Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupte Review

After my disappointment with the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipstick I had no intention of looking at anymore “Volupte” anything especially a lipgloss. I don’t believe I ever would have, had my lovely friend overseas not sent me a sample to try. Now I’m not one to splurge on a lipgloss but after a good week of tossing it up I took the plunge. I have no plans on collecting all the shades but I can say I'm happy with this product.

For *gulp* NZD$59 from Farmers there’s no denying that the packaging exudes luxury with the gold lid and silver filigree at the top of the glass tube. I have the shade No. 19 Rose Orfevre and it comes across as a peach pink coral with fine iridescent flecks but is not true to pan on my lips. When I initially saw the flecks in the sample I was not impressed because it just made me think of cheap tacky lipgloss but the combination of colour and fine sparkles is beautiful.

The applicator is a slightly bent diamond shaped sponge tip. I thought it was just a useless gimmick but the slight bend allows it to fit to the shape of your lips so that colour is easily distributed and the pointed edge is perfect for precision - I love it, dare I say, it’s my favourite?! It smells exactly like the Rouge Volupte Shine lipstick, a sweet watermelon scent which doesn’t linger at all.

The pigmentation is decent, being a nude I didn’t expect too much colour pay off and on my lips it looks more peachy nude with fine shimmer. I have to build it up if I want it to be opaque but truthfully it looks better without so many layers of product as the shimmer adds a lovely dimension to my lips. It feels comfortable to wear with just a 'more than average' shine to it, it’s not tacky or drying and it lasts about 3 hours (without eating or drinking) while the shimmer is there almost all day.

My favourite way to wear this is with a fresh face over bare lips or over a brown based nude lipstick, there’s something about the fine shimmers that gives it that extra oomph! As much as I love this lipgloss I can’t say I agree with the price tag, it’s definitely not a must-have but more of if you want to treat yourself. If I was to repurchase I’m more inclined to stick with the nude shades as you can easily pair with more lipstick combinations than coloured gloss.

My first ever YSL product! After lusting after it for absolutely ageeees I was lucky enough to be given this as a present. I'd never have splurged so much on a lip gloss but I didn't have to! Mine is a really soft baby pink color called Rose Orfever. I love the color of it, the pigmentation is awesome. A very thin coat looks even and opaque. It has these tiny glitter specks in it that reflect the light nicely. The texture is quite thick but it's spreadable and doesn't feel overly sticky. The staying power is great, provided I don't drink or eat too much while wearing it. The packaging is my favorite part though. The tube is so sleek and classy looking and the applicator brush is a really cute 'lip' shaped diamond. In love with this at the moment, it's one of those high end products that are totally worth it. If it's on sale I would definitely but more colors.

Im lucky enough to have swapped makeup with a lady that worked for YSL and she threw this is free for me in a bright pink shade. The colour is so intence, very highly pigmented so its best to choose a colour that you love as you will get the best version of it. The applicater is unique and works well to get the product to glide onto were you want it too, helps to keep it "in the lines". Im usually not a huge gloss fan as I hate the texture but this wasnt slicky and lasted a very long time. The bottle is pretty! like all ysl, it reallyu screams expensive and quality. This would have got 5 stars but I found it a little too bright and it stained my lips.
