Finally met my matte!

I've tried a few matte lipsticks now and each time I was left wondering what the fuss is all about. All they've ever done for me is shrivel my lips up so that I look like I've been sucking on a lemon. After eating or drinking, the middle of my lips would be bare, leaving just an outline that had inevitably bleed. I've tried lip liners and primers to try to get them to work, to no avail. I just came to the rather sad conclusion that mattes are for younger lips than mine.

So when I was sent this to trial, I really had zero expectations. I have been pleasantly surprised. This works. This works on me! Application is an absolute breeze. I'm not the greatest at lining lips but the unique arrow shaped applicator on this means I get a near perfect outline every time (be sure to follow Maybelline's instructions for using this). Whilst this still has a slight tackiness to it even after it's dried, it never transfers. I drink tea constantly throughout the day and this never transfers on to my cup. Nor do I see lipstick on the food that I'm eating or on my chin afterwards. This is a revelation! I do reapply it after eating as it does fade slightly but evenly. No dreaded outline or bleeding lips. Or worst still, sand paper lips.

I chose the colour Lover which is a lovely pinky nude. I've worn this on no make up days and it just gives enough of a pop of colour to make me look more 'put together'. This does require an oil based cleanser to get it off. I do notice that I need to use more lip balm at night after I've removed it and my lips do feel drier the next day than normal. Whilst I will always prefer a satin finish lipstick, this is so great for busy working days so I don't have to worry about reapplying or finding lipstick all over my face, cup, paperwork etc. I would recommend this to anyone who is still unsure about mattes. This maybe The One for you too!

A lippy to love

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink would have to be one of the best long-lasting lipsticks I’ve ever tried. The colour of the actual lipstick was true to the colour on the container which is fantastic and makes it so easy to pick a shade. I got the colour ‘Lover’ which is a subtle pretty pink. It’s a beautiful colour for my pale complexion. Enough pop to feel I am wearing colour, without my lips entering the room ahead of me or feeling unsure because I’ve gone bold!

Application the first few times felt a bit clumsy, but application still looked great. The applicator is quite long and also has some flex/movement when applying the lipstick, so you don’t feel you have as much control, however it does go on nicely when you get past that. The applicator shape is also great as it is a leaf shape and has a pointy end, so its easy to follow the contours of your lip, and also great for getting to the corners nice and neatly. The applicator also doesn’t pick up an excessive amount of product which I liked.

Once on, the lipstick does have a slight tacky finish to it, but not super sticky, and not so tacky you think the product is coming off. I preferred this finish to some matte lipsticks that I’d tried, which have a completely dry finish. The matte finish of the Matte Ink wasn’t drying on my lips either, which is a big plus as I hate adding lip balms to lippy and smudging the finish.

This lipstick has staying power, and I only applied first thing in the morning and didn’t go back for any touch ups. It passed the kiss test with my little guy at school drop off – no transfer of lippy to his cheek! Barely noticed any transfer to coffee cups either. It does fade out ever so slightly through the day, but it fades evenly, and the majority of colour is still there at the end of the day. I didn’t have to worry about bare patches of lip with the wearing off with this product, it stayed on my lips very evenly the whole day.

Removal was easy – I popped on some coconut oil on the lips, then just water on my makeup remover towel and it was gone. No staining at all afterwards.

I’m off to pick another colour for my collection. This product is a definite keeper!

Tips: This lippy does stay put, so using a product like coconut oil is great for removal if its not coming off easily

I'm in love with Matte!!

I have NEVER had any luck with matte liquid lipsticks. I've tried brand after brand, from the reasonably priced to the frankly, obscenely priced, to no avail. All I'm left with is dry, flakey pigment. But only on the outer lip. The centre, more 'wet' part - no colour at all.

So I confess. My expectations were low for the Maybelline Lip Ink.

It comes in a standard tube, I'm not a huge fan of the white - white plastic always looks a little cheap (gosh who's in a snarky mood...). Upon opening I immediately noticed the scent - sweet and delicious.

The applicator is different to others - its arrow shaped and has a hole in the centre. The liquid is noticeably sticky when pulling from the tube.

