Fake has never been so luxe!!

If you're a woman of age, I dare you to try and get through reading about these nails without humming Penny Lane.

If I'm going to an event, or a special occasion I always have my nails done at the salon. You know, gel nails, usually with a french tip, because I become overwhelmed choosing a design on the spot. I was really excited about this trial, but also a bit worried, mostly because, my nails are odd.

My drunk party trick is slamming my fingers in doors. Not on purpose you understand, but nonetheless its what I'm known for. Toilet doors, taxi doors, electronic gates. The result has been uneven nail beds - some are pretty much flat, with no natural curve. So I was a bit worried 'full' fake nails wouldn't fit properly (as opposed to just tips, and the bed being built up with gel like at the salon)

Anyhoo. The super fun part of this trial was selecting our design. I spent like an hour on the Teddy Lane website. Making a list. An actual handwritten list y'all, of my choices. I really like that it clearly shows the length and shape you're choosing. I choose a medium length, almond shape design called Catwalk.

Here lies the biggest negative of the trial.

Its actually difficult being sure of the design you're choosing. The live action photos compared to the 'stock' photos show very different shades and its hard to gauge the finish of the nails. Going by the photos I thought Catwalk was a pinky-gold glitter. Its actually a rose gold embossed foil. Nice, but not what I thought. And if I'm paying $29 on press ons, I want to know what I'm getting. So my feedback here is to add a text description of the designs too.

On to the actual nails - beautifully packaged, with very detailed instructions. I found matching sizes really easy, and actually had enough of a mix left over that my sister got a set out of it too!

I chose to go for the 10 day wear. Gluing them on is a bit of a 'leap' moment. You line it up, say a fleeting prayer to Manicurus, the God of Nails and go for it.

The length and shape I chose were perfect for me - a bit of a statement without erring into Ru Paul territory. My flat nails weren't an issue at all, the nails pressed on evenly and relatively straight, and really did look natural. Particularly around the cuticle area.

I work in admin and these held up remarkably well given the aggressive typing of my email replies and changing many a nappy at home. I wore gloves when washing up and I even did a bit of weeding (with gloves) too.

[review continued in Tips section]

Tips: The foil design started to wear on day 5, and by day 8 was looking past the point of acceptable out-of-the-house nails. But the glue was still super tight, so rather than try and ping them off, I waited for the glue to loosen before wiggling them off.

The price is fair for the quality of nails. Potentially a bit pricey for the press-on concept, but then again a lot less dollar than a salon gel job and it wreaked less havoc on my nails, than the aftermath of gel. So...yeah, I'd try a different design at this price for sure. In fact I've only marked this down on 'would I use it again?' because I wouldn't go for Catwalk again (on account of it being foil, not glitter like the images look).

Looking at my boring, wonky natural nails, I cast my mind back over my 10 days of Teddy Lane and the background music to my reverie fades in. ...'Teddy Lane was on my nails and on my hands'...and by golly gosh, did Teddy Lane look good there.

Nail Tech Approved!

I'm a certified nail technician, but I no longer do it full time. So back in the day my nails had to be perfect. Now my nails are natural, but kempt, and I only fake it if I'm on holiday, or going to a party or date night.

I'm on holiday in Aussie right now, so great timing! I chose the design Daiquiri - long, stiletto nails in a 'feature' nail design. You could play around with the finished manicure, but the suggested look from thumb to pinky is: pink, glitter, feature, glitter, pink. I followed this pattern.

The design is very pretty and blinging. I love the glitter nail. Being a bit picky, the diamante feature on the line of the feature was a little misaligned, but in a way it added to the natural look, because humans rarely get things perfect right?!

Very easy to apply. If you allow the glue to get tacky on the nails before pressing down it creates less mess and minimises over-spill.

These are easy to file down if you need to, both at the tip and down the sides for fit. The file is a bit pants, if you need to file quite a bit, you'll want a tougher one.

They look as natural as falsies can, and do not look like press-ons. My girlfriend's are convinced these are gel or acrylic because of the quality!

Long is long - even though I'm used to long nails I do keep catching my thumb. The glue sticks so well its actually a bit sore when I catch it, but thats a reflection of my nail choice. It would be cool if each design was a available in variety of lengths.

I really love these nails, thanks BR!

Tips: Do your fingers on both hands first and then apply to your thumbs.

Very sturdy chip resistant false nails!

For my Teddy lane nail trial I choose the shade Kristin from the classic collection. This is a lovely nudey/pink shade which is a prefect shade for everyday wear.

