Palette perfection!

When the Anastasia Beverly hills palette was released every makeup artist/enthusiast needed to get their hands on one of these palettes, after months of it being released, surprising enough the hype was still there, I had been wanting one since it was advertised by was scared it was just an overhyped product. My birthday came and my husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday, so I told him I wanted the Anastasia Beverly hills contour palette, I managed to pick one up from Trademe for $85, and to tell you the truth when I first received it I thought it would be a much bigger palette!

The packaging is a lot sturdier than the Australis contour palette and the colours are removable from the palette, once you have used up the colours you can order more to fill your palette again which I thought is an awesome idea.

The contour palette colours are:

Vanilla- A light matte colour (Highlight) Banana- A light yellow matte colour (Highlight) Sand- A shimmery sandy beige colour (Highlight)

Java- Medium brown matte colour (Contour) Fawn- Ash brown matte colour (Contour) Havana- Warm brown matte colour (Contour)

I have a medium skin tone and this is perfect for my skin, all colours I use depending on what kind of look I am going for, The colours are easy to build up and look natural which is what I love. If you want a more intense look you just add more, the colours are pigmented and long lasting, my contour will last all day where as the Australis one wears off. These shades are easy to blend, and its next to impossible to get the "muddy look".

I am happy because Anastasia has also released a new range of colours for woman of colour. I will definitely purchase this again, it is an amazing palette that I have loved since I first used it.

Tips: I also use this contour palette for my eyes, contouring my eyes can give the illusion I don't have hooded eyes!

the contour kit that has it all!

I guess it was needed. The time had come where people needed a palette that did it all when it came to contouring. This palette in particular has 3 highlighting shades, a matte white, a matte yellow and a shimmery pale colour and 3 contour shades ranging in depth and warmth. I feel that this product is great as an all rounder palette maybe for a kit or something for someone who needs all the shades but for someone like me who can really only use 2 or 3 shades out of the palette, it was a bit of a waste. I mostly use the lightest and coolest contour shade and the matte highlight shades mixed together for my face. I find the consistency of the powders is a bit powdery. My undereyes actually end up looking slightly worse than if I wore nothing so you'll need to be light handed however, with that yellow shade, it does brighten that area considerably. The contour shade is still not perfect for me and I reach for my other ones over this BUT it's the only one in the palette remotely close. I feel that this palette has gotten a lot of hype that I really don't get. The shimmery colour lacks pigmentation and payoff. The other contour colours are really quite warm and too dark. I love that this as a one-stop-shop palette but I do think that there are separate items that do a better job.

Tips: Be light handed with the powders under the eyes! It can end up looking a little cakey!

Give me some cheek bones!

I love my ABH contour kit, I was lucky enough to actually be gifted mine. As much as I love it, I'm unsure if I would pay for it now that there are a lot of other new products out there that can give me the same affect. Being a lighter complexion I don't get use out of all of the shades, but I try and use them for other things like eye shadows etc. The banana powder is great for brightening under the eyes and I definitely love that just as much as I love the contour shade I am using.

Its a great size for travelling and is multi purpose as it also has a face powder and a highlight in it as well as a mirror, so this is great for carrying around!

The powders are easy to blend and I usually just build the color up as I need it.

Over all, I think its a great product, but make sure to shop around first :)

Tips: Use the colors that don't suit your skin tone as eye shadows/crease colors. Even the "highlighter" can look great on the lid :)

the difference between beauty and tragedy...

Well... I ATTEMPTED to use the Beverly Hills contour palette and failed miserably. It was the FIRST time I had ever attempted to contour, and got it all wrong wrong wrong. Unles you actually know what you're doing, and have the right brushes to apply, I suggest leaving it to someone who knows what they're doing

However, on the other hand, I had a friend also use it at the same time and her contouring was loterally perfect! Like, K Jenner PERFECT!

Definitely well worth the headache trying to get it right - although I'm not sure if I would purchase again as there are always cheaper alternatives

This one is a powder - but there are heaps of cream ones available, which will more than likely be my next go to - the youtube tutorials make it look so easy! Especially the new clown one!!

Is it a cream or powder? It's quite expensive aye? I gave up on contouring lol, I think one of my daughters took off with my bronzer.. I find powder just don't blend like a cream does. Awesome review :)

Favourite contour kit!

I love this product, however the only colour i can use is the grey tone shade in the middle, it is the only one i can get a true shadow look from. the others are just a bit warm toned for my fair skin. The highlighters are beautiful colours.

Tips: Do not apply too much at the start, build it up

A contour's dream

I think it's safe to say, that ABH consistently makes great quality products.

The contour palette has a beautiful colour range with a warm toned brown that's amazing for bronzing, a cool, grey toned brown that carves out the perfect contour and the final shade (don't have palette sitting with me so not quoting the names sorry!) that's in-between which would cater to a variation of skin tones.

