A great beginners palette

I purchased this palette from splashstore about a month ago- kind of exciting since it hadn't quite hit other stores in NZ yet. The concept with the palette is that it is sorted into quads or trios so that you can do complete eye looks and it will coordinate with each other. The trios or quad combo's are shown in diagrams on the back of the palette which really takes the work out of deciding which colour will go with which. The pigmentation of this palette is not the most amazing, particularly for some of the matte shades, but it is pigmented enough that you can easily build up an eyeshadow look from more natural to more of a dramatic look which I like. I found the shadows to be really easily to apply and to blend. The only negatives I really found with this palette is that some of the shades are a bit similar to each other, and there is only a couple of shades I could use in the crease as this tended towards the more shimmery shades. Still, this is a great and totally affordable option particularly if you are just starting to build up your makeup collection. Would absolutely recommend this to others.

Thank you for answering all my questions (in my head haha). I'm with Lutece - I will be giving this one a pass as well, even though Sophie did an amazing look with the palette.

Nude-ilicious

I was so excited to try this out as I didn't have a full nude pallet yet so always had to use colours from different pallets! This product I would definitely recommend to others, especially beginners it's awesome. It's a pallet where all your basic colours are there that you need and it's compact enough so you can fit it in your bag for travel use as well.

Tips: Blend, blend and more blend like with any eye shadow

Not THAT kinda nude!

For me, the term 'nude' conjured up the image of wearing nothing at all, and that may be why I have avoided nudes until now...boooooo-ring! But when BR emailed me with the superhero task force offer to trial this palette (from a company I've often had good results from!), I had to say yes. This product has been hyped, and so I figured it would be a good place to start! Plus, I was on my way back from a dream trip to Japan and needed a new focus...perfect! (Thanks, BR xx)

The Maybelline The Nudes Palette comes packaged in a sleek black case with a clear window through which you can easily see the 12 shades. There is a plastic sleeve around this when you first pick it up, which has info on Quads, Trios and Duos from the product which go together. Interestingly this same information is on the back of the actual case - but it's different there, and the one on the plastic sleeve makes more sense. Typo? Confused packager? Not sure, but don't throw out the sleeve!

The palette tends towards shimmers in the lightest shades, with a couple of matte bone/taupe shades thrown in, and more matte darker colours from a mid brown through to a black.

I used all three quads, then went back to a couple of the colours that suited me better to trial this for brows, lips, and as an under-cheekbone contour. I found that using the guides helped, but instinct also helps, and if you like two colours together then they are worth a go! There is a golden shimmery shade 3 in on the bottom row that I love for inner eye and upper central lid as it really pops the gold flecks in my hazel eyes.

This is a multi-use palette, but it can't do everything – I still used base, liner, mascara etc as normal.

I haven't tested this on a full work day yet... my workdays can get up to 13 hours though :S However, I've worn the shades 4 days in a row and I'm happy with how they've lasted through a chill holiday time where I've put my makeup on closer to lunchtime than breakfast! They've also helped make me look less jetlagged and more myself!

When I applied the shadows as lip colour (over a clear gloss) they adhered exceptionally well and I was really impressed. When applied as a contour you need to blend them out with your face powder to avoid a line. On the eyes, they blend nicely. I've heard people complain about the pigmentation but I feel it's adequate for a nude palette, especially as the colour is buildable and easy to work with.

In short, I'm really impressed with this palette. I'm a 'brights and darks' girl and this was my first real foray into nudes, and I like that you can go softer or more dramatic with this palette depending on your mood. I think the shades are really well thought out and complement each other (and me!) well. I would recommend this to most people but feel that it might be too much of a range for a beginner, especially as the instructions are a little confusing with being non matching.

Tips: Use the right brushes. I used a blending brush for the 'entire eye area' and 'lid' shades, then a thinner, stiffer brush for the crease and edge of lid, and an angled brush for eyeliner and brows. It makes a huge difference.

Infinite looks in one palette

I am a big fan of Nude palettes and I think this is wonderful. This palette is perfect for everyone. Maybelline has created a really good combination of shadow shades, a mix of shimmer, satin and matte shades. Firstly I like the packaging, it is a plastic and compact container, good to bring in our makeup bag. I'd like the packaging has a mirror but the lid shows the beautiful shades. The colors are coordinated for you, giving you gorgeous shades that work well together. In the back of the packaging are the swatches and how to's. This is very useful. I prefer the quads, they are separated to create the brown, bronzer or smokey look. But I think there are no limits to create any look. The shadows blend perfectly but if I want to have the intensity I need to apply them many times. They are silky but they are not too pigmented. I think this palette is perfect for a natural makeup to use during the day.

