Cordovan Natural (#02) was the Day 22 gift in a 2017 Beauty Advent Calendar. The colour "Cordovan" is described as a deep red-brown, but this is a beautiful nude shade with cinnamon and peach tones that suits all skin tones.
The 4g lipstick bullet is encased in a cylindrical matte black plastic tube. The only part that's shiny is a ring around the outside where the lid meets the base. The sticker on the base of the tube reflects the pretty nude shade held within, and there's an expiry date and date of manufacture printed underneath the lipstick name. You may want to check the dates if you're able to, as it's better if you can buy it closer to the manufacture date, as it'll give you more time to use it. These lipsticks are good for two years from date of manufacture and most lipsticks need to be replaced after 1 to 2 years, although if their smell changes or they start to smell rancid, throw them away.
The formula of the lipstick is long-lasting and creamy, which feels very nourishing on my lips, and although I have read that many people find Karen Murrell's lipsticks to be drying, I didn't experience this. Cordovan Natural contains both Sweet Orange oil and Cinnamon Oil, so the lipstick does have an unusual scent of orange and cinnamon that tends to linger for a very long time. I can't say that I'm a fan of the smell, as I find it to be quite overpowering!
Would I purchase one of these lipsticks in future? No. As much as I love the colour of this beautiful nude shade, I really don't like the strong, lingering, overpowering scent that all of Karen Murrell's lipsticks seem to have. I tend to find that I start to feel quite ill from the smell after 20 minutes or so, and can't wait to wipe the lipstick off, just to get rid of the scent under my nose. Personally, I'd rather spend my money on a cheaper unscented drugstore brand, as I know there's no way I'm going to finish a whole lipstick bullet in two years, and I won't feel bad about replacing a cheaper brand when it's still half full.
