Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

I purchased this as part of a ‘buy one, get one half price’ promo. I was also drawn to the wording on the product packaging, such as ‘Dream Velvet’, which lead me to believe it’d be quite light in texture and super easy to apply. I think it’s been cleverly marketed, with words like ‘velvety’, ‘gel-whipped’, ‘hydrating’, ‘dream’, ‘smooth’ and ‘soft’. The only words that are missing, in my opinion, are ‘cloud’ and ‘pillow’... Unfortunately for me, it doesn’t really live up to its own hype.

Straight away, I found it more of a cakey-matte to apply rather than a ‘soft’-matte (which it claims to be). Then, when I began blending it in using my trusty blending sponge, I was horrified to see that it actually kind of accentuated my pores (yuck!), especially on my chin! How a foundation can achieve that is beyond me, but ‘velvety smooth’ is not the words I’d use...

So, no, I wouldn’t recommend it to others based on my own experience with this product. You really have to go to town blending it in (more than usual) before it appears smoother and less cakey. I feel like I don’t need to spend as much time on blending with other foundations...

The only reason I’m going to give it two kisses instead of one is that once you’ve blended the bejeezus out of it, it does do its job, and provide you with adequate coverage for the day. Whether it’s hydrating (another of its claims) or not, I’m not so sure. It doesn’t dehydrate the skin, put it that way, but I’ve definitely tried more hydrating, smoother and lighter foundation formulas in the past. Two kisses.

Packaging is simple and elegant. I like the fact it's small so able to fit in a purse, and it's not made of glass (with a toddler it's good that if it's dropped it won't break). Not being in a pump bottle I liked the fact that I have more control on how much I use. I would recommend using this at night. The texture is pleasing, like whipped cream and applies even to the skin. I found it had a more pink undertone (warm) tone for an Ivory, compared to other which has a blue undertone. It dries fast, so blending quickly is the key. Personally I found using fingers to blend being most effective. Really don't need to use a lot, although it's more of a medium to light coverage as I still needed concealer to hide blemishes. Stayed on all night without any need to touch up. Matte finish. All in all, lovely product, good value for money- but won't be wearing during the day/in natural light.

This foundation was on sale so I decided to test it out and highly regret not buying more. I wasn't expecting too much to be honest, but tried it out and it's been amazing!

The texture is so soft and smooth and doesn't feel caked on at all. It seems to be medium coverage so works very well for an every-day look. I generally apply it with a beauty blender but have, on lazier days, used my fingers and it blends well.

Very, very happy with the product for the sale price - would probably consider paying full price as well.

I absolutely love this! It applies like butter and it feels super soft and like mousse! For the price its fantastic for my combination skin majority of the time. It covers any blemishes or redness easily and theres no need to use a lot of product at all. It does dry quite fast so you do need to be quick with your application.

I was looking for a nice foundation to wear on nights out so picked this up as it sounded great for dry skin. I like the packaging, a squeezy tube with a screw top lid.

The product is super thick and moussey. It applies like a dream to my skin, feels like butter which is really nice, coverage is pretty great, covers my redness well, I have the shade ivory and it definitely runs a little dark but that is the lightest they had.

After applying I looked up close and it looked awful, clung to my dry spots and any little hairs. It was super cakey even though I prepped my skin well and only used a small amount of product.

Highly disappointed with this, I tried applying several ways and it looked cakey each time. Would not recommend for dry skin.

The texture is very thick, making it difficult to get the product to blend across face. The lightest colour was too dark for me and this was difficult to remedy based on the stiffness of the product. Perhaps this would be better applied with a wet sponge or mixed with primer or moisturiser.

I saw this at my local pharmacy for 50% so I only paid $10 for it. Unfortunately I should of grabbed another one because I love this foundation. It's silky, lightweight, velvet mousse formula makes it feel like you're not wearing anything and it lasts all day which I love! It can be applied with your fingers which is good for when you're in a hurry and don't have time for blenders or brushes. I absolutely love this foundation!

For me this foundation has a medium-full coverage. You have to blend fast because it dries quickly, even with a moisturizer underneath. I apply it with my fingers, it actually does feel velvety, kind of like the Maybelline dream moose. It has a Matte finish but at the moment I prefer a dewy look, so I don't think I will purchase it again unless I want to go for a matte look.