Tips: I use eye primer before the shadows to make my look a little bit intense and durable.

Fabulous beginners palette

I was lucky enough to get to trial this as a superhero challenge. Thanks BR x Now I have to be honest with a couple of things. I've been so sick and applying makeup is the last thing on my mind. I tried to soldier on. At first this palette really annoyed me. Let me explain...

So the packaging I really like. It's compact, sturdy and looks classy. It closes with a click and is quite stiff to release. Great for travel. I love how you can see the colours through the clear peak lid and the logo is simple yet classy.

As soon as I got it I swatched on my arm. I won't lie I was really disappointed at first. I was swiping and swiping to try and build the colour up. It's not very pigmented. I took photos of the swatches inside and out to see how the colours changed. They are really really pretty colours. This I loved! It annoyed me the colours didn't seem very pigmented. I kept playing on my arm and figured out keep building the colour up to make deeper. Sweet I like this now.

The shadows have different textures I quickly found. A couple seem to be a bit more crumbly, there are a couple that are creamy and others a normal pressed texture. I like how they are different. I love how there are shimmer and flat and matte colours.

So to apply I didn't use the applicator that came with it as I prefer brushes. Now I found with other palettes you swipe the brush once or twice and you have ample colour. These you really need to build up as you go which is fantastic for people learning about applying eye shadow.

The "nude" name is perfect as the whole palette is so easy to create a soft nude no makeup look or build up for a deeper nude brown smokey look. I've been really happy with the looks I have managed to create. I've used the colours as eye shadow (obviously), highlighter for strobing, contour, brow filler and eyeliner. I struggled using it as a contour as you can only use a fine brush to pick up the colour and apply to your face, then you need to blend blend blend to hide the stripe lines. Be great if the contour and highlight colours were 2 times the size pans.

If I had seen this in a store and I had swatched in store I absolutely wouldn't have brought it. As I was dedicated to the challenge I kept playing at home and i actually really like it now. So for me it's a don't judge the book by the cover. What I don't like is it doesn't have names of the shadows written on the compact. Small thing.

I'd totally recommend this for a teenagers first palette, to someone wanting to try a smokey eye but not into bold looks yet, to a business professional.

Tips: If you get this play, build up the colours and have fun with it. Read the BR article for tips as well

Maybelline is the New Nude

First of all - thank you so much BR for letting me be a part of this trial!

I received my palette on Friday evening and I just couldn't wait to give it a go! Saturday morning I decided to use it for my go-to work look and made a conscious decision to NOT use a primer on my lids to test out the longevity.

After a 9 hour work day I noticed that the shadow had shifted into my crease. Because it was a nude shade it wasn't such a big deal, but if it was a brighter shade it wouldn't have looked very good. I have oily lids so I was expecting this.

On Sunday I decided to swatch every shadow on my wrist to test the pigmentation, with and without primer. These shadows perform SO much better with a primer. I decided to leave them on my wrist all day - running around after my 2 year old, picking her up, putting her down, picking her up again and they had only faded a touch by 6pm.

Today I created a complete look using the central quad with all the shimmery shades in it. I do my eyes first to try and minimise fall out ruining my base, but I didn't find the fall out that big with these shadows - winning? Right now my make-up looks just as flawless as when I applied it, so we're looking good.

Overall I think I would definitely get this palette again, it has been very multi-use and so far has the only cool-toned brown I've managed to find for my brows. (thank goodness, YES!) I was a little bit disappointed with the lack of pigmentation of a couple of colours (shade #1 and #3 primarily) but the rest performed as I expected.

Would I recommend this to a friend? If you haven't already got a nude palette - definitely buy this one!

Tips: Definitely use a primer for these shadows - the pigment is very average by themselves. I recommend the E.L.F Eyelid Primer.

Maybelline Nude Palette

Coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't typically use a lot of makeup, I absolutely loved this product! It had a wide range of colours, while keeping with the Nude theme obviously, giving a lot of possible different looks. The package has ideas of different Duo, Trio, and Quad looks, with guides of where to put each colour. I experimented a little with the different possibilities and they were all really easy to put on, didn't smudge, and it hasn't cracked yet. Not a whole lot of it is needed for the colour to stand out, so you don't end up with a really powdery and caked eyelid. I would definitely recommend this product, it has certainly made me more interested in trying out different looks.

