Worth the Splurge! Makeup That's Worth the Cash Splash!

If you'd told me five years ago that I would happily slap down over $60 for a bronzer or foundation I would've laughed, long and heartily. It seemed ridiculous to me that you'd spend that sort of money on something that was whacked on at the start of the day then washed off at the end.

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Wardrobe palette changed all that. The setting powder made my skin look like an angel had breathed youthful fairy dust all over it. The bronzer looked so natural. The highlighter didn't emphasise fine lines or texture. I was sold. Then I was sold on NARS Sheer Glow as, once again, it applied heavenly to the skin and didn't emphasise the areas I was trying to hide. These days? If it makes my makeup application faster, easier and makes my skin/eyes/lips look great, I'm all in no matter what the cost.

I'm not the only person who sees the value in high end makeup either. Members of our gorgeous community do too. So what's worth paying the pingers for? Check out these makeup must-haves*:

Primer

Preps skin for perfect make-up application and hours of luminous wear.

They say:  The Eye of Horus Liquid Define Eye Liner is an amazingly easy to use liquid "texta" that draws a gorgeous black line on your lid, allowing for perfect definition. The pen-like tip gives you complete control to draw on your line as thin or as thick as you like.

You say:  This is amazing, I managed to create awesome flicks and make my eyes look incredible. It's easy to use and it doesn't run, even when i work out at the gym. I would definitely purchase this product again.  BR Member - harksgal

Mascara

Clinique High Impact Mascara - RRP $46

You say:  I'm a long term MAC user and this lipstick never disappoints! The pigment is strong and I find that it doesn't fade through the day as much as cheaper lipsticks do. The smell is amazing for an extra bonus!  BR Member - NicoleKate

I have splurged on YSL lippies and love them! Also Have Nars Laguna (the old one) Nars blush in.orgasm and Mac loose powder (now discontinued. Also loved studio fix fluid when my skin was oily and acne prone) Some worked better for my oily skin. I went on roaccutane and my skin changed to more dry so i've now had test different products again to the past few years to see what works.

I have splurged on MAC lipsticks and have never been dissapointed.

That foundation has been on my dream list forever now. Hopefully when I fly to the gold coast I can find a deal . Two weeks counting down .

I'm so happy to see my review made it to one the BR articles. I currently have five of these in my collection and have tried two more of them. I would say the Nars Hightlighters, Charlotte Tilbury Blushes, Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow, Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation and my most recent discovery Kat Von D Lash Liner Inner Liquid Liner. That stuff is amazing for darkening your lash line and staying put. Like this is more concentrated pigment the blackest black for the lash line. I'm never going to color in my lash line with a felt tip liner, this is my new staple!

Aww... a nice range of products here. I love bb creams. They work better for my dry face in comparison to a lot of foundations i have tried. Wished the Smashbox bb cream had more spf in it though =). The eye palette also looks amazingly attractive... only if i can use eye shadows properly hahahahaha =D

I LOVE Clarins, I've recently gone back to using it in my skincare and will probably use more of it as my skin is feeling amazing. Estee Lauder Double wear is my go to for evening makeup - love it! Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat I love as well but it's a splurge product for me and I haven't used it for a year or so as it's a bit pricey to lighten up the eyes - but it was my go to when I had my babies to make me look less zombie lightening up the dark circles and tired eyes!

29th April, 2019

I'm not a high end gal, mostly because a lot of them are not cruelty free. I did have the Estee Lauder foundation for my wedding make up and it was flawless and the photos were great. I still won't purchase it though.

28th April, 2019

I have to say a big YES to all these products except the YSL Touché Eclat. I really doesn’t actually do much on me

28th April, 2019

I have theBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer, it's amazing and love it!

28th April, 2019

I’ve tried a few of these, I’m definitely accumulating more and more high end products.

28th April, 2019

I love the Eye of Horus Goddess mascara. I got it in the vault and OMG it is brilliant!

28th April, 2019

My favourite high end beauty product is the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder. It’s only recently come to NZ and I was at Mecca’s door waiting for them to open on the day of its release. It is worth every dollar as it extends the Wear time of my makeup and keeps my oils from taking over my face.

28th April, 2019

Oooooh they are fabulous products alright..especially Estee Lauder double wear make-up...

28th April, 2019

I have only tried the mascara featured in this article. I would love to try that famous Estée Lauder foundation, the balm and ambient light powder

28th April, 2019

I guess for setting spray I find that the Mac Fix+ works slightly better on my skin than the UD All Nighter Setting Spray. The Fix+ in 100ml is $45 so it's slightly cheaper too. :)

The Urban Decay palette is gorgeous too!

And it goes beautifully with the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation. They’re a match made in makeup heaven.

I guess whether or not a product works amazing on you also depends on your skin type. I have dry skin, so the Estee lauder foundation didn’t quite work on my face, but looked amazingly flawless on my friend who had oily skin.