Application was the easiest liquid lipstick application ever. I used the narrow side to colour my top lip and used the fatter, flatter side for the centre and lower lip. Coverage was even and didn't need a second pass (which is always where you smudge right?)

The product was 'set' in under a minute, I don't want to use the word dry, as it wasn't dry. My lips didn't feel encased in a stiff clay mask like with other liquid lipsticks.

The colour I chose was Dreamer. Its a pinky nude and honestly just stunning!

This is definitely a superstay product. When I walked in after a days work it was still in place! It even survived eating a burger! I'm obsessed with wearing it, usually I bail on lipstick halfway through the day!

I can not wait to try other shades from the range!

Tips: Moisturise your lips well before use.

Remove with an oil cleanser.

Whoa - this is aMAYzing

A-May(belline)- zing, even.

I'm a sucker for lipstick, esp bright lipstick - and pink is my fave! So (although I was tempted by, and may eventually cave and buy the purple 'Creator' shade) I opted for Romantic - a glorious hot pink that's ever so slightly more muted on the lips than in the case.

The case is plastic and square - not the most expensive looking lipstick in my collection, but has a certain funky appeal nonetheless, and is sturdy. I'd have no worries about throwing this in my bag, no matter where my day took me; I can't see this cap popping off by accident.

The tube is long, as is the wand, which features an elongated pointed teardrop shaped applicator with an oval shaped hole in the centre. This applicator is life. It's so precise and so easy to use - I LOVE it. It needs to be scraped off against the tube a little as it carries so much product.

The actual lipstick is thick, with a sweet (but not sickly) scent I really like. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly - smells like a candle but i'm not sure which one! Definitely a sweet fruit with an edge of something else to stop it being cloying.

As I mentioned, application is easy - and made easier by the fact that one layer is enough. I've gone two and it's popped more, and I've gone one-then-blot which is a more delicate stain. Because it's thicker it doesn't bleed - but if you get your lipline wrong clean it FAST because it'll stain your skin a little.

BUT... is it SuperStay? Like all lipsticks it's going to wear, but it passed (and easily) drink and food tests (as long as it was drier food) - and I spent hours at a festival yesterday in 27 degree sunshine eating and drinking and only needed to reapply once, which is pretty amazing. Even when you need to reapply there's still a definite stain there.

The matte finish is subtle, it's not a full super dry matte - and in fact my lips seem to stay ever so slightly tacky for a long time after application, it doesn't dry particularly quickly. This does allow it to move with your lips and avoid cracking, which is nice.

On the whole, for the price point, this is a very good option for those who like subtle matte, bright colours, and products you can apply and forget - and I'll be looking at other shades!

Tips: scrape the wand, apply to dry lips and go! As easy as that.

superstay for sure

This liquid lip definitely stays all day.

I chose a nudey pink colour as these are the colours I wear most of the time. I loved the packaging of the lipstick. I like how it has the colour on the outside and matte feel. The applicator is good. It is quite hard compared to some other applicators but I wouldn't say this is a bad thing as it is still super easy to apply.

This formula is super matte which I like, it also is very opaque and very pigmented. It smells amazing, like caramel, i'm obsessed and want to eat it.

This liquid lip literally lasted on me for sooooo long. I think this was next level staying power. After a full day of eating and drinking etc, I went to take off what was left of my messy foundation and I was like what is that pink stuff stuck on my lips? It was literally the lipstick I put on 12 hours ago!!! and I didn't touch it up at all. I was shook.

This lipstick is so long wearing you would think it would be hard to get off? no, micellar water takes it off completely.

Have I found my new holy grail liquid lip? This could be the one for me. Time to go and get more shades

Tips: Smell it and feel happy

Awesome Matte lip!

I hadn't found a great matte lip until I came across this! I got the colour 'Dreamer.' It is a very creamy formula and I absolutely love the vanilla smell of this product!! The Superstay Matte Lip Ink is definitely an affordable and economical product given that a little goes a long way.

