Revlon Crystal Nail File

I really enjoy using this crystal nail file as it gives a smooth result. It is gentle enough to use on my fingernails and strong enough to use on my toenails.

I also like how long lasting this nail file is. Unlike traditional emery boards that go dull and need replacing, this crystal nail file is long lasting, in fact mine is still going strong over a year later (using it at least once per week).

Tips: Use gentle pressure and avoid a sawing motion as this file is very effective.

A definite no

Thumbs down for me. Firstly the tip is not very fine or sharp so it is difficult to get into the sides of the nails or to clean the nails. It is quite thick so makes filing the side problematic. The first side I tried appeared to be a little rough and dragged on the nail. Not at all similar to an emery board just more like a fine sandpaper. I turned the file over and actually struggled for a while to smooth the corner of the nail which normally would not be a problem. I am actually not sure why but I believe that the 'texture' on the file is not quite correct and also that the file is a little too thick. I realise emery boards are thicker than nail files too, but they are pliable and work really well. No I would definitely not recommend this to anyone, and would not use it again. Tried it twice just in case I wrong the first time, but no - didn't work for me.

Didn't measure up for me

I bought this thinking how nifty it would be to keep in my handbag to whip out whenever I need to tidy up a broken nail. For me this is a frequent occurrence, my nails have to be kept short, clean and unpolished for my work. The first time I used it I found it smoothed my nail effectively, but the surface clogged with nail filings very easily. In fact, by the time I got to the end of the second nail there was a noticeable reduction in abrasive surface. Rinsing it brought no great improvement. seems like a great idea and I am sure there are glass files out there that work like a charm. Until I find one I think I will stick to disposable emery boards.

Tips: Find a 'matchbook' of emery boards which you tear out of the packet, use once and throw away. they are just as easy to carry in your handbag.

Didn't impress me at all

I tried this crystal nail file by Revlon a few months back now and I used it once, once only!!! then threw it away.

Imagine my delight as I stood in the chemist reading about all the wonderful promises of reduced breakages and easier use on colored nails. Got home and that night gave it a whirl whilst watching TV.

Number 1, when I took it out of the packet it felt heavy but a little on the plastic side, more like acrylic. Regardless I started to file my nails (which I must add where polished) and straight away...rip!! the edge of the nail shredded, quite painfully actually so dropped the crystal file and picked up my normal and trusty emery board and tidied it up. I thought that perhaps it was just my technique so tried my larger finger nail on my thumb as its tougher, but no again it ripped into my nail leaving it jagged and that was with very little force applied on it. Now I knew it wasn't my technique. Got up and threw the crystal file into the bin and totally forgot about it. I only ever use emery boards now, I know they work and have done so perfectly for years.

Wouldn't recommend this file to anyone, and I don't see myself as a novice to looking after my nails as I do my own manicures and acrylics so I know I wasn't using the file incorrectly.

Great for the handbag

I used to prefer the metal files but after trying this one out I use it more than my old faithful metal. I find this is easy, clean (less filing dust) and my biggest peeve doesn't happen like it does with regular emery boards (think fingernails and chalkboard :/) The finish is smooth as expected.

I can't see myself needing another file unless I misplace this one

Tips: rinse is after use to keep the file bed clear and rough, as nail particles build up it makes surface less effective but would be fine if not done for a while as the surface has ample coverage

Wouldn't rave about it

This nail file was great at first until it started to wear down which it clearly states it won't I haven't tried rinsing and reusing yet though but I can't imagine it'd make the smooth bits rough again. Probably wont buying again.
