That smell.....

Ok how bad is this I wasn't even aware Revlon did gel polishes until I scored a free top coat from shopping online at farmers.

The round bottle is nice to hold with a a long brush handle, the bristles on the brush are long but standard, it's not a flat brush and no rounded corners.

This has a weird scent, yes weird! It's not the typical nail polish smell it's almost like a burnt plastic smell, it lasted for 2 days before it disappeared.

I applied 1 coat of this to freshly painted nails and it dried within a couple of minutes. It was easy to apply and the end result was smooth shiny nails.

My nails stayed shiny and I had no chipping or wear for 5 days, I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't want to like this because I have my old faithful that I love, and this comes fairly close to my favourite But well....that horrid scent..... I now want to try some of the colours, to see if they are as good as the top coat.

95% amazing

These are nail polishes i had to buy, after i had tried one from my friends nail polish stash. Initially, i had seen this around, and had never been tempted by them. I also used the sally hansen gel nail polishes instead, so didn't really have a reason to try another brand, but i am glad i did.

Firstly these come in an amazing range of colours and i think i have around 5 or 6 shades. The bottles are handy because you can see accurately see the colour of the nail polish. It comes in a circular based bottle, with a smooth black cylinder lid. The brush is pretty good. Its wide enough to cover my nail in a few swipes, so i like it.

My favourite thing about this nail polish is how long lasting it is, even without a top coat it last around 4 days before it starts looks bad. And when it starts looking bad, its not because the nail polish is chipping, but just because it is wearing.

After all these positives, there of course has to be something negative. Some of these shades are amazing, and two coats give amazing coverage. However some colours, such as sorbet need over 5 coats to create a non streaky look. 5 coats is a bit insane, and very time consuming, so this is why this polish 100% amazing

Tough Tips

I hadn't been tempted to buy these as I was pretty happy with my old faithful polishes and had only had experienced Gel nails done in salons. I was happily surprised when a beautiful friend gifted me a stunning purple called Showtime and a Diamond top coat.

I applied this to freshly buffed and preened nails and found my first application must have been too thick as it just wouldn't dry... take two: I tried again with one single thin, yet well covered layer and allowed to dry. I didn't find the need to apply a second coat, but it does look better with two. Then after waiting a couple of minutes for it to dry I applied the Diamond top coat. It doesn't take any longer than regular polish to dry but I felt over cautious about my nails until I was certain they were hardened. Once I was sure they had set my nails were feeling a little odd, kind of tight feeling (I know that sounds odd but best way I could describe the sensation), and that settled down after a while too.

So longevity of wear.. days! 4-5 days before even the first sign of lift or wear, by day 7 I wanted to remove it and apply a new colour so off it came. I could have worn it for longer but then I might not have had the time to do my nails later in the week. It all came off pretty easily as well, just a simply nail polish remover & cotton rounds was all that I needed and came off like any ordinary lacquer. No damage to nail bed and no staining.

Winning Streak & High Stakes

In all honesty I only brought these after I tried the other gel nail enamel on the NZ market, seeing that the Revlon version has more colour variety to its range I wanted to like them as much if not more than the other I had tried.

Picking up the compulsory top coat that you need to seal the base colours, along with Winning Streak (Lilac/purple) and High Stakes (Emerald green) I tidied up and prepped my nails apply 2 coats, letting each coat dry fully then topped this off with the top coat. Winning Streak being a pale colour needed 3 coats to be honest and on the second time I re did my nails I made sure I did at least 3 and then a nice solid pastel purple was achieved, High Stakes was solid on just 2 coats.

Application was easy; the brush is a good size to allow the 3 strikes rule without smudging all over your fingers or missing the edges of the nail. The formula is a little thicker than normal enamels and it is very easy to blob so you need to breathe and go slow, no overloading of the brush to get an even coat as it will just create a lumpy finish. Dry time is very fast between coats which is an added bonus with the top coat taking only about 1 minutes to be fully set.