I love the applicator it makes it super easy to apply the lip ink precisely and quickly. When I applied it in the morning it was still on my lips by bedtime!! It lasts all day through eating and drinking, definitely living up to it's long lasting name, however when needed it was very easy to remove with eye and lip make up remover. I can't wait to buy more shades!!

Tips: I would advice to apply a lip balm beforehand and make sure to wait until it is dry.

Maybelline Superstay Matte Lip Ink

Thanks again Beauty Review for the chance to trial this product.

I received this matte lip ink in the colour "Lover". It is a bit pink with a touch of purple. It is a bit different to what I was expecting but I am a bit of a lippy fanatic so its all good.

This lip ink comes in a 5ml square tube. The outside colour is similar to the actual product and it. The applicator is oval shaped and has a hole in the middle of it. It is hard, not like a foam applicator which makes it really easy to outline your lips, then fill them in. At this point I will say you do need to be quite careful doing your outline as this lip ink really, really stays in place. So, if you do make a bit of a mistake make sure you have something to wipe it away as soon as possible.

Once you have applied that is it. For the day. The whole day. Lips done.

I drank coffee, water, ate breakfast and lunch, went to the gym all without worrying about my lippy. Amazing!

I will be buying more colours to add to my collection.

This may well be the last lippy you buy, it will last an age.

I've found my new love (& it wasn't on Tinder!)

Confession time! I love matte lipsticks mainly because... i’m lazy! I can’t be bothered doing the top up every 5 minutes so me and gloss just don’t talk at all.

Trouble is with many liquid lip paints/sticks you get that ‘bah bah bah’ feeling when you rub your lips together, you know when they’re super dry (a bit like the roof of your mouth the next morning after too much wine!), so I set out to give this baby the ‘bah bah’ test.

I chose the colour “dreamer” which is a lovely nude pinky shade. The product has a sponge applicator which I liked (rather than a brush) and one dip gave good coverage and it went on really easily.

It dries in about 60 seconds and, here’s the crunch... (wait for it), it literally didn’t come off for 8 hours! I am NOT kidding you! No fade from the edge of your lips leaving you with a bath like ring around your mouth. I gymed, it lunched it, and drank coke’d it and it didn’t budge much from the initial application!!

What is this witchery?

And did it pass the ‘bah bah bah’ test? (Actually i’ve got it on as i’m reviewing it). You betcha it did! So it’s a big fat 5 from me!

Tips: Go get yourself one! Actually two!! I'm off to check out the other colours!

Great Colours Super Stay Debatable

Well, I have to admit I absolutely loved the colour! when applying the product I found the applicator a little odd with a hole in the middle of the sponge-like end. Maybe this is a new thing but it did prevent me from having to redip to apply more and it didnt leak out when applying so that was great. The first day I used it found it lasted most of the day I was actually quite impressed as the most colour starts to disappear within hours but this product I managed to get a good 8 hours out of it, so a big thumbs up. The second day is where things fell apart a little I was disappointed at a function I went to my lip colour left lumpy lip ink on my wine glass and this wasn't just a small amount either it was clearly obvious (don't worry I know you are never going to prevent that) but compared to the other ladies my glass looked terribly worse and obvious. Overall I would use it again sparingly maybe with a non-sheen lip moisturiser to help prevent transfer and the colour is absolutely fantastic.

Tips: Use a lip moisturiser to help prevent transfer to glasses when out to functions.

Super Stay Power

I was lucky enough to win one of these from BR, I also got to pick the shade I wanted to try. Me being me picked Escapist. I deep dark plum purple shade. Absolutely perfect for moody winter vibes.

The packaging, a sleek matte tube with what I think is mean't to resemble the shade inside the tube, however for the shade I chose it was definitely a miss conception. The shade was alot darker than the colour on the tube.

The wand, weird. Not the doe foot you see with most liquid lips. I really like it though! It makes it so easy to apply the lipstick.

I wore this for a 7 hour stretch! And I was so surprised by the lasting power. When you initially apply it it feels really sticky but dries matte making it comfortable on the lips. I only had to touch up once I had finished my coffee as it wore off a little in the corners.

The only downfall I found with this was taking it off! It stained my lips and it was really difficult to remove. It was extremely stubborn.