On opening the nails my first impressions were how lovely and natural they look unlike other false nails I have seen before (obviously this depends on which collection you go for). They feel very smooth to touch and have a lovely glossy finish.

What is fantastic about this brand of nails is that they have so many different collections and choices within each range. I have very short nails so didn’t want them too long in length. The ones I chose were prefect as they were medium in length. Everything needed apart from a cuticle stick is include in the pack which includes 24 nails in 12 different sizes, a nail file and glue and off course instructions.

I did find that the application of the nails does require a bit of time. I am a bit of a novice when it comes to applying false nails so perhaps I would get faster and find it easier the more I did it. I definitely can’t stress enough how important it is to properly follow the instructions provided and to do good prep work of your own nails before hand. I was so excited when these arrived that I skip the step or using a cuticle stick to push back extra skin the first few times I apply the nails and found the result wasn’t as neat as the rest.

The only issue I had was finding the right size to fit my thumb and my little finger but the nails are easy enough to file down to size and this didn’t appear to affect the strength or quality of the false nails. The nail sizes are numbered on the back too so it easy to make sure you get the same size nail on each hand.

As I only wanted to wear them for a few days I followed the 1-3 day wear time instructions which meant only using a thin strip or a dot of glue in the centre of the nail. I was a bit concerned that they might not last the full 3 days using only a small dot of glue but the false nails felt very sturdy on once dried and didn’t chip during the 3 days. So I can definitely reuse them again.

When I went to remove my nails I soaked them in reasonably hot water for a good few minutes and then gently lifted the nails off using a cuticle stick. My natural nails didn’t look damaged or appear any more brittle from wearing them and the removal process of soaking in hot water is easy and did work.

I believe they are good quality as they look very natural and felt very sturdy on but I would probably only use them for special occasions as they would get expensive for every day use and they did take a bit of time to apply properly.

Tips: Wear dish gloves if doing dishes by hand as the hot water will loosen them.

Natty Nails

These cool nails come in a stylish black box with Teddy Lane branding. There are 24 nails, a nail buffer, and glue. The instructions are on the outside of the box.

I got the shade, 'jeweled amethyst' and they are gorgeous - most are a mauve/lavender/egg-shell blue kind of shade and some have 5 jewels decorating the bottom near the cuticle. Some of them are white/gray marble for contrast.

So I read the instructions (for once) then lined up the nails that I'd measured against my real nails. I almost got it right too! Then glued and pressed them on, one at a time. It is sooo easy. I'd like to pretend I got them all perfectly straight, but I'm pretty gumby so some are slightly off centre, but it's not really noticeable. They needed a little buffing on the edges which was also easy.

The nails themselves are very strong. After 5 days there are no scratches, tears, or marks of any kind on them. And none of the jewels have fallen off either - and I'm not gentle on my hands and nails, so that's saying something. They all look exactly the same as they did when I applied them.

These jeweled nails are $28.99 which is a great price considering how long they look good for, and that they're excellent quality. There are lots of fabulous colours on the site to choose from. And if you're more careful than me, you should probably get two full sets from the box.

I highly recommend them.

Tips: Use lots of hand cream before you apply them so that your hands look as nice as the nails!!!

Underwhelmed by Teddy Lane Nails

I was excited to be trialling these nails and actually squealed when they arrived, I chose Runway from the 9-5 Collection which was a sparkly pink colour (totally me!).

Although I have used fake nails before, I made sure to read the easy to follow instructions before applying. The first thing I noticed was the length of the nails as I was finding the right sizes for my fingers. It seems wasteful to have to cut so much off the nail to have them at a 'functioning' length. Alas I am not one of those Real Housewives of New Zealand who sip champagne at lunchtime and have servants to do all the work. I am an office manager so the bulk of my work day is administration.

The second thing I noticed was the ridiculously sharp points on them, who in their right mind would wear their nails filed so sharp? Toilet paper issues came to mind! Again it seemed wasteful to cut so much of the nail off.

Bearing in mind the instructions that warned against getting the glue wet for the first couple of hours after application, I applied the nails on Sunday night, hoping the glue would be bonded and set enough for my workday Monday. The nails were really easy to apply (I only stuck my fingers together once lol) and the different sizes in the pack made for easy fitting.

I went through my usual routine Monday morning getting ready for work, and after showering noticed that some of the pink colour on the nails had turned silver, almost as if it had rubbed off.

I also noticed after doing quite a bit of typing on Monday that two of the nails appeared to have started splitting, so I cut and filed them instead of removing them.

Tuesday morning in the shower I lost three nails while washing my hair. I refitted new nails while eating breakfast so it wasn't a big deal.

