you.

A dependable product!

And here I was thinking that I couldn’t get a better weightless B.B. cream than the one I have now! Until this little beauty turned up in the mail. It’s amazing how it blends in with your skin colour and hides most of your imperfections after just one application. No one at work knew I had anything on - I’m in absolute love. Everything from the package to the clean off is 100% amazing! I didn’t even need to use anything to apply it, just the tools God gave me, my fingers!! It didn’t feel oily and didn’t leave my fingers feeling sticky, oily and gross. It comes out like a cream and yet looks like a light coating of foundation once you rub it in. I don’t wear much make up so this is perfect For me. I’m in absolute awe of this product and will be sad when it runs out! I hope Garnier never discontinued this product!

One shade does not fit all

I was really excited to trial this product as I've been incredibly curious about the increasing number of products available that claim to match a range of skin tones.

I figured seeing as I'm a neutral palette and a fairly standard shade (mid tone in summer, down a couple shades in winter) I should be pretty easy to match. Boy was I wrong!

This bb cream pulled very orange on me, and ultimately sat about 3 shades darker than my winter tone (so I'm guessing about 1 shade darker than my summer tone). I'll be interested to see if it's a better match in summer or if it goes darker again, but the whole point was for it to match me which it definitely didn't deliver on.

The finish was nice, very natural, although to the point of not covering any but the absolute slightest blemishes - a little more coverage would be welcome.

The application left a little to be desired, too. My favourite thing about bb creams is being able to smear it on with fingers quickly and pretty haphazardly while running out the door, which you can't do with this - applying it too quickly or vigorously makes the product pill under your fingers which looks and feels awful.

Overall, a definite miss for me.

Sad but true

I usually don’t mind a cheap garnier bb cream but sadly I didn’t love this one. It was cheap and readily available which I like as can grab at most supermarkets or the warehouse etc.. but I won’t be doing that again.

I have had luck with garnier so wasn’t too worried but this looks terrible on the skin and the formula itself isn’t that nice to apply. It’s sad as being a bb cream I want easy and quick application. I usually wear a bb every day so to get lumped with this was a shame.

I am having to try and find inventive ways to mix and use it up but I have given up and biffed this one. Usually I mix with a sunscreen but it’s proving too hard as the cream itself doesn’t mix well with the sunscreen.

It left my skin cakey with that I’m wearing lots of make up look which isn’t what I’m after.. a bb cream should be quite flawless and natural this isn’t that so it’s a formula I wouldn’t purchase again. As I was applying it was rolling up and rubbing off under my fingers rather than seamlessly blending in and it gave me a lot of patches giving my skin the orange look.

Sadly I wouldn’t purchase this formula again but I have had luck with some of their other bb creams so not all is lost.

Awful

I bought this product with very high hopes given its claim of matching any skin tone. It was awful. I was immediately bright orange after applying this bb cream and even after it had some time to settle, it was still way too orange/dark for my skin. Not only that, but it was patchy and streaky no matter how I applied it. I gave it as many chances as I could, but the outcome was the same every time. I would never put this on and leave the house.

Although I will add, it seemed to match and blend into my hand semi-well when I tested it there, but it still settled into wrinkles (that I didn’t even know I had on my hand!) and definitely didn’t look natural at all.

Tips: Do not buy this product.
