Very creamy and full of pigment. The colour lasts on your lips way longer than the lipstick so you end up with bright lines around your lips when u wake up in the morning after a night out. That's great because theres nothing harder than reapplying lip liner after a few wines. Beautiful color and does what it's meant too. Highly recommended

Tips: Keep the tip pointy as it's so pigmented it's easy to smear if not sharp
This lip liner may seem like an expense you don't need, but it's worth it. It makes your lipstick last most of the day... honestly. When I wear this matched with one of the MAC lipsticks, I have to apply once in the morning and once in the arvo... and I sometimes don't even need the liner again in the arvo (depending on what I've eaten). It glides on really smoothly too. Sometimes the colours are so fab I think maybe I should invest in a clear gloss to put over the liner
Tips: I always buy in a shade to match closely with a lippy
One of my favourites is Trust in Red which is described as a "bright cool red cream". Not surprising the swatch on the MAC website makes the tip look berry pink but in reality it looks red but when worn it's blood red with a fuchsia undertone. Gorgeous.
Admittedly when I first swatched it my immediate thought was "wow another boring red - next"! but the MAC MUA persuaded me to sport the shade on my lips so I could see how it would really look. I was SOLD! To me it's a softer and pinker version of Riri Woo (or Ruby Woo); so if you find these reds a bit too much you may want to look into 'Trust in Red'.
I love how the product sits on the lips. You think that because it's long lasting that surely it has to be drying but I have not had any issue with this. It goes on smoothly, doesn't budge and is highly pigmented - the colour is just so vibrant. These last well into the afternoon with light eating and drinking.
I mainly use MAC Pro Longwear lip pencils (Trust in Red, Bespoken, Dark Out) to achieve intense colour and I use the MAC Lip pencil (i.e. Spice, Stripdown, Half-Red) to define my lips. Now this is where my frustration comes and yes it may be silly to others but it has always annoyed me.
When I sharpen both MAC Pro Longwear pencil and MAC Lip pencil I find that the Pro Longwear comes out more rounded whereas the Lip Pencil is an actual tip. Sometimes when I'm using Trust in Red for intense colour; I actually want to use the very same pencil to define my lips but it's too rounded to give me definition. I could possibly achieve it but I really don't want to be putting in that much effort.
That gripe however is insignificant compared to how much I love these pencils. Price wise they're not the cheapest but you're really paying for quality, long wear and rich colour. I have a tendency to purchase my lot from NZ MAC stores just because I like to go in and swatch them and get a real feel for how they'll look on me.
Tips: I like to visit the MAC store and try the lip pencils - swatching them on the hand doesn't really show how it'll look on you. You'll be pleasantly surprised :-)
Super pigmented and long wearing. I got the colour soar and I love it. Its a flattering colour on all skin tones. I pair it with Mac kinda sexy Lippy and it looks gorgeous. I have not had a problem with this product wearing off too fast. I also often wear it on it's own.
I really want to collect more colours but at $40 each that is likely to happen very slowly.
Last week I finally decided to go to the MAC store and purchase a lip pencil in the shade Burgundy, to go with my matte lipstick in the shade Diva. I love, love, love this stuff. These lip pencils are smooth and have a great colour pay off. It lasts quite a few hours before it shows any sign of wearing off. It is an absolute must have in any make up bag!
I love anything spicy so when I saw MACs lip pencil in Spice I was drawn to it. Spice is a gorgeous brown/nude shade that is a perfect lip liner for NARS' lipstick Pigalle.
I purchased this from MACs US website, as paying $50 for a single lip pencil is utterly out of my budget and my conscience wouldn't ever allow it even if I had the funds. This was the first (and so far only), MAC lip pencil I own and I am definitely sold on these.
Firstly the packaging is nice. The pencil is a traditional pencil which you sharpen. This isn't my preferred lip pencil format (I prefer twist up pencils), but it isn't a deal breaker. The end of the pencil is colour coded to the shade which makes it easy to spot your pencil in your collection. This is a bit longer than a NYX lip pencil and a regular pencil sharpener will sharpen it.
This glides on so effortlessly and doesn't tug on your lips whatsoever. The pigmentation is incredible - one swipe is all you need, although this can be built up if you prefer. The finish of this particular pencil is matte and slightly drying if your lips aren't hydrated. I find that if I apply a balm around ten minutes before this then it's comfortable to wear.
The lasting power is fairly decent - around 4-5 hours with drinking and eating. You can definitely wear this alone or under any lipstick of your choice. I like to pair this with MACs Velvet Teddy or NARS' Pigalle lipstick, although I love this by itself too.
I haven't wor a gloss over the top of this as I'm not really a gloss fan, but I imagine this would look gorgeous with a nude or light pink gloss over the top.
Whilst this is a gorgeous pencil, I dont think its worth $50. To be fair I am not someone who would ever be comfortable spending that much money on a single lip pencil - even if I were rolling in money. If you are going to get a MAC lip pencil then I recommend getting one with a makeup application at MAC (I believe you pay $90 and get that much money to redeem in product. I haven't done this so I could be wrong on the cost). Otherwise I would recommend ordering this from MACs US site.
Overall I absolutely love this pencil. I have used it 7-8 times and have only had to sharpen it once. It feels soft and creamy on your lips but not too soft - it keeps the sharp point at the end really well. This is a gorgeous lip pencil and I will absolutely be adding more of these to my collection.
I have atkeast 10 of these penicls , I wear it by it self and also with gloss - or mac lipstick over
I had to train lining my lips, ever since kylie jenner started her lip trend with spice and whirl !
Its really easy and i do find that by it self its lasts around 2-3 hours? with gloss even less , but still gives a real nice pigmented colour which is what i want nothing translucent , You can sharpen it to a point so you can line perfect. Also its got that coverage that helps when you over line your lips. so its good for that also. <3 love love
Kylie Jenner inspired me to buy this lip liner! i absolutely love it. I use it as a lipliner as well as a lipstick. The colour i have is spice, i ordered it online because i couldnt find it anywhere else. The price online was cheaper than instore but then cost of shipping makes it about equal. Although this is pricey, i really wanted it because of all the reviews and i cannot argue with any of the reviews, I absolutely love it, it is so pigmented and suprisingly quite moisturising for my lips.It also stays on for quite a while before you need to touch it up again, and so it should for the price lol! Loving this so much! Highly recommend!
Tips: You can also use this as a lipstick, well i do anyway and it does the same job as a matte lipstick!
This lip pencil was quite a change from my regular MAC lip pencils! The formula is smooth and creamy and glides on easily (too easily sometimes-got to be careful to avoid making a mistake) It is super long-wearing and stays put even when the lipstick wears off, making it easy to touch up! Such a great range of colours too to match up to your favourite lippy!!!
Tips: Keep the tip sharpened for a more precise application!