Durability, well..........they did last longer than their competitor however still not the full 11 days as promoted. I did however manage to keep them all nails unmarked, or scuffed for a full 6 days which is a new record for me so would recommend them. With the colour choice available to the NZ market being quite a range I think I will be investing in some more of these as although they don’t live up to the 11 days they do give me longer than normal life of enamels, a super high glossy shine that doesn’t fade until you take them off and also I love the texture of a gel that this enamel provides.

Yay, gel done at home

I was a bit dubious that these polishes would live up to salon quality gel but was pleasantly surprised, and I now own nearly half the colour range! ha ha.

I love the double brush for applying the polish, makes it super quick and easy to put on. Took a little practice to get the neat lines that the salons get, but I have got there now and love it. I am not too hard on my hands and found that it lasted a week, with care before chips started to show. I love how glossy the colours are, especially with the top coat.

Tips: I have found the darker colours still stain my nails though due to no separate base coat - be aware this might happen to you. Keep some lemons handy to remove the stains after you remove the polish.

Amazing shine!

I love the colours and the shine of this new Revlon range. Don't really like the names though. I've bought nail polishes in the fast simply because I really liked the name. I don't think it lasts as long as it claims though. Drying time is pretty fast and very easy to apply, however nails started chipping faster than the usual Revlon nail polish range. However, I didn't use the special top coat with it but this was simply because I wanted to compare with the other Revlon nail lacquers that I have used before. The opacity is amazing, will purchase again if I spot a color that I haven't got (especially if it has a cool name!)

Tips: A little goes a long way with these nail polishes- aim for thin coats rather than a thick coat as it can all pool near the cuticles and pop due to the gel-ish consistency

Worth a try

These Revlon Gels came out o special so I thought I would give them a try. With clean and dry nails I set to. You dont need a base coat as it is in the colour. I did 2 colour coats which I found went on easily and smoothly. I let it dry for about 20 mins between coats and then applied the top coat. The result was a "salon" look finish. I was very happy with the result. Now the test of time. I work full time in a retail environment so I have hard working hands. I found the gel llasted abut 1 week which is better than an enamel . I am yet to find a gel that can go the distance of 2 weeks but with this Revlon gel, I was reasonably happy. I would use it again.

Tips: You can apply another top coat a few days later to freshen up the shine.

looovvvee this polish range

The polish looks just like a gel! The colour is thick and has good coverage. Drys fast. Then the gel envy top coat seals it in with a high gloss/shine. It lasts on my nails for nearly 2 weeks!!!

Tips: Make sure each coat is dry before applying the next. As it is thick, if you apply too much at once it won't dry properly.

Gel Envy

No need for a base coat, just apply two coats on to clean dry nails then apply the specially formulated Gel Envy Top coat and your ready to rock. Apart from shellac nails, nothing stays on my nails for more than two days before the chipping begins but this formulation has lasted on me for a maximum of five days although it claims it stays on for eleven. I guess it depends on the physical aspects of what you do with your hands on a daily basis. The matte cream colours ( I own four colours now) are very creamy and deep pigmented. The brush applies the enamel evenly and easily. Fairly quick drying and the top coat gives it a beautiful glossy finish. Very easy to remove with ordinary nail polish remover except you have to rub and persist a little longer with the glittery colours because as with all glitter nail enamels that is their nature. Smells like most nail polishes. I found my nail beds were very dry upon removing the enamel, I just compensated by using a treatment like Hydranail by Manicare. This is my new nail polish range and so loving the colours Revlon has put out. Once, I used the Wild Card (matte finish) then I applied The Sky's The Limit (shimmer finish) on top, the outcome was amazing.

Tips: It's pointless just buying the nail colour without the top coat and that means having to spend up to $40 on your first buy. The specials at the pharmacies are $24 for two till the end of the month.

Thanks for a great, detailed review. I've been thinking about giving this one a go and letting my nails have a break from real gel, but now I'm not so sure on reading how it doesn't last very long. You've been very helpful!

Very Impressive!

Wow, the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy is a goodie! I've tried a few different 'gel' nail polishes in the past and most of them do pretty well but chip after 3-4 days still. Not this baby! My nails lasted a full week at work (involving typing on a keyboard) without a single chip! So impressed. The formula goes on smoothly, dries VERY fast, and looks lovely on my nails. If Revlon were cruelty free this would be the perfect polish!