With the light, highlighting shades that banana/yellow shade is an under eyes dream, it highlights the under eye so beautifully. The more neutral skin-coloured tone is also great and I used this for setting around my nose, chin and forehead.

My only downside of this palette was the highlight and I just felt it a little lack-luster, but I like a highlight that blinds so it's more of a natural sheen. However, ABH do deliver with their highlights just not so much in this palette.

The product is pigmented and so blend-able so it's incredibly easy to work with whether you are a novice or an expert.

This is worth the money beauties!

Great for learning to contour!

I was quite lucky and found this palette on sale while travelling overseas - so didn't have to go with the high price tag over here. It's the first cream contour palette I've tried (I've struggled learning to contour with powders) and find it so much easier to use.

The best thing about the different shades of contour is that it will be useful during summer and winter so no need to buy several products :) I've also had friends use it and it's so convenient having multiple shades available and seems to work well on a variety of skin tones.

The cream also feels surprisingly lighter than I thought it would and the palette has lasted me a long time so, even though the price is quite hefty, would still recommend!

Tips: Definitely start with less than you think you need to use and then, if it really isn't enough, build up.

Shades don't work for me :(

I love the banana shade in this palette. It's one of the best banana powders I've used and it looks great on my skin. The bottom row is unusable for me though, which is a shame because those shades were the reason I bought the palette.

I like the formula of them (apart from the bottom middle, which I found to work differently for some reason?) They are very pigmented, but are still quite easy to blend. You don't need to use a lot of product and they build up nicely. My problem with the left bottom and right bottom shades is the actual colour of them. They're both super warm and look almost red on my skin. I'm quite pale, but even when I use with fake tan I still find them unusable. Even used as bronzer, instead of contour, I find that they just look too warm and I hate how it looks. I've tried using a very light hand and still had the same results, it's just the colour of both those powders. The middle bottom would be the perfect contour shade for me, but I find it to be super patchy compared to the others. I can never get it to blend nicely and it always looks a bit muddy on my face, no matter how much product I use or what brush or how much I blend or how much I don't etc.

The other two powders in the top row don't really do a lot for me. I find that they blend into nothing and don't find them to be positive or negative, just kind of there.

I've really only kept this around for the banana shade and the hope that the other shades will work for me. They haven't yet and I do regret buying this palette - it was quite pricey and liking 1/6 of the powders isn't enough to justify that price for me.

Love the convenience!

For reference I'm in MAC NC42-44 with oily skin and I've been using this palette for almost a year. I really enjoy it because it doesn't take up too much space in my makeup bag, it's slim and lightweight (palette is made out of cardboard) and it takes the guessing game out of "which shade should I take with me today"?

Highlight = Vanilla, Banana and Sand Contour = Java, Fawn and Havana

I use all of the contour shades and only Sand from the highlight. The powders blend beautifully and are quite pigmented especially Havana! I start my contour with Fawn, it has a greyish undertone which alone looks a bit off on my skintone but I use Java to warm it up and then Havana for definition. Sand is the only highlight powder I can pull off but if I'm not careful it can look frosty on me. The powders last about 4-5 hours before they begin to fade.

I was hoping to use Vanilla and Banana under my eyes but they're too light for me and no matter how much I blend, buff or soften the powders I still look ASHY. I use the 2 to help mattify my lipsticks (over tissue) instead. On me the Banana powder looks the same as Ben Nye's Banana powder just a tad brighter where Ben Nye's slightly more dull/flat.

The palette is designed so you can remove the pans and replace with different shades from the brand - the magnetic board is no joke!

I'm quite happy with this kit, once I've hit pan I can customise it to include highlights that work for my skin tone - highly recommend to others.

Contour Kit

I am a sucker for palettes, whether they're eyeshadow, blush, highlighters or in this case contour powders. The convenience of having many colours just makes me feel like I will be ready for anything. This contour palette didn't disappoint. I am someone who gets very pale in winter and super tan in summer so I feel this palette can cover all my bases.

What I've found is I adore the lighter shades. The Banana shade is fantastic at setting and brightening my eye area, but I do prefer it when I'm more tan so the light matte pink shade is good for this purpose in winter. The shimmer highlight shade is very subtle but pretty. It is a little powdery though, while the others have a more creamy feel.

The contour shades are very pigmented and blend beautifully. The darkest I haven't used as its a little too dark and warm for me.

I like how I can remove the pans and replace individually as they sell the pans on their site. The packaging is simple. On first impression I thought it a little tacky being like a cardboard case but it has a secure magnetic closure. It does get finger prints on the packaging though but overall I do like it. I was surprised at the size of the pans, I imagined them to be bigger. They are 3g each.