Wednesday I noticed all but two of the nails had distinct silver patches on them where the pink had rubbed off. I lost two nails while unloading the dishwasher and didn't bother reapplying them.

Thursday is today and in between showering, filing and making coffees today I have lost another six nails. Now I know the box says "lasts up to 10 days" but for the price Teddy Lane are asking for these nails, I would have thought they would last closer to the 10 days than this - it has been a disappointing trial this time round.

Tips: I wouldn't buy these nails for 'every day' use, but would recommend them for a special occasion where you aren't going to be putting any pressure on them and they're only needed to look nice for a few hours.

Instantly WOW nails

I was thrilled to be chosen for the trial of the Teddy lane press on nails. I love doing my nails - and rarely have naked nails, but my nails are short! I chose from the Glamour collection - because I'm nail obsessed and it was an opportunity to have lloooonngggg glamourous nails. I chose the beautiful Daiquiri design - Pink, greys, glitter - basically lots of BLING!

I watched the video first & set out on my manicure mission. The best way to apply is to select each nail first, and line them up so you're simply gluing and applying simultaneously. I made sure each nail chosen was slightly smaller than my nail to avoid an mishaps with glue and skin!

I quickly buffed my nails, then cleaned with an alcohol wipe as a quick prep. I'm not used to long nails so I decided to apply the finger nails (Leave thumbs till the very end!) to my dominant hand first.

To apply I smeared a little glue on my nail, a quick dab/smear to the press-on nail, & then holding the tip I lined up over my nail and pressed down and held for about 5 seconds. You need to be precise and quick because the glue sets quick but it's a relatively easy process. I repeated on the other hand, and then finally pressed on my thumbs! The result was fantastic. They looked amazing (I've uploaded a photo on BR Photowall!) and they were solidly attached.

I left these on over a weekend and into the week. I didn't lose any in that time!

Removal is a little more involved. I wanted to reuse the nails if I could, so I did the hot water removal they suggest. You soften glue, and then I could gently coax them off with an orange stick. It worked, but it takes time and a lot of care as the nails are well attached. I imagine at the 10 day mark they'd be much easier to remove as the glue would be starting to break down. Once all off I soaked my nails briefly in acetone polish remover to wipe of remaining glue, and my nails were damage free. You can remove the nails by soaking fingers in acetone (similar to removing gels). I imagine that would be an incredibly quick removal as everything melts away - but you throw the nails away afterwards and it can be harsh on skin. Both methods work - just depends if you want to reuse the nail vs. quick removal.

I loved these nails. Mine lasted 6 days when I had to remove them but could see me getting a week or more from them in the future. I'll likely get some from the Every Day range which are shorter, with a variety of shapes and shades, more suitable for day to day life, but I totally enjoyed the 'wow' of my glamour nails too!

Thanks Teddy Lane & BR for the opportunity - what a fantastic product!

Tips: Follow the video on their website as the tips and tricks make for a perfect application.

Apply nails to your dominant hand first, because once the nails are on I found application can be a little trickier.

Teddy Lane Jewlled Collection

Received my Teddy Lane Jeweled collection packet a view days after my invite - Wow they are so glamorous! Beautifully packaged and displaying the Aquamarine colours. My daughter was instantely jealous!

The package contains 24 nails and I was very impressed with the sizes - I have pretty slim fingers and small nails and I could easily find sizes to fit.

It comes with a small tube of glue and a small nail file to easilily shape where needed. It was pretty easy to stick them on and did take note as directed not to wet your fingers for the first hours - nine days in the are still intact and I have not noted and nicks or chips yet.

I have an office job and repeatedly point out important information in reports to management and co-workers and have received various compliments over the last 9 days I have been wearing them. I have to agree they look gorgeous!

Some of mine had diamanté beautifully place on one side of the nail - it was great because i would never have been able to place them so precisely.

Overall I’m pretty impressed - at the $25 price i would probably only buy them for a special event - they are quick to apply, look beautiful and the easy to take with you as a travel size.

Tips: Follow the instructions - especially don’t get your fingers wet a hour after applying!