Yes to "The Nudes"

Watching this palette take centre stage with it's feature on BR had me gazing at it in admiration - it definitely caught everyone's eye! It quickly skyrocketed to the top of my wishlist. I love the idea that a nude palette can have multiple uses (for highlighter, brow filler and more).. Oh how I felt I needed this nude palette in my life, and BR came to the answer. Thanks BR x

Before getting this palette, eyeshadow was for the most part reserved for special events. So, eyeshadow was not generally part of my daily makeup routine. This palette has quickly changed that for me! The reason why I have steered away from eyeshadow in the past is a couple of reasons.. I thought it could be abit 'too much' for daytime wear. Secondly, I also felt application of eyeshadow can be quite tricky! This palette has proven me wrong in both of these. I've realised eyeshadow can look lovely and subtle for everyday wear (not just smokey eyes and going out). Also, with practice (and referring to instructions) , application just gets easier as you gain confidence.

Maybelline is a brand I'm very familiar with (and love their mascaras), so I was hoping this would be added to the list of Maybelline products that impress me! The palette looks modern with it's black case and silver writing, that is sleek and stylish. The palette is made of black sturdy plastic, with a clear plastic lid which reveals the lovely colours below it. I found the added instructions on the plastic sleeve casing of how to use the shadows useful (I definitely had to refer to these, and the more I experimented with the shadows the more confident I became). I think guided instructions are helpful for those of you that are just starting your eyeshadow journey.

As with most applicators that are included with eyeshadows, it's so much better to use your own brush (such as Real Techniques), as you get a better result and so much easier to blend. The applicator that is included feels slightly rough and not the easiest to use on my sensitive eyes.

I love the palettes cheeky name 'in the nudes'. It has a wide spectrum of twelve neutral colours, from creams to tans and browns. These colours give you the opportunity to create different looks depending on what you are after, whether it be subtle and fresh or bold and sultry.

The eyeshadows are a lovely range of colours, with some being block matte colour, while others have shimmer/sparkle. The pigmentation gets better the more you apply, and the formula is very buildable. For me, and someone starting out on the eyeshadow journey this palette is perfect and such a great product. The palette has different looks that you can create based on the colours, such as quads, trios and duos. I also love that it can be used for many other uses such as highlighter and filling in your brows. It definitely is a multi-use product.

Overall, this nude palette is lovely and it has quickly ignited my passion for eyeshadow -it's now a staple in my makeup bag.

Tips: - If you haven't got a nude palette you should really give this a go. It's now a must in my makeup bag. - Use a primer for best results

Good value palette

I have all the palettes in the urban decay naked range, and was keen to try this out to see how it compares to them as a cheaper alternative.

The packaging is nice and sturdy, doesn't feel too plasticky and cheap like some of the dupe palettes out there. The colours all go well together and there is a good explanation of the duos and trios and quads on the back of the packaging which is great for people who might be newer to shadow to make it easier for them to put colours together.

I found that the shadows are not as pigmented as the UD ones, and require a bit more layering and blending to get the colours payoff, but they have a nice texture.

I found that using an eyeshadow primer made a huge difference to the colour payoff I got, particularly with the lighter colours as they are a bit more chalky and don't apply as smoothly.

Overall it's a really nice little palette for a "drugstore" version of a higher end product, and good for those that want a nude palette without shelling out lots of $$. It's also a great pallette for those who want to practice and experiment with nudes before committing to a higher end product. I would still go for my urban decay naked range before I picked this up, but it's good for what it is!

Tips: Use a good eyeshadow primer to get the best colour payoff.

Maybelline The Nudes Palette

Colours: This is such a gorgeous palette if you are into neutral colours. The colours are easy to blend and build up and easy to mix and match colours, the shade selection is great. There are colours in the palette to do both day and night looks to create a party look – daytime neutral eye or a deep smokey eye. There are so many colours in the palette that I feel it is definitely worth the money. The palette definitely works best when a primer is applied to the eyelids prior to applying the shadows to make the colours last longer (as the colours don’t last as long without it). Packaging: I like the size of the palette also, a nice size for travelling as it will fit in your makeup bag as well. The packaging is also quite sturdy so it’s going to be travel-friendly. The only thing that would have made this palette extra great would have been if it came with a mirror so you can apply the shadows on the go. The other con would be the standard eye shadow spongy applicators that it comes with to apply the shadows however this is pretty standard for these brands – it would have made it that little bit better if it did come with a mini eye shadow brush. Definitely a great palette for those who are on a budget, those new to makeup, and those who want to experiment with different looks than splurging on high-end makeup :)

Tips: Definitely use primer before applying the shadows so they last longer :)