Easy quick nail fix

For this review I chose the Parisian nail set in long length and they are oval shape. My nails don’t normally grow super long so I filed them down to a length I preferred and also slightly more squoval to suit my hands better. I love the nude and blush pink colours matched with the white and rose gold. Very classy and classic whilst still being fun and pretty. I made the mistake of applying the nails to my left hand first, being right handed this made it more difficult using my left hand, now equipped with false nails, to pick up the little nails and apply them to my right hand. But I got there. Unfortunately I lost one not long after...and stood on it. It split down the middle but no problem! I stuck some glue along the middle of it and glued it right back on and it then lasted really well and I couldn’t tell it had a break in it. The Teddy Lane nails lasted really well. I was determined to truly test then and see if they would last 10 days. I did lose a couple in that time but my ring fingers and pinky’s stayed the whole 10 days and were then actually quite hard to get off haha but I soaked them as directed and after a few goes they came off. They were, other than my own left handed difficulties, very easy and simple to apply. Super easy to shape and file to the size and length I wanted with no damage to the nail. So easy to keep the glue in my handbag and then if I did lose one I could have quickly and easily glued it back on. Really comfortable to wear too. I worried they might hurt or feel weird but I didn’t even notice them after a few minutes. I could feel when they started to loosen sometimes which was handy so I could reapply. I wore them in the shower and bath and in the hot pools at Tekapo Springs. I wore them while playing with my kids, doing yoga, running and going on walks around mountains and they were amazing. I wore gloves when doing the dishes and tried to look after them as best I could. In the end I had two split, one on day 8 and one on day 10. One nail was quite worn by day 5 down to the underneath layer. Another couple had small cracks in the polish. But I think for wearing them as long as I did and doing all the things I did, that was pretty good. Next time I would apply less glue and just wear them for a few days at a time. But they will definitely be my go to events and nights out. I love how easy it to change them and apply them and they are half the price of having a gel manicure. My own nails were left I damaged from the glue although it was a relief to get them off after 10 days. My nails felt like they’d had a bit of pressure on them. I found the file included easier to shape and file the nails that using one of my own. I can’t wait to get a good stock of these so I can easily choose my manicures! No waiting and drying time and no mess ☺️

Tips: Watch the glue bottle. Mine didn’t seem to do back up very well and even though I put it back in the plastic case and in the box it leaked. Eventually it glued itself to the plastic case and the lid was glued to the bottle and I couldn’t get it unstuck. Apply to your dominant hand first for ease of application. Don’t apply too much glue unless you definitely want them to last a long time!

Beautiful Glossy Nails

I’ve always wanted to try out fake nails, but I heard about how damaging the glues were to the natural nails and my nails are already weak, so I was very reluctant. After reading raving reviews about the Teddy Lane nails, I had to try them for myself. This was the first time I’ve ever used fake nails. I bought the blushing veil set, which is part of the natural collection range. It’s great that Teddy Lane is a New Zealand brand and cruelty free. The nails have a UV gel coating, which give them a glossy look. The nails are also chip resistant and the set contain 24 reusable nails. It also includes a nail file and a glue tube which is supposed to be non-damaging to the nails.

The blushing set is a beautiful light pink set which includes few silver glitter nails. There are instructions for 3 day wear or 10 day plus wear. I opted for the 3 day wear and followed the instructions. Firstly, I trimmed, filed and cleaned my natural nails. I then applied a thin strip down the middle of the fake nail. After waiting 6 seconds for the glue to get tacking, I stuck it onto my nail and held it down for 20 seconds for it to bond. I continued to do this for every nail. It’s important to avoid water for at least an hour for the glue to bond fully. I didn’t trim the fake nails once they were fully bonded as I was happy with the length they came as. After 3 days, the nails started to fall off so, I just filled the sink with hot water that was a suitable temperature bear and submerged my hands in it for about 2 minutes. I used my nail from my opposite hand to remove the nails, and they came off very easily. My natural nails looked perfectly fine after the fake ones were removed.

The fake nails looked even more gorgeous once they were on. They looked very natural and were very comfortable to wear that I forgot I was wearing fake nails. I had a lot of compliments on them and people even thought they were my real nails. I couldn’t stop staring and playing with them, I liked the sound they made when I tapped them against a surface. My natural nails would break before they could grow that long, so it was exciting to have a way to have lovely long nails. The Teddy Lane nails are perfect for any occasion and I think I will be using these instead of painting my nails. I definitely recommend it to anyone, especially to those who love manicures on a budget.

Tips: The instructions are very helpful, don't throw it out. Keep your hands away from water for at least an hour after sticking on the nails.

Fave drugstore nails!

These nails are so easy and cute. They are already designed so well, you literally just need to glue them on and go! I’ve started using these instead of getting acrylics because they look just as good and are a lot cheaper than salon trips. The glue is also really good. The shapes and styles are flattering and very up-to-date with current trends.

Tips: File the surface of your nails down before adding the glue, it makes them last way longer.
